I haven't had a chance to grab into all the features but it is immediately apparent that this is a highly functional product. For the hobbiest who just want to shoot a few family flicks, this product may be a little too challenging and not worth the price but for the individual who wants the feel of a professional operation, this is an ideal offering. It does have a rather steep learning curve and I would recommend using either the available tutorials or looking into a purchased instruction. It will be difficult to get the most from the product without some help.

"Great value for excellent software"

This is professional quality editing software at a great price. You get basic non-linear editing features, visual and audio effects, standard and HD editing and most of all there are multi-audio tracks to edit sound. I just upload my footage straight into the software and it saves everything. It doesn't have as many features as Final Cut Studio nor the additional bundled software, but it's still a bargain. I paid mine for $141 brand new. Unless you're editing a Hollywood sci-fi blockbuster that requires extensive effects and sounds, you'll be satisfied with Final Cut Express.
This program is a let down after Apple's much simpler program, iMovie. I've used Adobe Premier Pro and liked it, but I needed something akin to it, perhaps more like Premier Express, for the MAC. No way! This is one unwieldy program.
It seems like I spend half my time rendering and rendering before I can play the final result. Many of the tools are hard to use and somewhat unpredictable. It has a lot of advanced features, but I find that the learning curve is just too steep for the occasional user.
When I bought Final Cut Express, I was scared that the software might be complicated from previous using iMovie. I was wrong. This editing tool is s easy and fun. It's a great introduction to Final Cut and affordable than Final Cut Studios. Plus it comes with a Live Type, a application that customize your own text and credit.
The one problem I have is the compression application that comes with it. You really have to do research if you want your videos to come out clear and crisp with the compression that Final Cut Express comes with. Meaning, you have to the math homework with the bytes.
Over all....get it, learn it and abuse it before moving up to studios. Best $200 investment for your media production.

I wanted more than IMovie could deliver. Final Cut Express 4 gave me what I needed. I was able to transfer all of my projects to Final Cut and bringing in new ones was a breeze. If you"re ramping up your ability to produce better video, this is the way to go
