I have a 12 speaker sound system, all Infinity. I have tried everything else except the extremely expensive stuff and Infinity is far and away superior sound for my ears, maybe not for yours. Everybody's ears are different. This 12" sub with 400 watts puts out incredible woof. I now have 2. I also have 2 10" subs with 250 watts each and the difference is quite dramatic. I have wanted one of the bigger subs for years and finally got up the nerve to put up with my wife's complaints and got some bigger ones. I now run my sub volume at half what I used to and get more sound than before. These are great subs. Don't be afraid to give one a try.

This subwoofer will rattle your house. It is excellent for home theater, but for music I am not impressed. Explosions and crashes and everything that goes bump really comes to life with this subwoofer. However, with music it does not mesh well with my tower speakers no matter what crossover frequency I select and the big 12 inch subwoofer lags a bit behind the 6.5 inch speakers in my towers. When it comes down to it, the bass from this sub is big, but it is also sloppy. 8 inch subwoofers are great for music but not big enough for movies. 12 inch subwoofers are great for movies but don't quite mesh with music. I recommend getting a 10 inch subwoofer with a good watt rating from a good manufacturer and it should be able to do both movies and music.

I've auditioned the Energy ESW-V10, Polk Audio PSW12, Velodyne "###" , Paradigm "###", and Klipsch KSW12 subwoofers a few years ago, and wanted to buy the Energy ESW-V10 to replace my old Dahlquist PDQ-XII, and to match with all of my energy speakers, but I accidently bought the Infinity PS212 for the heck of it even without audition it (what an idiot). After listening to it for couple hours, I want to give it 4 star, and I'll wait for a few more months after break in period, then I'll change my rating.
Pro
1) Heavy and solid built
2) Tight bass, more power than what I needed. The whole house was shaking when I crank up my Marantz ZR6001 to db -6. Its bass match up with my Energy Connoisour C-5 very well.
3) nice looking design
4) One of the the best user manual with short and clear explaining how to set it up. I've been using powered subwoofer for a while and didn't know that I made a minor wrong connection to my old subwoofer until I see the Infinity PS212 instruction. All of the other electronic manufacturers should learn from this.
5) Respond to the music and movie sountrac (Lord of the Ring - The return of the King) very well, way much better than my old Dahlquist PDQ-XII.

Cons: Well not yet, but I hate to see it when it says "MADE IN CHINA" :( . Isn't there anything made in America nowaday?? besides toilet paper? :)

So far, I'm not regretting buying this Infinity ( I did in the past for the Infinity PS8 - piece of junk), but I still want to buy the Energy ESW-V10. If I have a chance to choose again, I would buy the Energy ESW-V10 in a heart beat even it costs a few hundred bucks more.

One thing I want to add that setting the Subwoofer is one of the most difficult task ever. There are many different ideas of how to set up the LFE and volumn on the internet and you won't ever find the same answer. For me, I set my receiver LFE at 80Hz, SW level at -5db on the receiver, and my subwoofer volumn right in the middle, and LFE at 80Hz. I found out that this is the best for my system.

Update: Cons - Annoying thumping noise during speech, I still study to see what is going on. I removed 1 star because of that.

I purchased this subwoofer for under $200.00 to replaces a JBL unit that has been giving me a problem. The JBL is a 10" 150 watt unit and the Infinity is rated at 12" 400 watts. Though the Infinity unit sounds great it is not a night & day difference compared to the 150 watt unit it replaced. Mine did indeed come with the black mesh grill not the silver one. All in all its a nice sub but not going to blow you away if you already have a powerful small sub. For the price its a steal compared to some of the less powerful competition.

I have this sub in a less than ideal open living space with 12' ceilings. Even with all of that air space this sub still gets the job done. Playing Flight of the Phoenix or Cloverfield on Blu-ray will rattle the walls and grab your attention. And perhaps the attention of your neighbors as well.

I have yet to hear this sub distort even in the most intense action sequences. This is probably due to the big 400w RMS amp having plenty of room to put out a clean signal. It produces deep thunderous bass and is probably the best sub in the $300 price range that I've evaluated. And if you calibrate it properly it will produce fairly tight and punchy bass sans the annoying boominess found in cheaper subs. However, I will say that the only identifiable weakness is musical reproduction. This is an excellent Home Theater sub woofer, but it's not so precise for music. Overall this sub gets two thumbs up! However, if you're looking for an infrasonic HT sub and/or a quality musical sub, then you will need to step up to a SVS or HSU Research.
