"Deal killer: Missing a speed limit indicator" | 2009-11-18 |
| - Reviewed By User: A3B4RVVPWYSZ1P |
After owning Garmins, I find that having a speed limit indicator is a very worthwhile feature when traveling out of town. It allows you to know the limit, wherever you are, without having to keep an eye peeled for signs on already unfamiliar roads.
There certainly are many good reviews on this unit, and it does have some nice features - just missing the one I consider invaluable.
It also can be slow to non-functional in rerouting after going off the route.
Top volume is not that good. Only one English language voice, no choices. Slow start-up.
Very nice slim body and great screen size. |

"What Happens When Your Unit Is Out Of Warranty" | 2009-11-10 |

All of the reviews on the Roadmate series GPS devices deal with their capabilities, mine has to do with their service. My 760 was out of the warranty period as a result of me storing the unit in a drawer in my bedroom! For almost one year I had GPS through my cell phone, so the 760 was not used. When I changed Cell carriers, I decided to pull out the old 760 and use it again. The down time in the drawer was enough to "kill it". As soon as I plugged it in, I got a blue screen saying "too cold." That message never went away. I called Magellan customer service and they said, sorry, we understand that you stored the unit in your drawer, but it's now out of warranty, we don't have any upgrades for your unit, you can buy another through our "customer loyalty" program, which I quickly found out was more expensive than buying the same unit right here on Amazon! What hurt me so badly, was the fact that I had paid several hundred dollars for mine, before the prices dropped so much on GPS units, and Magellan knew how much I paid, and they would not help me in any way, other than say, buy another through their "customer loyalty" program, which was no help at all, as the same unit can be purchased for less most anywhere on the Internet.
Just be informed, if you buy Magellan, and go over that warranty period, no matter what the circumstances, there are absolutely NO exceptions, you are dead in the water, as their customer loyalty program is of no value to the customer at all. They quote list prices that no one sells GPS devices for, for the sake of appearing to be helpful. I paid enough for my Magellan 760 to purchase several of their newer models, but they would not take that into consideration, so I loose. I hope you don't loose as well. A company is only as good as their customer service, and I can assure you, there was no customer service for me! Is there anyone out there that would like a nice 760 Roadmate with no scratches, perfect condition, other than it only gives a blue screen that says "too cold"? |

"Debby's GPS" | 2009-11-03 |

I loved the first one I bought for myself that I bought another one for my Dad for his 80th birthday.
Right out of the box I drove straight from Seattle to my girlfriends house in Oregon, 7 hours away. It took me right to her door. Then I drove to Boise and all different areas around without any problem. I love the gas station button that shows when you drive. I had no problem finding a gas station no matter where I was.
I found it very easy to use. If for some reason I missed a turn it would re route me back to where I needed to go from where I was... I found that I had no problem hearing the GPS tell me what street I was to turn on next....The important part to me is how easy it was to learn to use and the size of the sceen that you look at when you drive. The larger size screen made it easy to see.
I have told all my friends what a great GPS this is. |

"Best Nav I have owned" | 2009-11-01 |

| I have owned several nav systems since they became available. When it was time to upgrade my old system due to age I went with Magellan (rather than Garmin). I tried a new brand and I'm glad I did. The start-up and shut down times for this system are fast. I find the directions to be spot on and the road signs shown on the screen are useful in that you know what to expect. Having the voice commands read out the actual road names rather than just "left turn" is a huge improvement. My only complaints about this system are that the POI searches are extremely slow and the display should allow for more options to be read at one time (speed, ETA, ETA to next, etc...), currently it only allows one. The size of this system is perfect, very thin and most of the size is usable given the large screen. The only hardware concern is that the power cord and the windshield mount interfere with each other. Removing the system from the mount will pull off the cord. |

"Excellent Unit...But not reliable" | 2009-10-27 |

| I have tried some Garmin GPS such as 255W, 885W, 265W and this Mag 1470. I prefer Mag 1470 over Garmin because it had best map layout, large screen, POI. However, it is currently on it's way back to amazon. The reason was it did not allows me to enter my street number eventhough my number was within the range display on screen. The unit disabled all number buttons. I called Magellan for help. They tried their best to help me like reset GPS, update latest software (V1.15) but problem still happened. |

"Magellan blows away Garmin." | 2009-10-26 |

I recently purchased a Garmin 265WT which I had to return because it would not display the street names and the QWERTY keyboard was way too small. The signal on the 265WT also was horrible.
Enough with Garmin and now on to the start of this review, the Magellan 1475T Roadmate GPS. I purchased this unit today and after getting it out into the parking lot is acquired a signal in 15 seconds or less. It then took me less than 1 minute to get it onto the cradle and hooked up for service. I took a 25 mile trip which clearly showed my route and the traffic function was working perfectly. I love the fact that the voice is so clear and the QWERTY keyboard is so big and works great. The 1475T got me to my destination without incident.
I love all of the other features like the One-Touch drop down screen. This thing is loaded and the screen is 10 times better than a Garmin. All I can say is that I am totally satisfied with MAgellan and will be telling everyone who is looking for a reliable GPS unit to purchase the 1470 or the 1475T.
It should be noted that all ($150.00 to $300.00) GPS units will have little quirks or minor bugs but in the overall scheme of things this GPS unit far surpasses the Tom-Tom and the Garmin in ease of use and reliability. All I can say is give Magellan a shot and you will surely be sold on its reliability to get you to your destination.
