AT&T Service
This AT&T phone can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T's 3G mobile broadband data network, which is available in most major metropolitan areas. The AT&T 3G network uses the dual-band UMTS 850/1900 MHz network, and this phone is also compatible with 2100 MHz 3G networks (found in international territories). The AT&T 3G network provides download speeds ranging from 700 Kbps to 1.7 Mbps, and upload speeds ranging from 500 Kbps to 1.2 Mbps. This makes it possible to enjoy a variety of feature-rich wireless multimedia services, and it gives you the advantage of offering simultaneous voice and data services. (For use outside the United States, an AT&T international data plan is recommended.)

In areas where the 3G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the AT&T EDGE network, which offers availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. Providing average data speeds between 75-135Kbps, it's fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services, including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go. You'll also enjoy quad-band GSM connectivity, which allows you to make calls in more than 190 countries and access data applications in the more than 135 countries where AT&T offers international data roaming.

You can take advantage of the AT&T Navigator GPS software and service, a full-featured premium navigation application that includes audible turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates and re-routing options, and 3D moving maps (additional charges applicable). AT&T Navigator offers several other features to make your commute more enjoyable and reliable, including mobile access to Yellowpages.com. Additionally, AT&T Navigator is the only mobile phone-based GPS service that provides integrated speech recognition for address entry and points of interest search.

The tri-band 3G Blackberry Bold also offers integrated Wi-Fi networking and GPS for turn-by-turn directions as well as a 2-megapixel camera/camcorder. With 3G connectivity, you'll be able to access AT&T's Cellular Video (CV) service and the Internet while on the go. Cellular Video features content from CNN, The Weather Channel, iFilm, Comedy Central and exclusive premium content from HBO and much more. And you get access to AT&T Mobile Music, which enables you to buy tracks while on the, access the Napster and eMusic subscription music services, stream music video, discover what's playing with Music ID song-recognition software, and find out what's hot with The Buzz music news portal. (A MEdia Max subscription bundle is recommended for accessing AT&T's Internet, video, and music services.)

The phone has a built-in web browser for MEdia Net downloads and mobile web browsing. AT&T's MEdia Net service enables you to receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more.

The BlackBerry Bold smartphone's support for tri-band HSDPA and enterprise-grade Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g) networks and its next-generation 624 MHz mobile processor make short work of downloading email attachments, streaming video or rendering web pages. The BlackBerry Bold also includes 128 MB Flash memory plus 1 GB on-board storage memory, as well as a microSD/SDHC memory card slot that is conveniently accessible from a side door.

The Blackberry Bold delivers the legendary BlackBerry email experience. With BlackBerry service plans from AT&T, you can receive emails instantaneously from up to 10 email accounts (personal and enterprise). Support is also built-in for viewing email attachments (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, WordPerfect, and PDF formats).

Make meeting requests, invite new attendees and more, all on your Blackberry Bold. Users without BlackBerry Enterprise Server support can manually sync with their desktop calendars and contacts via Bluetooth or USB using the included BlackBerry Desktop Software.

You'll enjoy enhanced Internet browsing on the Blackberry Bold. The trackball mimics a mouse, making it easy to navigate sites in Page View or Column View or to zoom in on specific parts of a web page, while various emulation settings allow you to choose between the full desktop-style HTML content and layout or the mobile version. Attachments can also now be downloaded from within the browser and there is support for watching streaming videos (RTSP, real-time streaming protocol).

The included BlackBerry Desktop Manager software comes with Roxio Media Manager for BlackBerry, which includes new features that make it easier to organize multimedia content as well as manage music, videos and recorded Voice Notes between a computer and the smartphone. It also optimizes video files for smooth full-screen playback on the BlackBerry Bold smartphone's large display with support for full-screen and widescreen formats.

Roxio Photosuite 9 LE is also included, allowing you to easily enhance pictures and create photo albums on your computer. In addition, the new BlackBerry Media Sync application allows you to sync your iTunes digital musical collections . I finally took the plunge and entered the world of Blackberry about a month ago when I purchased the Blackberry Bold. My life will never the same. The Bold has all the features that I will ever need including a great video application so I can take my grandson's images with me. Phone is very clear. I would recommend the Bold for anyone looking for a top notch Blackberry. I am sure that there are many other applications that I have yet to discover.

I love the functionality of the bold. Upgraded from a RAZR which was not 3g. The Tethering is a huge plus. I use a Twitter app that works really well except for battery drain issues that will be corrected in the next upgrade. The main gripe I have is tha CALL QUALITY! I get a lots off cutouts and drops. Very hard to talk while moving in a vehicle. If sitting still it seems much better. I will keep the device but I have let RIM know that I am dissatisied with call qaulity. I hope they address this in future models. Data transfer works well as does the built in GPS. iPhone does not offer tethering so is not an option for me. Try it for a week or two. I think you will like it. Big screen is nice and overall size is not really as big an issue as some let on.

