"Does not work with Windows 7 64-bit"

I have 4 of these drives that were working happily with Vista-64 (I saw another user that stated that these drives were not supported for 64-bit but I never had a compatibility problem). I changed my OS to Windows 7 64-bit and now I can only connect 1 drive at a time (more than 1 causes the system to freeze up when writing data to/from the disk). WD is ignoring the issue as is MSFT so I would be very careful and do your research before selecting this drive with Windows 7!

good price for around [...] USD (2009/10); all strong reviews at above sites; mirroring (RAID 1 setting; set with the install program [easy]) is a nice feature and this easy set up makes it very easy for regular people to use; don't have to worry about your backup drive not being backed-up!
I bought this instead of an apple time capsule, which apparently has issues with longevity (see forums), and i didn't see that complaint for this product.
"Great drive, very quiet!"

I've had the 2TB Mirror Edition for about a year now and it's been great. I have it shared on an XP Media Center Edition desktop and I have two laptops that backup to it over the WiFi. I'm using it in a RAID 1 config. At first I had a problem with it being consistently recognized because it was connected to a third party USB add-on card in the PC. Once I moved it to a built-in USB port, it's worked fine ever since - no complaints. I'm very happy and love the peace of mind that I have two backup copies of all my data.
We use the Western Digital My Book 2TB Mirror Edition USB drive configured in RAID 1 (mirroring), which essentially gives us a 1TB drive that is automatically backed up. We recently had an un-backed up hard drive fail and looked into getting some of our critical files recovered from the device, however the recovery company wanted more than we were willing to spend. That experience was a painful lesson ("an ounce of prevention...") for us and I started to look for a solution that would reduce the risk of a reoccurrence. After a little research, and taking my limited budget into consideration, this drive seemed to be a good choice.
I have the drive connected to the USB port of my Netgear Rangemax WNDR3700 Dual Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router (Black), which makes it a shared network drive that is accessible from all of my PCs. This means that I did not use the backup software that was included with the drive, so I can't review that aspect.
The drive has worked exactly as expected and the performance speed has been perfectly acceptable.
This is a good value for a large RAID drive that gives me a little piece of mind, Recommended!
After 1 week, my computer froze while trying to access the drive--- all disk-using applications (TextEdit, Terminal) froze.
The only way to interact with programs on my computer was to unplug the drive.
This immediately recovered my running programs, but gave the "Improper Device Removal".
Upon reconnecting the drive, the Finder and Disk Utility showed that disk space was used, but none of my files were visible.
This drive will lose all your data. Do not trust the flaky RAID controller.
Even before the drive ate my data, the "green" features made the drive go to sleep frequently, meaning I had to wait 15 seconds for the drive to wake up every time I had to access a file.

The unit works great, but I had to buy a new cable. The one in the box was bad. Overall pretty good unit
