This book (5th editon) is well organized and provides a comprehensive treatment of classical control systems topics. It's been a great reference and review for someone who has only dealt with the subject matter only occasionally. The layout, examples, and especially Matlab solutions are very helpful. The only disappointment is the somewhat brief section on Nichols chart methods. Also, some appendices that were part of the printed book in previous editions are now only available as a download from the publisher.

Warning to all college students, problems in ISV version is not the same as USA edition.

I wasn't told of this when I purchase this book, and the problem I done was around %50 different than USA edition but hey it is cheaper.

Hope this is helpful to some of you.

This textbook is an extremely comfortable read. It covers a lot of material, including fundamentals of state space and digital control; however, its clarity and excellent writing ensures that the reader is never sidetracked trying to resolve what's being conveyed. The introductory chapter alone reveals the quality of this text. The organization, including the two comprehensive case studies, is perfect throughout the book. The prerequiste is nothing more than a full course on electric circuits (ideally). This book is probably my favourite among my fivty plus engineering textbooks.

This textbook is an extremely comfortable read. It covers a lot of material, including fundamentals of state space and digital control; still, the clear and succinct writing guarantees that the reader is never sidetracked trying to interpret meaning. The author is both an excellent writer and a highly knowledgable engineer -- exactly the mix I look for in any textbook.

The introductory chapter alone reveals the quality of this text (compare it for instance to Franklin et.al. or Dorf/Bishop). The organization, including the two progressive case studies, is perfect throughout the book. The prerequiste is nothing more than a full course on electric circuits (ideally). I have taken a course in complex analysis, which I would say shed no extra light on the material of this book. It is my favourite among my fifty plus engineering textbooks.

As a student in control systems engineering, I found this text to be very valuable (I had the 3rd Edition then). As an engineer, I found it to be my everyday reference. A few years back, I jumped ship from the engineering field and have obtained a PhD in another field of science and to my surprise, I still reference this text today. Great Text!! Dorf and Bishop is not bad but Nise takes first place.
