| I bought and returned these speakers immediately. They have no range! Notice that under "technical specifications" -- on amazon, on the bose website - anywhere! -- there is no info on the frequency response!! They must really want to keep this info hidden because it's terrible; it's very standard to know what you are paying for to find out what the frequency response (Hz) is. I bought them anyway, without knowing, and learned why I couldn't find this info. I just took it for granted since bose is such a respected brand, and they are not the cheapest. So I started comparing Hz (after talking to a sound geek that I know) and got the Creative Gigaworks T20s which cost the same as these bose and are much better with separate bass and tweeter too. |

"I love them, and so do all my friends... a simple matter of taste" | 2009-10-24 |

For what these speakers deliver, they are quite a good value, and everyone who has heard them
at my house is really impressed. That being said, I have no problem with reviews that suggest that
these speakers are not to their taste. If you are someone who is looking for a gut-thumping low end punch,
these speakers are not for you. If you are someone looking for a relatively high fidelity computer
monitor stereo setup for $100, and the dynamic (volume) range does not need to be max'ed out...
these work really well for both audio and video support.
These are computer monitors, not home stereo speakers; if you want real home stereo, spend the dough.
We use our iMac for all our media, and these Bose Companion 2's just plain work for us: above average
Bose-style monitor audio quality, and all for a C-note. .
My only negative comment is: If you really try to max out the volume levels, these speakers
have a built-in dynamic compressor which will cause a noticeable throbbing effect ( I actually called up
Bose and confirmed this compression thing) at high volumes which I find unacceptable. So if I want to crank
volumes up, I find that I need to go up to, say, 80% of maximum possible volume , and no higher.
Other than that, they have a really pleasing sound quality, to my ears. For $100, it's a nice deal.

"Some people are just going to hate you for being number 1" | 2009-10-20 |

I bought these speakers because I specifically did not want to have a subwoofer attached (2.1) system for my laptop. It is super annoying when I am moving around alot to have the extra couple of cables and a woofer box that is bigger than my laptop.
Of all the 2.0 speakers I compared at Fry's electronics (huge store, massive selection) these impressed me the most. They had a rich quality about them and the bass response on these is pretty ridiculous from what I've experienced. If you are someone who likes rap and likes to impress your friends with ear-blasting bass, then these are NOT the speakers for you. Get the massive $400 Klipsch set with the giant woofer if you demand bass that your neighbors can hear, but if you are into rock and metal these should be great.
I can't believe so many people are dissing these speakers, they perform like a champ with about 1 minute of quick equalization on winamp, and they are definitely the best compact speakers I've ever owned.
This is my first Bose experience and alot of the people who are giving 1 star reviews are probably people who hate bose simply because they are number 1. If you look around, you will see people hating Beer (budweiser) Retail stores (Wal-mart) Operating systems (microsoft), etc. because the corporation happens to be number 1. Is bose overhyped garbage that is just all style and slick marketing? Absolutely not. Are Klipsch speakers that cost 50+ dollars more going to sound better, Sure.
These speakers make my music sound AWESOME! I can hear subtle details in instrumentation that I couldn't hear before without wearing my $200.00 sennheiser headphones. I've also discoverd nuances in my different guitars when using this with my LINE 6 amp software that I couldnt hear when hooking up to my Marshall or other conventional guitar amp. Unlike most, even high end guitar amps, there wasnt constant hum and buzz. When mixing a song, it handles bass guitar sounds in a way that most 2.0 speakers simply can't.
When doing a final mixdown, I will usually switch over to my M-Audio Bx8a Deluxe speakers which sound way better but are also the size of a doghouse and cost five times as much if you compare their prices at a typical retail store.
The 59.95 price point for a refurbished set of these bose speakers was pretty sweet too. |

| I'm not an audiophile, and rarely play CDs, and MP3s using my computer. But, I do listen to a lot of programs over the internet, and these speakers are great for that. Spoken words are very clear, back ground noises are discernible, but not distracting, and subtle modulations in tone give new color to speech. What music I have listened to sounds good, but I generally use my stereo system for that. I don't have much room for computer speakers either, and these are a perfect fit. Delivers sound that I'd expect from a much larger, more expensive speaker. |

| These are my first Bose speakers - but they won't be the last. The quality of the sound is superior to any speaker I've ever heard, in terms of clarity and accuracy. Bose doesn't rely on boosted bass to make you think you've got a good speaker. Mid- and upper-frequencies are as just as dynamic as the lows, with no frequency range exaggerated. |