This is my very First review on amazon.com. It's because I like this phone. I have AT&T. Here's why:
-You can customize almost anything
-It's very loud
-you can set any full MP3 as a ringtone, email alert, or text alert
-supports 32gb mirco sd cards
-Check your email, texts, and browse the web while talking on the phone. NO iphone can do that!
-I am a DJ and the sound quality and volume output is unmatched. Much better than any ipod or sansa fuze.
-Full stereo sound out the back.
-Free Wi-Fi where ever you can get it.
-Tethered to my laptop as a modem without monthly charges.
-The 3G is pretty fast
-Fast software, I guess the O.S. is pretty good
-I downloaded a bunch of free apps and they work great
-The screen and video quality is awesome.
-View, edit, email, word docs, excel docs, ppt docs, and soon pdf docs.
-sniffs out wi-fi great!
-listen to music while surfing, emailing, or texting.

What I dont like about it:
-It seems like sometimes I have to press my trackball twice. Maybe I'm just not pressing hard enough
-the speakers do sound distorted on some videos that i have converted.
-Wish phone had more memory than about 1 gb.
-Some mp4 videos lag in play(too big??) Maybe its my class 2 micro sd card. I will try a class 6 and see how it does.

Overall, love the phone. I was going to get a new phone and the ipod touch. Nope! This phone will do anything an apple will do and more, with the exception of the accelorometer. I dont need that. Thanks.

I chose the Blackberry Bold 9000 as an upgrade from the original Samsung BlackJack. I had the Samsung for nearly 3 years and was ready for something new. The Bold was exactly what I was looking for.
The first thing I noticed when I picked it up was that it was significantly wider than my BlackJack, a little heavier as well. At first that did bother me a little, but I actually prefer it now that I've used it for a while. It fits perfectly and comfortably in my hand.
The 2nd thing I noticed was the screen. It was much larger, and amazingly clear. I watch full length HD TV shows and Movies on it 1-2 times a week. This screen looks better than a lot of full size computer monitors I've used.
3rd, the sound. I could not believe how much better it sounded than my samsung blackjack. When I'm watching tv on it on speakerphone, I've literally had people walk in the room and think that the sound was coming from television.
The interface is great. It was an adjustment to go from Windows Mobile 6 to the Blackberry OS but it is very user friendly, logical and intuitive. I had it mastered in just about 10 minutes.
I was deciding between this and the iPhone and I'm VERY glad I went with the BlackBerry Bold 9000. I used an iPhone for 2 weeks then switched to the Blackberry and it was the best phone choice I've ever made.

Overall the Bold is great BUT! Since I don't have data plan I can't get wifi to work. I also can't get media sync to work.
Battery life is not bad, but definitely not good. I have to charge it every night.
Camera and video are just slightly better than my HTC Fuze.
Keyboard is great. I can now text like a pro.
I can do most things well w/ the easy to use menus.
Speakers are loud and sound fine.
It is a little wider. but I guess that's something to deal w/ for the great key board
The system hasn't locked up on me.
Volume is good enough for me.
However, the loss of wifi really burns my cookies.
Windows Mobile phones sync with more ease but when I had a Window Mobile, it locked up daily and that was a big problem for me.
So all in all, I prefer the Bold. It's a great phone, but don't expect to use the WiFi if you don't subscribe to a data plan.
I know what your thinking this dude just doesn't know what's up or how to use wifi. Well I used it on my PC, HTC Fuze, Nokia E71, E51, and E63 perfectly fine. So in other words Bold is a sweet phone just don't expect to use wifi or use media since easy

