I was pretty skeptical, but did quite a bit of research, and discovered that this vacuum was getting a lot of high marks from both consumer and professional reviewers. I've spent two and three times as much for lesser machines in the past. This one is by far the best we've ever used. It sucks up way more dirt than the Hoovers and Dysons we've had before. The only cons I've noticed are 1) it does not have great on-board storage for its accessories, particularly the "paw" device; 2) if you can call this a drawback, its suction is so strong that it takes a bit of effort pull it backward for the next pass. And we have to change the bag more often.
"Great Vacuum & more powerful"

I received this Eureka Vacuum by Fedex yesterday afternoon 11/10/09. I ran this vacuum and found it is more powerful than Hoover, Dyson, Electroux and other brands. I was happy that it did picks up lots of dirt from my carpet than my old vacuum cleaner Electrolux that left behind. This Eureka really did the job easy and does picks up cat hair, Wow! My parents used had an old Eureka back in the old days in the 30's until 1971. I was not satisfy with first three Electrolux which did quits and burn out before and after ten years of use. I did try out others Vacuum cleaners that I did not like. I did try out the Eureka last thing to try it and likes the way it does the job. Then I brought it. I'm happy that went back to the old days like the same Eureka does the job and now it's even more powerful than others vacuum on the market. Try one on any Eureka vacuum models and you will like it very much as I do. Brownbats
"Best vacuum I've ever owned -- saved the life of my carpet!"
My carpet is old but had finally gotten to the point where it was stained so badly, no matter how many times I cleaned it, the stains kept coming back, not matter what I tried, and I tried EVERYTHING! As a final last desperate act, I looked for a vacuum on Amazon, and after reading all the rave reviews on this one, I bought it -- and it worked! After vacuuming my carpets with this vacuum, I was finally able to get them clean with my steam cleaner. I guess my old vacuum was so feeble that it was leaving so much dirt in the carpet that the cleaner just couldn't do it's job efficiently -- I think with all that dirt in there (I have three huge dogs who live in the house, but love playing in the dirt and mud) trying to clean it was just making the stains worse. Now my carpets are finally clean again and I'm having to steam clean them only rarely, because this vacuum gets pretty much everything up to the point where I don't have to clean it so often! I was on the point of ripping my carpet out and buying new carpet, so this vacuum was WELL WORTH the price -- it gave my carpet a few more years lease on life!
"Great machine"

I am very happy with this vacuum. It picks up very well, and I think it's quiet compared to my old vacuum.
I do find that you have to get the carpet height setting right--if it isn't picking up well, it's likely set too LOW. Also, the foot button that releases the handle from the upright position is a little funky. I have to really work it and I'm afraid it will break one day.

I already owned one Eureka Boss sweeper and decided to purchase another one so I could have one upstairs and one downstairs. I had a Kirby sweeper and wound up hating it. The Eureka Boss has powerful suction, and having the hose and attachments on board ready to go is wonderful. I have asthma, and my doctor also recommended it.
"Good except. . .."

I thought I'd finally found a vacuum that didn't easily clog (because the dirt path is more direct into the bag) and pretty much did what I wanted. However, as others have noted the plastic does break. The release mechanism from the locked upright position to allow vacuuming is difficult to operate and does not appear to be of a very good design. It eventually broke. When I called the "800" number about service I found the nearest warranty service is about 130 miles away even though Eureka lists nine major stores selling its products in town. The other problem I found is that you can't talk to a live person: Eureka provides one number for "service" with four options and pressing "O" won't do any good. This is getting so typical of many companies. I won't deal with this attitude so its going back!
