|This was great fun when first opened last Christmas. My grandson is a relatively gentle boy and does not destroy toys. It took him a little while to learn how to operate this player and it worked well for the first month or so but then it gave up. Periodically we tried it again and for no apparent reason it would work for a while and then fail to operate again. It was dropped a couple of times but not really badly handled. It appears to be too delicate for use by a small child. Now we have sporadic success in getting it to play his videos and this is a disappointment for him. I had read negative reviews before purchasing this but had hoped that with more gentle care it would prove reliable. It hasn't.

|We have two, a pink one for a girl and a blue one for a boy. Are they perfect? No, but they are pretty good for what they are - kids players. We are very happy with them overall and the kids each love theirs.
With just a little supervision, they can be used by very small children. Ours started as young as 2. They are fairly tough. They can take some banging around. Ours have never broken or badly malfunctioned, but then they haven't had that much rough treatment. We are trying to teach the kids to respect things that need careful handling. So far, so good.
The kids absolutely love them. They can put them on their laps and it's theirs. Many times they prefer them to the big screen TV. I think it makes them feel more in control.
The screen is small, but kids have no problems at all. I have even seen 2-3 kids watching the same screen.
They sometimes skip a bit and I think one froze once, but overall they work and there have been no major failures.
They do take quite awhile to come up at first and I have never figured out exactly what all the buttons do. Many buttons cause it to start over from the beginning of the DVD. Trying to get them to pause and then start right back up has been a problem, but then maybe I just don't know how to work them right.
One charge lasts about an hour or maybe a little more. We like that. When they run out of juice, we can get the kids to do something else, like go to bed. ;-)
They sure make long plane trips and waiting in the boarding area much easier.

|We purchased two of these Christmas 2008. One pink, one blue. As of this review, our pink one is still working but the blue one is shot. I called Fisher Price customer service but because it's been over the one year warranty (info that offered voluntarily) nothing could be done. The blue one does not charge ... period. Working, working, stopped working. Keeping track of the tool to open the back is a pain and I've swapped out adapters (with the pink one) to make sure it's not the adapter. I'm throwing out a toy and don't even know why. Customer service says this isn't an issue they've seen before and because of that, there isn't anything they can do.
I'm so disappointed we spent this kind of money. As of today, the blue one is a $220.00 toy! Save your money and get the kids a cheapie portable DVD player. You could replace it 7-8 times for the cost of this one. It may be kid tough, but it should be "Tough, Kid."

|The exterior is durable as promised, but the quality of the dvd player itself is lacking. Won't play dvds, skips, quit working entirely. When it did work there would be random lines across the screen. Fisher Price should team up with a quality electronics manufacturer to make something like this. I would be willing to pay more for a DVD player that WORKS.
Also, how about adding a "button lock" option of some sort so young ones don't accidentally/purposefully hit a button and mess up their movie, and then freak out about it?

|I am shocked at the abuse that the Tough Kid DVD Player is taking and still able to play. My son has dropped it many times and it still works. Sometimes the sound button gets stuck (from being dropped so many times). I have to keep it charged because he uses it everyday. I haven't taken it on any road trips hopefully, it will be able to stay charged for at least 2 to 3 hours. The product arrived within 5 to 7 days in its original packing. I will definitely order from this person again in the future.|

|Great educational toy that is capable of with standing the rough and tough play of an 18 month toddler. My grandson loves the DVD player - well actually he loves the Elmo videos. This DVD player makes the viewing of Elmo possible. His parents love it also as the player frees up the TV screen for them. This was a great buy!|