4 Star Rating  "Ultimate Smart Phone"2009-05-18
- Reviewed By User: A2PZXXPGLXXKZU
This is the first smart phone and Blackberry I have ever owned. I am very pleased with it. Have had it for a month now. It does just about everything you would a smart phone to do. I was really close to getting an iPhone, but, there were a few things that iPhone just couldnt offer no matter what the 3.0 software adds to it in june of 2009. The iPhone doesnt have removable and upgradable memory or battery. The Blackberry Bold accepts memory cards as high as 32GB. The 32GB memory card isnt available yet but once it is it will be supported by the Blackberry Bold. You can also buy additional and extended batteries for the Bold. So if you run out of juice or the battery life is dead completely you have a back up. Where as with the iPhone you have to send it off to Apple and get them to replace your battery and do without your phone while they fix the battery. Another main plus for me since I live in cold a climate like Canaada is that fact that the touch screen cant be used with gloves on. You have to either get special gloves or take off your gloves whenever you need to use the phone. The main difference between the iPhone and the Blackberry Bold would the qwerty keyboard. Its so much easier to type witha qwerty keyboard. I have a iPod touch and I find it much harder to type on it than my Blackberry Bold. The Bold also allows many applications to run at the same time in the background. This is not the case with the iPhone. Although maybe the 3.0 software will finally allow this. The list goes on and on with the features the Blackberry Bold has over the iPhone. Copy and paste, push noticfications, video recorder, flash camera, mms, teathering, blue file transfer, etc... If you do a lot of typing and messaging like texts, emails and instant messaging then the Blackberry Bold is smart phone for you. The Blackberry bold also has a very loud and good quality speaker for phone calls and also for media funcitons like listening to music or watching videos. The main thing about the Bold is that your not confined to certain rules or certain apps like you are with the iPhone. Apple seems to lock a lot features on their devices and end up charging you later to unlock these features or upgrades. For example with the Blackberry Bold you can use any web browser that is compatible with it. I am able to use opera mini or bolt and there is skyfire which is in beta testing right now which is suppose to be better and will also flash media. In terms of media functions the Blackberry Bold is very versatile. It plays many difffernt media formats. The screen is 2.8 inches and is 480 x 320 in resolution which is the same resolution as the iPhone. The videos look very well on the bold not to mention the sound quality with either the speaker or headphones. You can use any headhphones you want with it. It also comes with a noise reducing headset which allows you to listen to music and also make calls. The Bold has a nice 2 megapixel camera with flash and video capture. Takes decent pictures not as good as my stand alone digital camera but very good for a smart phone. The flash is a nice added feature. Although the Bold is great all around smart phone there some features I wish it had or had better. A larger 3.0 screen would have been idea in addition to a 3 megapixel camera. I also wish it had better battery life. The talk time is about 4.5 to 5 hours. I end up charging it about every other day. Something around 6 hour talk time would have been ideal for me. In addition I do wish the Bold offered more memory for apps. Out of the 128MB of memory only half is used for applicaitons. This is probably my main grip about the Bold. The iPhone does win in this department. The iPhone has a much larger amount of memory of apps. On my iPod touch I have over 1GB of memory being used for apps. Also I do like the safari browser much better than the blackberry browser on the bold. For videos and music I still also prefer my iPod touch over my Blackberry Bold. The iPhone also has much more selection in terms of apps and games. I have to admit a lot of them are garbage. Also the apple app store has been around longer than the Blackberry app world. There are fewer free apps on the blackberry app world than on Apple app store. Many of the blackberry apps do offer a free trial for a week or a month though. The iPhone also has a larger screen (3.5 inches).

I have years working with Blackberry. As an IT Manager and Blackberry Enterprise Server administration I had gained lot of experience with Blackberry equipments.

Cons:

- Low photo camera quality: I don't like the photo quality results.
- Low video camera quality: video quality is poor in video camera.
- Size: is bigger than curve
- Batt time: 3g and wiFi drain batt time like crazy

Pros:

- 3G speed: enterprise activation, email, sms, browsing, etc are high speed now thanks to 3g technology.
- Menu speed: thanks to the new OS and the cpu speed, the menus and response of the unit is superb
- external SD memory card size allowed: you can add 32gb of sd card externaly without need to open the batt cover. with 32GB you have enough space for a lot of videos, mp3, photos and docs
- Wi-Fi: you can connect to your company, home or hotel wifi without issues. include some tcp tools like ping, etc
- Bluetooth: good for headphones, address book transfer and sync with your car bluetooth system. you can even dial to anyone in your addressbook from your car by say the name if you car support the feature
- Tethered Modem: this is a nice feature. in an easy way you can connect your laptop or pc to internet using 3g speed and your provider. I even connect my laptop in the highway in emergencies to internet at good speed. you need a data plan from your provider (i recommend and unlimited one)
- Level 2 device: this is the first time you can use phone and receive emails at the same time. older bb versions don't allow that. now you can use the device as tethered modem and still receive phone calls. very important feature.
- BES security: there is nothing compare to BES security. Blackberry is the top notch security and mobile email provider in the world. no iPaq, iphone, palm can compare with BB solution. From the BES server I can lock, kill or locate Blackberry devices when stolen, etc
- Qwerty keyboard: i love the BB keyboard and the full qwerty with good response
- GPS: I do not use too much the gps functionality in the BB but works great with BB maps and Google maps.
- Video screen quality: video screen quality is amazing, the unit I have come with some demos and is a real HD video. now the BB have half VGA screen but the colors and sharpness are amazing.
- Audio quality: if you connect your BB to your home theather you will hear full digital 20hz-20Khz audio quality.
- iTunes sync: you can sync your itunes library with BB (i never tested this feature)
- Bluetooth tathered: you can use the thatered modem option without wires, using bluetooth. Tested!!
- light flash for photo and video: the flash can be used for taking photos and for videos.

This is a real good unit. another bad thing is this is expensive, but with a data plan you can save your money.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
