I am a live sound engineer. I recently bought 2 of these after using one that was provided by a guitarist after its sound blew me away. Used in combination with a mic (and with the 4x12 emulation) these can provide a very full guitar tone, that you have a lot of shaping control with at the console. Even by itself it doesn't sound bad in the least. It is great to use the direct signal for a monitor mix because you can gain the signal out to high heaven, and never have to worry about it feeding back. One less thing to worry about. For the price you can't beat these, they add a whole new level of convenience for me when putting together a monitor mix. For everyone complaining about the battery compartment, you can use phantom power on these from the FOH console and never have to even put a 9V in it.

i connect it with my acoustic guitar to a pa during church service, here and there i have to go to the snake unplug it and replug it in to get the signal, and yes, it loses signal after a little while.
I mic an acoustic guitar using a SM57 near the soundhole plus a cable out from the guitar to an acoustic xciter, chorus pedal, flanger, volume pedal and then into a Behringer mixer along with my vocal mic. From there I run a line out to an input of a small 30 Watt Fender Acoustsonic amp which I use as my monitor. From the amp's line out I run a cable into the ULTRA-G GI100 and from there to the house mixer. It works fine as it fattens up the total sound somewhat before reaching the house mixer. The only negative side of this is the way they made the battery compartment. It takes about as long to fit the battery in as it does to do my whole setup. Surely they were asleep when they designed the battery compartment. They should look at the LR Baggs Para Acoustic DI if they want to know how the pros make a workable battery compartment.
I can't really complain about this little unit. It's the second direct box I've ever used, and it does a pretty good job of faking the sound of a solid-state guitar amp. I ran my effects loop into the box, and the box directly to the mixer, and it was adequate for recording demos at home without having to drag out the amps and mics and everything. The battery is nearly impossible to get in and out of the little hole, but I didn't use the battery anyhow, since it'll run on phantom power.

its good i dont know different types of d.i.'s but it gets the job done. it will never break . i rated it 4 and not 5 stars because i found replacing the battery is a problem, i had to use a pair of plyers to take it out of the unit, although its not a reason to consider buying another it does drive you kinda crazy when its time to replace the battery.
[1] Behringer Ultra-G is very useful if you're planning to record your own stuff. My band rents a studio room to practice. The system used to record us is simple (and it's free): A cheap environment mic is used to record drums and the voice goes directly to the mixer. The result is a poor quality recording: The music is all mixed and it sounds terrible. The voice is the only thing that sounds great because it's directly recorded to the console. This reference tape is very improtant because we use this tape to hear what is okey and what we have to improve. Well, now I use this Direct Box to record my guitar directly to the console. We put the environment mic inside the room to record the drummer. The result is a more separated mix: The voice and the guitar sound great and the drums are okey, it's to "understand" it and to correct mistakes. I have to mention that the cabinet simulator included in the Ultra -Gcabinet is incredible, sounds natural and let you record directly without an expensive amp.
[2]So you're going to play live? Well, you can use the traditional mic system AND additionaly connect your guitar to to the console thru the direct box. Or you can use only the direct box instead of the mic in your amp. The problem with the mics is that they filter others sounds and frequences (like the drums) Sometimes this could be a nightmare to the sound engineers. With the direct box you avoid this problem and you get a more clean sound from your guitar.
My band play death metal, so it's important to hear the riffs, the solos, the drum rolls and the bass lines properly to enjoy the music. This little red devil is going to solve a lot of problems like home recording, live playing and studio recording. If you're a guitar player like me, do yourself a favor and get one now, you'll be very pleased with the results.
