I got this for an uncle and it works pretty good as expected from canon.. but writing to the disc is a painstaking work.

The Canon DC310 Camcorder is really nice, smaller than I imagined and produces great zoom optical pictures (via Camera Mode -SD Card) and really impressive DVD's. People need to simply read the manual (which is only 88 pages) and is EZ to read, and understand. Set-up may take some adjusting but the manual spells it out. Some have complained that this model doesn't have image stabilization, but it does. Once you get onto using the camera, know how to initialize any RW discs, (verbatim recommended) and know how to finalize the disc, this small disc will play on most DVD players. For those needing the Fire Wire for transferring images via IEEE wire, will need the Canon DC 330 . But you can certainly copy the DVD via computer burner or external DVD burner. A Good DVD Camcorder.

I previously owned a Canon VHS camcorder and was very pleased with it. Therefore I had no qualms about making this purchase decision. It is easy to use and has similar features to the camcorder I have. I did end up purchasing a spare battery so that I have it available when I know I will be using it for extended periods of time. The camera has all that I want in a digital camcorder.

We are very pleased with our new Canon DC310 DVD camcorder. We have been using it for over 2 weeks, we took pictures of our granddaughter's ballet recital in a dark auditorium and we were 9 rows back and the picture was as bright as day and the sound was very good. We took the camcorder on vacation and took several short moving of family and friends. It has performed great in all types of lighting and circumstances.

I reviewed the Consumer's Report 2009 regarding dvd camcorders and this model rated one of the highest. I am thrilled to concur with the Report. I wanted something simple to use which provided a good image at a good value. This seems to meet all three. The vendor I used shipped it within 4-5 days (Sixth Avenue Electronics -6ave). Overall great experience. NOTE: Read the manual - if you don't finalize the discs properly you may loose all of the recordings.

Pros:-
1) Price is cheap for a DVD camcorder 2) Outdoor video quality 3) optical zoom
Cons:-
1) The menu is very confusing. 2) You cannot finalize unless you connect the camera to power adapter. You will not know it unless you read the manual carefully 3) You cannot charge the camera if the power button is turned on. So assume that you are using the camera and it goes off because of no charge. You connect it to the power adapter, it will not charge...it is because the power button is still turned on. I had this issue and had a hard time finding the cause. I even sent my camera to canon repair and it got returned back saying I need to keep the power button off while charging and otherwise it will not charge. 4) Finally, there is a lot of problem with finalizing the disc. The finalize menu item will not show up while in record mode. That is fine. But I recorded my disc in VR mode and now I see Finalize menu item but it is not selectable..not sure why. I am not able to finalize my disc and can't play it in dvd player. When I see the content of the DVD, it has files in VRO format. To convert it to DVD format, I need a software now which will cost me. And that's when I decided to write this review.
