The book was in good condition. However the description did not indicate that it did not have a dust cover. Other than that, the condition was fine and I received it in a timely manner.

1 Star Rating  "would give this negative infinity stars if I could"2009-09-28
- Reviewed By User: A34H6FPJRMTAJO
My first reaction was that Breaking Dawn deserved negative 100 stars. But then I thought, isn't that arbitrary? Why stop there? Why not go down to negative a thousand? Indeed, why not? So I came to decide that the book rated negative 1,000 stars. But my thought process continued as such, whence I came to the ultimate reasoning. There is no review low enough for this book. It's infinitely bad.

Hope that helps!

1 Star Rating  "A Bit Disappointed"2009-09-28
- Reviewed By scottslittlerookie
I am completely new to the Twilight universe. I never saw what the hype was from the get go, and I don't like "teen" and "young adult" novels. Give me something to provoke my nightmares.

When I think of vampire novels, the greatest ones to my mind are, Brom Stoker's Dracula, Ann Rice's Interview with A Vampire, and Stephen King's Salem's Lot. When I first heard about Twilight, I was repulsed. How could you possibly right a "good" vampire novel if the vampires didn't slaughter people? My first introduction the Twilight universe was, oddly enough, with the movie. When I saw it, I laughed so hard my sides hurt. What was it that made this so bad? I mean the acting is below sub par, the dialogue is cheesy and unrealistic in every since of the two words. Was it the source material? After I watched it I was disgusted because my interest was piqued and I just had to know if the novel was a bad as the movie.

To my surprise, the novel was actually pretty good. I enjoyed it, and as it ended, I found myself (rather reluctantly) wondering what was going to happen next. I went and read New Moon and Eclipse and was still not satisfied. Despite reading really bad reviews online, I decided to read Breaking Dawn anyway in the hopes that once I was finished I'd be satisfied enough to leave the Twilight universe for good.

For that purpose, Breaking Dawn did not disappoint. I will never delve into this series again, and I'll never pick up another book by Stephenie Meyer. I loved the first three books. I'll be honest, and say that. But Breaking Dawn was horrible. Beyond horrible it was so bad it made horrible look good.

My issues with the book were pretty much the same as everyone else. The story went from having some promise, to being a total let down. Even though I do agree with another reviewer who said Bella only gets married for sex, I was able to look past that because, after all, it is a fantasy story. My real issues were Bella's pregnancy, and Jacob Black (I never liked him at all).

Bella's pregnancy is sure to inspire abstinence, it's that bad. Not only does Bella become pregnant (a usually impossible thing in vampire myths) but she's willing to sacrifice everything to keep the baby despite the fact that it's killing her. We're never give a good explanation of how it's possible for Bella to become pregnant either. Meyer's weak explanation is that, essentially, male vampires can still produce semen despite the fact that their bodies are dead. Edward mopes around pouting and doesn't really do much for the first half of the book after getting her pregnant, but sit there and....mope. Some husband there. The birth scene is way too explicit in my opinion. Meyer is so touchy about the sex, never giving us any good juicy details, but then she completely crosses a line with the birth of the "vamp baby". (Part of me understands that this had to be bad because Edward would never have turned Bella into a vampire any other way.) If I was a teenage girl, and even if I knew better, that scene would be enough to inspire me to either have really safe sex, or no sex at all. There's no subtlety to the pro life message. It's right there in your face. Choice life PERIOD. To hell with your choice, if you get pregnant, even if your life is at stake, you MUST have the baby anyway. Give me a break. Bella's so turned off by the idea of getting married, but wait, being a parent, that's no problem at all.

Jacob "imprinting" on the baby is just sick in so many more ways than one. To me, this was a trite excuse to keep Jacob in the story, but make him less annoying because suddenly he's not throwing himself at Bella. His character runs off at the end of Eclipse, and in my opinion, he shouldn't have come back.

Rosalie, a character who hates Bella from the start, becomes Bella's "partner in crime" as it were. She does nothing throughout the first half of the book but cement the pro life message and make it all the more in your face.

The worst part of the story is actually after all this sickness ends. Bella finally gets what she wants, to be a vampire. But wait, through the magic of...whatever Meyer was thinking, Bella circumvents the entire "newborn" stage of vampirism, just by "having a strong mind". What a cop out, as another reviewer mentioned. The second half of the book goes by in a blur. Just boring little details of Bella's new existence.

Literally two hundred pages from the end, we get our first taste of conflict. The Volturi are on their way to Forks to destroy the Cullens and their vamp baby. Finally there has to be some good right. WRONG. There's so much build up and then total let down. The Volturi come, and rather than just getting the fight underway, decide to be diplomatic. In the second (or so) to last chapter, a whole new character is mentioned who is (coincidentally) just like Bella and Edward's baby. He comes in, has a few paragraphs of dialogue, and then the Volturi leave. That's it. According to Meyer's website, if a fight had broke out with the Volturi, there would have massive casualties on both sides of the line. Personally, I think I'd have been okay with that. At least all the build up wouldn't have been for nothing. And, okay, so Bella dies, so Edward dies, a little bit of drama is better than the actual ending. As another reviewer noted, this story was written for Meyer. In that case, it should never have been published. The ending with Eclipse, while incomplete in someways, was more satisfying. The really story ended there for me. This book is garbage and I'm embarrassed I wasted my time or my money to read it.

This book was horrible, and didn't not live up to it's predecessors. The first books were a great ride and I had fun reading them, but this one just left a sour taste in my mouth about the story all together. With this book, I lost any taste I had for the Twilight universe and Stephenie Meyer.
