Enjoy AT&T Mobile TV on the LG Vu's brilliantly colorful 3-inch interactive touchscreen.AT&T Service Options
This AT&T phone can handle high-speed data connectivity via AT&T's 3G mobile broadband data network, which is available in most major metropolitan areas. The AT&T 3G network uses the dual-band UMTS/HSDPA 850/1900 MHz network (also known as WCDMA), making it possible to enjoy a variety of feature-rich wireless multimedia services with speeds up to 3.6 Mbps. It also gives AT&T the advantage of offering simultaneous voice and data services.

In areas where the 3G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the AT&T EDGE network, which offers availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. Providing average data speeds between 75-135Kbps, it's fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services, including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go. You'll also enjoy quad-band GSM connectivity, which allows you to make calls in more than 190 countries and access data applications in the more than 135 countries where AT&T offers international data roaming.

With 3G connectivity, you'll be able to access AT&T's Video Share service, which enables you to send a live, one-way video stream to another compatible phone during a standard voice call. The service also allows you to switch the direction of the video stream during the same phone call. (Customers must be in an area served by the company's 3G network and have a Video Share-enabled phone.)

You get access to AT&T Mobile Music, which enables you to buy tracks while on the go, access the Napster and eMusic subscription music services, stream music video, discover what's playing with Music ID song-recognition software, and find out what's hot with The Buzz music news portal. And it has a built-in web browser for MEdia Net downloads and mobile web browsing. AT&T's MEdia Net service enables you to receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more.

Note that if you want to enjoy the full audio and video capabilities of your UMTS phone, be sure to select a MEdia Max service plan option during checkout. If you do not sign up for a MEdia Max service plan option, you will be paying per KB when you use the over-the-air UMTS audio and video features on your phone (upwards of $10 per minute).

It comes with 155 MB of internal memory and it can be expanded using microSD memory cards up to 4 GB in size. The phone book has a capacity for 500 contact entries, each with space for storing 5 numbers, 2 email addresses and a picture ID.

The phone also offers USB mass storage capabilities for storing your most important documents and files.

With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server. Send contacts, calendar events, and pictures/videos/voice memos wirelessly. The phone stores up to 20 Bluetooth pairings.

Snap great photos and videos on the go, for printing at home or sending via MMS. The 2-megapixel camera offers five resolution settings--from 1600 x 1200 pixels for prints to 160 x 120 pixels for sending via MMS--and it features a 2x digital zoom, multiple shutter tones, night mode, multi-shot capabilities, self-timer, and customizable brightness, and white balance. An in-phone photo editor lets you resize, crop, rotate, and add color effects. You can also shoot video clips at 320 x 240 and 176 x 144 pixels. You can keep shooting for as long as you have space on your microSD card, or cap the length at 42 seconds for sending via MMS.

In addition to voice calls, text messaging, and MMS capability, the phone is also compatible with mobile email from services including Yahoo!, AOL, Windows Live, AT&T Yahoo!, and BellSouth, as well as instant messaging (IM) from AIM, Windows Live, and Yahoo!. The Vu also comes stock with a built-in web browser for downloads and mobile web browsing via MEdia Net (with WAP 2.0, WML, iHTML, xHTML, and WCSS compatibility). T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for entering text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

Here is what people are saying about the LG Vu CU920 TV Phone (AT&T)
2 Star Rating  "Good on paper, but ..."2009-10-11
- Reviewed By User: A2QAR0GWKP5XYA
At first I really liked this phone. The quasi-keyboard interface was useful and the touch screen stuff made it easy to go through apps. I even bought a SIM card and loaded some music on the thing, which started out as a good idea, until it went through a change of personality (*queue organ music*)

Now I've had this cursed thing about a year and with wear it's turned into a very fussy phone. I expect part of this has to do with wear creating a change in sensitivity to the keypad response. Then: see an icon, touch/push, application/event launches. Now: see an icon, touch/push, phone mockingly beeps at you, touch/push, mock, t/p, etc for several evolutions until what ever it is comes up, or scrolls out of site, or something else launches, or whatever.

The keypad has become all but useless, or at the least unpredictable. Typical would be to enter a speed dial number, say "2" hit "call" and then hold the phone up to your ear, realize nothing's happending, look down and realize you've hit the "8," which is close to the call, and in that random world of Vu is what triggered. So you clear that number, hit call again, phone beeps, hit call, 8, clear, exits to the home screen, bring the keypad back up, 2, call, clear the 8, call, it dials (finally!) and by then you'd forgotten what you were calling about, unless it was to tell some random human about how frustrating your phone's interface is.

Worst of all, in using the phone you have to be very careful -- I'm talking bomb squad disarmament careful -- when taking a call on the phone. Hit one wrong button and you suddenly launch voice mail, which kicks your just-answered call into hold, which leaves you doing whatever you were doing when the phone rang trying to mash the right combo of buttons to bring back your call and hang up on voice mail (which is something like a Luftwaffe fighter pilot qualification test. I'm still not sure how to do it, but it involves mashing buttons -- t/p mock; t/p mock; etc -- until the phone allows you to regain control -- for however briefly. This has to do with the lock button on the lower right, coupled with the call button on the left, and the machine being self-aware and wanting to mock you at every turn (I'm not sure about the last part, can't prove it, but still, no mere cold machine could have such a ex-spouse personality.)

