| I purchased this smoker about 8 months ago and have used it 6 times , the last time iused it the temp. fell to 153 . I called the company and they said it was in the digital control unit that they had them go bad and would send me a new one. So i asked how much a heating element was in case mine burned out they told me you could not buy one for that model. So buyer beware of masterbuilt . |

| I was in the market for a good quality electric smoker at a reasonable price. I did quite a bit of reading online and decided to go with the Masterbuilt Electric Smokehouse. I wanted an electric smoker mainly because I didn't want to put forth the effort into babysitting a fire, messing around with charcoal and wood trying to maintain that "perfect" temperature. Although I do consider it an art form, and had some really good times around a charcoal grill/smoker. But the ease of "plug and play" is hard to beat, I'd rather spend more time drinking and socializing while I cook these days. With the humidity level in FL...corrosion is a factor that's always at work. The Masterbuilt has a powdercoated finish...so it's going to last pretty much forever...very durable. It opens from the front...so you skip the hassle of "stacking" grates of food in a cylinder type smoker with a lid. It's a solid unit...it stood level right out of the box...no wobble. Of course there is adjustment for this. It was really easy to assemble. All the components fit together nicely...the only tool I needed was a screwdriver to attach the temp/timer control unit. It holds a consistent temp. +/- 5 degrees at the most. However when the door is opened...the temp will drop considerably, but heats up quickly once the door is closed again. So far I've done a few rounds of pulled pork (boston butt) and a brisket. Both of which turned out excellent! However, if you plan on cooking massive amounts of food...you'll need a smoker with more capacity. There are several videos on you tube for this smoker as well...be sure to check them out. |

I read a lot of reviews on the MES 30 smoker. There are a few negative reviews. Mainly to do with the wires on the element. Plenty of fixes online and from Masterbuilt.
The deal I got here was the best I could find and it was delivered quickly.
I love mine and have had many happy smokes with it so far.
I have two advisories.
1. Get seperate thermometor, like the ET-73. The MES is off a good bit.
2. Make sure to get the 20070910 model. It is better made. |

Used this smoker 3 weekends in the last month. Twice for babyback ribs and once for porkbutt. Works great. Plenty of smoke (for the ribs I added about 1 load of chips each hour for first 3 hours and then wrapped meat in foil for last 90 minutes). All three times have been very good, but yesterday's 6 racks of ribs (yes, I wrote "6 racks" which was about 18 lbs.) turned out the best of all.... a great relief when you have eight guests who are depending upon your results to be good. I've done a lot of reading on the net for technique and timing and that was very helpful.
Some reviewers have commented that they wish the smoker was larger and they had to cut racks of ribs in half to make them fit. I disagree. It takes a little manipulation of the spacing, but 2 3-lb. racks will fit on each shelf and still leave plenty of room for the smoke to circulate freely and completely around each rack.
I have compared the digital temperature control to a regular dial-style (stuck down the top through the vent) and found they both are normally within 3 degrees of each other when smoking in the 215 degree range. The only improvement I would like is to have the manufacturer incorporate a temperature probe which would read actual internal temperature of the meat when smoking portbutt or brisket.

| I thank the Smokehouse smoker works grate . I put in the wood chips and chicken for abouth 1 1/2 hours. and some of the best chicken you ever ate. Then we did some Spare Ribs for 2 1/2 Hours, good, good, good. you will like it. |

| This unit broke during the first use. The slider that holds the wood stuck inside the smoker and the handle broke off when trying to extract the slide. I did use the smoker to cook a brisket without smoke and it worked fine...held the correct temperature perfectly. Company I purchased from still has not answered my email. |
