"The last reason to own a floor-standing PC has just left the room" | 2009-11-21 |

Until recently there were still reasons to own a general-purpose PC in floor-standing rather than laptop configuration: You could swap video cards to enhance canvas size and image quality; you could have quick access to a LAN; you could install extra fans to keep the whole thing from going postal; you could have room on your desk for a photo of Mom.
There were plenty more reasons "power users" remained loyal to the mainframe paradigm. Without even acknowledging the Freudian "size" discrepancy, pre-Y2K laptops demanded every sort of compromise on the user's part. They were slow, they had lousy keyboards and screens, and they were not even very portable. In the old days, a systems operator worth his Fortran wouldn't trade his hornrims on an original Compaq.
But now, to coin a metaphor, the shoe is on the other foot. Today's laptops sport duo-core processors and multi-gig RAM-paks that make short work of everyday office computing. And if you want an auxiliary display that's as big as the one that came with your 10-year-old's gaming system, you can have that, too. Virtually all laptops have external-display ports. If you choose wisely, your second display can perform as well as your laptop without exceeding its cost.
I remember the days when, to get anywhere near the image size, resolution, and quality this Acer provides, I'd have to add an additional zero to the price tag. That's no exaggeration, folks! Those of us old enough to remember, think back to CAD workstations and Sony 21" CRTs.
After six years of abuse, my Toshiba M15 laptop has consistently refused to break down, and it wasn't until Windows 7 came along that I had an excuse to replace it. (Windows 7 wants more RAM than the old laptops could deliver.) Though my new Toshiba P500 comes with a brilliant 18.4" display, my dub-sized V223 makes the Toshi's screen seem almost inadequate.

Since computer displays are the user's eyes in the virtual world, there can almost be no such thing as too many of them, or too much. The tradition of one display per computer is nothing more than tradition. So is the notion that a "serious" PC must weigh 20 lb. and sit on the floor.
It's time to, as Apple used to say, think different. A good starting point would be an Acer V223. Or two. |

| Excellent quality and very good value for the price. No reason to buy a newer pricier model. The plastic base on which it mounts is a bit cheesy but doesn't really matter for long run functioning. I'd recommend it. |

I am really pleased with the Acer V223-WBD 22inch monitor. I always buy Samsung, but recently had a Samsung monitor I purchased a year ago go down. I was very frustrated about it because of the price and my experience with Samsung had always been positive before. It was a real let down.
So, started looking at Samsung and a few other more expensive brands on Amazon. I liked the products but not the price. Our office IT guy recommended Acer and said the quality for the price was excellent. Read the reviews on this model and found them to be spot on.
It's easy to set up. Picture quality and resolution are excellent. Overall, a good product and honestly probably better than the Samsung I purchased a year ago which is in the trash.
Not a lot of bells or whistles but I would recommend it to anyone. Good luck! |

Setup for this monitor was easy. Just plug in and play. This is my first time owning a 22" monitor so I was overwhelmed with being able to see so much (used to own a 17"). I'm currently running it at 1680x1050, and I like it.
Sadly, this monitor isn't 1080p. I could have gotten a 23" or bigger monitor with 1080p and HDMI inputs for $10 more. Also, there's one dead pixel (red dot) on the top near the left side of the monitor. It's not noticeable unless you're trying to look for it, but it's there... |

"Good LCD Monitor & Great Customer Service" | 2009-11-03 |

This review is for my 3rd Acer V223 22" monitor.
The first two are used for my desktop system as side-by-side monitors, giving me 42" of monitor viewing area. I am a photographer and use my system extensively for post production work using Photoshop, Illustrator, and other graphics software. These monitors are clear, crisp and display colors reasonably accurate. What I see displayed on the screens is pretty close to what I get from my HP 7960 color printer and what I get back from the photo labs that do my additional printing. The only drawback to these monitors is that they are bright. This took a short time to get use to and do not present any real problems when I keep a low light lamp illuminating my work room. I keep the settings at the default level and both monitors were almost identical in quality and light output.
As for my 3rd Acer V223, it is virtually idential in all respects with the first two monitors. This monitor is set up with a separate computer that I use as a network server. In order to reduce the power/ram drain my desktop system I use the server to power all my peripherals such as printers, scanners and Wacom tablet. The original monitor for this server was a CRT unit that was old and ran hot so I purchased this monitor as a replacement. It takes up less room and runs much cooler than the CRT thus reducing the heat in my work room.
The problem with the third monitor was that it arrived DOA. I had set the monitor up that day(Friday)in the evening so I had to email Amazon.com late in the day. The Customer Service was excellent. After I sent an email notice of the DOA monitor I received a reply email within 1/2 hour. I was provided a telephone number to call for a RMA. When I called the number the representative was polite and advise me that a replacement would be sent out on Monday (since it was the weekend)and it would take three days to arrive. When I explained that I needed the monitor for my business and I needed it ASAP. After two emails, back and forth, I was advised that it would be shipped on Monday as Express One Day shipping. The moniotor arrived as promised and the replacement was installed and worked fine. A return postage label was included in the replacement shipment so returning the item was simple and free. I am very impressed with Amazon.com's customer service. |