Best part? Go into AT&T and tell them this phone isn't happening and you'd like to swap it out with something that is happening. No can do. Or at least, no can do unless you want to upgrade to an iPhone which they'd be happy to do, just tickled, since this also means you'll be ramping up some massive data plan, lining it's pockets.

So I'm trapped with this limbless Terminator clone, wondering what adventure awaits the next time I interact with it and knowing it will result in bitter tears.

The worst part? I'm pretty sure the phone's going to find out I wrote this and punish me for it.

So, between the phone, and the AT&T restriction, but mostly the phone, get something else. Otherwise, I see you out there, driving down the road, in the coffee shop, whatever, screaming at some small black box in your hand, pleading with it, making rueful noises and mashing, always mashing, I'll know you are a member of my tribe, and will feel pity for you.

I am so thrilled that I found a phone that actually works out in the ozark hills. None of our other cell phones worked at our farm no matter which company I tried. I asked my daughter if I could take hers and see if worked any better and could actually surf the internet as well as not worry about dropped calls. After researching a bit online, I found that this phone has GPRS, EDGE and HSDPA functions and is a quadband. It works even better than the old tri-band phones for reception. None of our neighbors cell phones work for them until they leave our 1 mile private lane and even then often have dropped calls until they reach the major highway. Not this phone. Finally we have a phone that works while traveling from our St. Peters, MO home to our farm which is several hours south. I also like the touch screen as usually the phones now have such tiny dial pads. Although this one does have a nice sized keyboard compared to many. Compared to the last few cell phones I've had, the battery in the cu920 lasts forever. Mine lasts several days before needing charged. The only thing I dislike is the screen in bright sunlight is difficult to see but looks bright and good in other circumstances. I don't know about the camera and those type of features as I use my phone for communication purposes. Our phones came with 2 different earbud type devices but we haven't tried them out yet and probably won't use them. We did purchase ours somewhere else (*cost*co*) and didn't have to purchase the internet service on both phones which we liked as my husband doesn't use it. I was told elsewhere that I had to buy the internet plan or couldn't buy the phone. We also like the sound quality. I just hope it's reliable and lasts the 2 year contract time. I don't know why some of the reviews said they have trouble with reception but we have found the opposite to be true for us in our area with ATT.

The phone is attractive, feature rich, touch screen sensitive, but
If you drive a lot, the vocal commands are cumbersom to use
Camera not so good
Screen lock - unlock must constantly be pressed during a phone call
All in all so - so, must be a better product on the market. I would not buy it again

I spent a lot of time looking at reviews, deciding between this phone and the Samsung Eternity. I chose this phone because it exhibited better call/talk quality when I tested the demo models at a local cell phone store. Though the graphics and menus on the Eternity are much snazzier.

The touch screen works fine. Though there is no accelerometer to auto-rotate the keyboard when you're text messaging. The address book manager studpidly doesn't use the QWERTY keyboard.

The TV ap is fine, but I'm not paying for it, so it's just an icon wasting space on my screen.

Amazon has a lot of cheap accessories for this phone from third-party sellers. There are sites with lots of free themes, games, and applications if you buy a data cable or memory card.

i agree with the others about the responsiveness of the touch screen and the volume (very good). i use an old-school plantronics headset with it and it only drops the signal on occasion. that being said, here are a few caveats that are not really dealbreakers but they can be irritating after a while:

1. if you dial voice mail right after a missed call, the voice mail number replaces that number on the call list. it looks like you can call them right back by using the touch screen but in fact it dials voice mail instead. if the number isn't elsewhere on your phone this can be inconvenient (while driving, for example).
2. if you want to return to the "mute" screen after dialing into a conference call you have to backspace thru the numbers you keyed in.
3. there is not a conference call feature to add someone to the conversation if someone else calls you on the other line.
4. you cannot set the alarm while the phone is silent if you don't want to be awakened by phone calls.

the vu is still a nice, low-cost alternative to the iPhone if you don't need all the bells and whistles but my next touch screen phone will have at least one of these issues remedied!

LG Vu CU920 Phone (AT&T)

I have been a very satisfied T-Mobile customer for 5 years before switching to AT&T. WHAT A MISTAKE!!! The only reasons why I switched to AT&T are rollover minutes and corporate discount (which I haven't seen)

On the Phone:
1. battery life is VERY short. even after turning off 3G mode, battery life is far from what i want it to be
2. charging takes a long time
3. sometimes there's a lag time between touches
4. key pad isn't as accurate as Blackberry's (i guess you get what you pay for)
5. bad design on the location of the memory card and bad design on the charge/headphone connector
6. reception sucks! and occasionally you'll get "no service available" at places where you normally get reception. (this could be on AT&T network, but then this phone comes with AT&T services so....)

On AT&T:
- BAD customer service
- BAD reception
- WATCH YOUR BILL!!! tried to bill me something that i didn't subscribe. also tried to charge me something that I have cancelled one week before the free trial period ended (citing that the change didn't show up on their system until a week after the trial ended).
- corporate discount: it's been four months and i still don't see it. customer rep just kept on telling me that it'll show up on the next bill.

The buttom line:
I can't wait for AT&T contract to end and go back to T-Mobile and a phone that's not made by LG.
