"GPS Drivers Are Defective !!!" | 2009-12-28 |

| Every time I turn off the computer it loses the gps drivers.I would not buy this again !! The Streets and Trips works,Not any better than A Garmin or whatever brand Regular gps. They all send you on the wrong route half the time, Although they usually do get you to the destination. So far it has invented roads that aren't there, and sent me 10 miles out of the way (no, I didn't go there, just because I already knew where I was going),but on a real trip I'm sure it can find hiways ok.And get me to The address.A map works just as good.If you can stop to read it.Get a different GPS,This Microsoft included product,(like Vista) Is a total failure !! Works only if you can get it to install the messed up drivers,Which are NOT INCLUDED !! Then loses the drivers ?? Then It can't find them again. Must've got lost in Windows 7 ?? lol. The other GPS I got seperately doesn't have any driver problems.Microsoft should recall these GPS units. |

"How I Love This!" | 2009-12-28 |

| This does what you need it to do, take you where you need to go. The best feature I think is the POI "Points of Interest" this let's you know what is in the area so if you want to visit it you can. Also if you do this in advance you can plan your trip to go where you want to go. This software does this very well, by searching the area you select. This software has gotten better at on the road navaigation as well, giving you spoken turn by turn directions. And the full screen mode is very good as well. |

"2010 Better than 2007" | 2009-12-25 |

I use streets and trips weekly to map and plan routes for my job. I have learned to work around some of the shortcomings but these take time.
Things I like: 1. easy to create your own gps trail with the click of a button, although it should be on a tool bar instead of only on the gps task pane. 2. updated streets, my old map was getting a lot of drawn in streets on it. 3. Easy to add addresses to maps.
Things I do not like: 1. only two sizes for toolbar icons, large and small, where is the one most people would use--medium. 2. not enough control of which toolbar icons to include and leave out--you either get the whole block assigned to each section or none of them. 3. still has several streets missing that have been in place for three or four years. 4. occasionally places stop in the wrong place even when specified in address that was given to the program,(i.e. 800 west instead of 800 east) which can create a lot of backtracking. 5. when using the text box on a map it always stays the same size rather than enlarging and shrinking with the map zoom--it would be nice to have a choice of which way to go. 6. copy and paste does not function with this program even from another Microsoft product--no excuse for that.
Bottom line: I like it even with the quirks--most of the things I do not like are nit-picky. It saves me lots of time planning and choosing routes.

"Very Satisfied" | 2009-12-13 |

| This is the first time I have used Streets and Trips with GPS although I have used the program w/o GPS for the last several years. Overall I am very satisfied with the functioning of the GPS. The directions are solid and it does reroute very quickly when changes are made by you. The only warning I would give new users is to be familiar with your route and make adjustments accordingly. This is due because the program will direct you to the shortest route without taking into consideration time of day and traffic flow. The program is very easy to get used to and with wireless mobile broadband you can easily obtain current traffic conditions. I would highly recommend this program. |

"On a Netbook" | 2009-11-30 |

I installed Streets and Trips 2009 on a Lenovo S10e netbook for testing. It is running Windows XP with 1.5 GB of ram. Here are a few brief observations:
-Performance is satisfactory. Routing in real time worked well, there were no complaints.
-As should be expected, the GPS worked best outdoors or in a car. It takes a while to lock, but that is the case with many handheld gps units.
-Screen real estate is at a premium. Microsoft's interface does not lend itself well to the lower resolution of a netbook, but it is still useable enough. To maximize screen space for the maps and other windows, Right-Click on the task bar at the top, and turn off large buttons - and to claim even more space - turn off standard view. The task bar will disappear, but you can still access all features from the drop down menus.
The combination of Microsoft's software, the gps and a netbook makes for an interesting alternative to a dedicated gps unit. There was the moment where I realized that Microsoft's GPS unit would not automatically be configured with Streets and Maps, so I had to do it, which was not difficult, but was also unnecessary. That is the nature of the beast; it is a computer application - not a gps appliance. It benefits from a richer interface due to the presence of a keyboard and mouse, but for some the focused simplicity of a dedicated gps will be enough.
