Here is what people are saying about the Sling Media Slingbox PRO-HD Streaming Device
"Sling kicks butt!" | 2009-11-16 |

| I bought the Slingbox HD-Pro about a month ago and love it. It came in a well protected box with everything in it as advertised. I had to go out and buy a few extra cables for it to make it work. No biggie. Just a quick drive down to radio shack and I was able to get what I wanted for 15 bucks. Slingbox can't really carry everything in the box for everyone's different audio/video setups so I wasn't annoyed by having to purchase an extra cable. It took me about an hour to get the right setup for my box to work. The instructions are just okay. I'm pretty good at setting stuff up but still had to read carefully and figure out what I had and what I wanted to use for my box/cable/tv setup. Anyhow - I finished the setup and fired up my laptop. Go to the website and download what you need to make it work. Voila! It worked on the first try and I haven't had any hiccups. There was another update to the software that I downloaded and still no hiccups. It works like a champ. I even have the Slingplayer Mobile on my Ipod Touch. That works just as well if not better. No problems with that either. I only have good things to say about the Sling. I thought about other devices that advertise the same service but I gave Slingbox a try after hearing my friends say good things about it. If you want it - go for the Sling. I love mine and so far, so good. I have Verizon Fios at home and use primarily hotel wi-fi on the road. It sometimes stutters when buffering but it usually settles down without any problems. Sling is King in my book. Good luck all.......... |

"Works exactly as advertised" | 2009-11-11 |

I gave this box 5 stars because it does exactly what it says it does. I was able to research through the Slingbox website and Amazon which model I should go with to fit my situation and so there was not a second of disappointment when it actually arrived.
That's not to say its perfect. There are drawbacks, but overall, the Slingbox Pro does exactly what it says it does - transmit cable/broadcast signals to a remote computer anywhere else in the world.
Basically we bought this for the purpose of watching some American TV (namely American Football) overseas where we're stationed. We would have preferred a cheaper model, but this is the only one that took the signal straight from the wall - which allowed my brother-in-law (BIL) to plug this directly in his spare bedroom.
My very benevolent BIL offered to set the entire thing up on his end, and he said the process was a piece of cake. I will admit that he's a pretty good computer techy guy, so I can't really comment on the ease of set-up.
From my end - things couldn't be easier. There is some signal degradation when I play it on the 42" flat panel, but when playing back on the laptop the signal is actually quite sharp.
My BIL's internet connection was a factor. We actually had to upgrade the upload speed on his connection in order for my signal to improve. Before when they would so much as check the mail while the sligbox was on, the signal on my end was terrible. After they kicked up their upload speed, this made things much better. Now their upload speed shows to be 790kbs where before it was roughly 350kbs. 350KBS was not nearly enough to show a smooth picture on my end - regardless of what the slingplayer documentation says.
I like the sling player software and I think it functions well. The slingbar-right option is nice as the rest of my windows re-size on the laptop.
Other thoughts:
-I have no problem with using Slingplayer wirelessly, even though it's not suggested.
-The pause TV button is great.
-I am regularly using the slingplayer 7 time zones away from the Slingbox. This might explain the extra upload speed needed on the other end.
-The program guide is great - we love it.
-When my BIL replaced his router, the Slingbox did not like that. It has to be completely reprogrammed. This is to be expected I guess, but it did cause me a couple of days outage.
Overall, this does exactly what we want it to do. Paying the $260+ for this box seemed a bit pricey, but we have not been disappointed because we've been able to accomplish exactly what I wanted to do.

| This may be the easiest way to get your Satellite/Cable on the go. The quality is a function of the speed of your internet connections. With 3mb DSL, I am gettig a very good HD away from home and on my laptops at home. The cellphone application works great too. When connection speeds slow, it will optimize to cut the quality to the best supported by your speed. The only problem was the slingbox application would not load on one of my older laptops. |

"better for PC than Mac" | 2009-11-08 |

| Don't expect much from this product if you have a Mac. The Slingbox does not have the capability to work from Slingmedia website with Mac computers. It works fairly well in your home if you just want to use it somewhere on your own home modem, but not as good when you are in hotels, out of the country with wifi that is not very strong. |

"Horrible, Horrible experience" | 2009-11-07 |

I've owned the Slingbox Classic and the Slingbox ProHD. Since buying the PRO-HD, I've never been able to get it online. However, with other pressing things going on, I didn't think about it much. Tonight, I tried to finally get it up and running, only to find out that the network part of it is shot. The box won't respond to a reset, or anything. So, I call SlingMedia and try to find out what I can do. Product has never worked as advertised, now doesn't work at all..... My options are two. Buy a refurb for $99 or take a 20% discount on a new one.
My choice?? Nothing at all. They are thieves and their product is horrible and has been getting worse. To add insult to injury, I've helped them beta test software since they first started. I cannot recommend this piece of garbage to anyone. |

"Great product!!" | 2009-11-03 |

I have installed this product for less than 3 days now and so far am loving it. I am primarily using this to watch my favourite programs on the road. It was very easy to set up and is very easy to use to view programs. You can pause the live program for up to 30 minutes and continue viewing after that. I use a USB modem to connect and view the programs on the web and the streaming is pretty good. I can watch full screen without losing the picture quality on my laptop and not much interruption with the streaming either. The only thing I have noticed is the slight lag in switching from one channel to another. That could be an issue with my network. Additionally I have noticed that every time I switch channels it takes a few minutes to stream smoothly. The first few minutes both video and audio are a little choppy. If I figure out it is an issue with the product I will update my review but until then....
I feel the product could be enhanced with a built in DVR to schedule recording etc and view at your convenience. I believe there is a way to do it with your external DVR but it would be much more easy for viewers to control the recording and viewing on their end if it was a kind of all in one box. |
