"Your brain as a new parent"

OK, I know this seems like an idiot gift, but if you're a new parent it's hard to remember ANYTHING with the lack of sleep going on. This thing pretty much ruled our lives the first few months. It really helps you keep your baby on a regular schedule (good for babe and you)and helps you figure out what's wrong if the baby's upset since you can just check the time to see when he last ate, slept, or was changed. And if you're nursing, good luck trying to remember which side you started nursing with last (i never could) so this was GREAT.
The only reason I gave it 4/5 stars is because it would be awesome if they made a feature to track the times that you could hookup to your computer to look at trends, etc... then again, who has time to track trends with a newborn!
"Great for the First time mom."

I wish I had this with my first born. With him I was writing everything down and I had a horrible time trying to keep track of last feedings and when I took my meds last. This time with my daughter it just seems like I have every thing under control and I am not needing to remember times. I did use it a lot more to time my contractions vrs. time baby's needs. It is a wonderful and awesome idea for someone who needs to keep track of the baby's needs, so if you are in the market for that then this is the product for you. I just think that as a second time mom I am finding it easier to meet my baby's needs with out a timer.
"A necessity for our twins!"

We have 5 month old twins and this gadget has been WONDERFUL! We have used it from the day we brought our boys home from the NICU. As new parents we didn't really know what to expect with newborns, much less twin newborns. But we quickly found out everything is a blur, including when we last fed the babies. Note that we did NOT get two of these even though we have 2 babies. That really is not necessary. Initially we always fed the babies at the same time, and we would always change their diapers then too. So it was very easy to use the same timer to track both babies for bottles and diapers. But nowadays we find that we don't always need to change a diaper when they get a bottle (which is about every 2.5 to 3 hours). Also, sometimes I'll feed one baby and wait 20-30 minutes before feeding the other baby (helps with logistics). So what we've done is "repurpose" some of the buttons. Now we use the first two buttons to track when baby #1 and baby #2 last ate. The last two buttons are now used to track when baby #1 and baby #2 went down for a nap (or conversely when they woke up from a nap). This works great for us! Now if a baby starts crying uncontrollaby we can look at the Itzbeen and determine if its because they are hungry and need to prepare a bottle, of if it may be due to another reason. We were surprised that babies don't always make it 3 hours but can sometimes get ravenous in only 2 hours or so (darn growth spurts keep ya guessing)! This timer is also great because my mom watches our babies during the day while we work, and we can "trade shifts" with minimal updates. When she comes over and starts her shift we don't have to write down when baby #1 and #2 last ate, we just toss her the Itzbeen and she is ready to babysit! We highly recommend the Itzbeen, especially if you are a new parent or parent to twins (or both!).

this thing is awesome. when you have a newborn in the house and you only get 4hrs of sleep a night, it makes it so much easier to figure out what's bugging your new charge. plus with the backlight and that intense led it has it doubles as a flashlight at night (albeit not a very bright one). a must have for first time parents.
"Great product, but BAD display and time increments..."

While the Itzbeen does everything it says it does, there are a few things that I would have liked to have been done better. My biggest problem is that you can only read the display head-on. At an angle, all of the numbers look like the number 8. So if I want to check the time, I can't just glance at it and see most of the time. It's very annoying. Even using the backlight doesn't solve this problem. The second annoyance is that while you can set a timer to go off after a certain amount of time (for instance, if you need to feed every 3 hours it will flash and beep once your timer reaches 3 hours), you can only set it for increments of 30 minutes, and the minimum time is one hour. Also, you can lock it so that no buttons get pressed accidentally and reset a timing, but you can't lock the lights, which will deplete batteries faster.
Yes, there are other other functions that would make this a better timer, but first, I think that a few of the bugs with the existing timer need to be resolved. I use it daily, but it's still just OK because of the little annoying quirks...

My daughter is 3 months and I am still using it every single feeding! keeps me on track how long she was nursing for, so I know how soon she'll get hungry again. As well as from one look I know how many hours since last time she ate. This is really helpful especially at night!! And that light works great - it's not too bright and it doesn't wake up the baby even when I put it right by her face. Nr 1 thing to have with your first one!!
