Even a new unit would give the owner some issues, it ships without a charge on the battery, so without a usb cable you are stuck with having to charge the unit in the car first, and as it won't find a signal and you certainly can't register the unit or download maps until charged, really a dumb situation, when the usb cable is only 75 cents. As I had a spare camera usb cable I was able to charge it first, others without this cable will have an issue.

Once charged however, the Garmin registration and map download went as they described, though involved, and 5 hours later all was current.

The refurbished unit had 1 dead pixel, but not observable from a normal distance.

The 1 year warranty and free map and OS upgrade was a plus.

It's a Garmin. What else is there to say? Every GPS Garmin produces is top notch in durability, accuracy, and operation. I bought this nuvi 255W as a refurbished unit at a significant savings over the new price. But I think the unit I got is brand new. Not a blemish on it anywhere and all accessories had never been used.

I bought this as a wedding gift. After their honeymoon, the couple told me it was wonderful. They had updated the maps online before leaving on their trip, but at times when they were in the mountains the signal would get lost temporarily. They liked the fact that the voice would instruct them where to turn ("turn at 14th Street") instead of just saying "turn here." They like the fact they will be able to use it in Canada to visit family.

So far I love the new GPS system. WE have not used it much after purchase, but got on line and registered it and got new updates on maps and I am looking forward to using it in the near future. Should have had it long ago! I found it a real bargain through Amazon.com

My refurbished unit was flawless out of the box. I haven't had any issues with it after using it for two weeks. The screen was scratch-free. I managed to put a small scratch on it though while installing it in my Jeep. Great product and great price!

I have used other GPS divices in the past, and find that I am mauch happier with this one than I was the others. The divice works very well and gets a signal pretty much every where I have been. There was a small area in a densley populated area with a lot of trees over the road where I could not locate satalites, but it was less then a half mile before I found some. Also, once, I was driving on a highway that had been around for a long time, but had been recently widened and moved a couple hundred feet. While driving on the new section of the highway, the map showed that I was off roading. Overall, I think this is the best GPS device I've ever used.
