I've used Vista 64-bit Home Premium for 2 months. Here's the problems:
* It locks up for no reason requiring re-boot;
* Often, re-booting fails as does time-consuming repairs, which can take hours;
* When repairs do work, you will find that many files are erased, requiring a reload of software (HP printer files seemed especially vulnerable.);
* Adobe Flash player and other software are not supported for the only 64-bit internet explorer (Videos won't play in Window's explorer.);
* Replacing software is expensive.
The best solution for the software incompatibility is to load Firefox. Fortunately, Vista 64 will allow compatible 32-bit software to run. When I find software that won't run on Window's 64-bit explorer I try it on Firefox, which says it will never convert to 64-bit.

| I rebuilt my computer and only had upgrade disc's which I found impossible to work, and I wanted to move on up to 64 bit, so I got this and it works fine for the 3 weeks or so until Windows 7 comes out. |

I installed VISTA 64-bit on a new hand-built AMD Phenom 9600 Quad Core with an ASUS M4N78 Pro MoBo with 8 Gig RAM... and the 64-bit works fine. It will not take some older MS programs, however with a clear message to that effect. Also I lost RegCure registry cleaner, which only works on VISTA 32-bit and is not configured for the 64-bit version due to the 64-bit VISTA yet being a much smaller market.
RegCure was prompt in providing me a refund for their separate product, however, as I was well within their 60-day limit for refunds on my new RegCure purchase for this new machine.
Also, it is my understanding from reviews that the new WIN-7 that I have ordered for this new QUAD-4 machine... will depend upon this VISTA Home Premium version to overload onto or update from or whatever... but that WIN-7 will, by its nature, then be a completely "new" installation and will require complete erasure of my Hard Drive... and I will have to save elsewhere all of my personal files... and reload all of my programs.
So that makes this VISTA a "required" but nevertheless a "temporary" OS until WIN-7. In these cases, just be sure you "match" your VISTA and WIN-7 versions... i.e., "Home Premium" with "Home Premium" etc.
Thus in summary, this was a good and necessary purchase, and Amazon delivered ahead of promised delivery, and with a good price.
And likely -- dependent upon what WIN-7 entails -- 64-bits and even greater will be the wave of the future; for once way back when, 16-bit was the super standard. |

I love it! the OS is pretty stable, pretty secure (if you use an internet security software)
people are talking s*** about it because of the following reasons:
1-they don't do updates! (some people dont have 24 hour internet connection)
2-they're using the "illeagly" cracked one or the downloaded from torrent sites!
3-OS installed in an old sh***y hardware.
Im not lying if I say that 90% of people in worldwide (or even north america) that does at least one of the listed above! and thats why they're pissed off and saying things that vista does NOT deserve to hear. however, the limitation of the OEM Pack is the limited hardware upgrades, if you upgraded your hardware too much (3 times as maximum) the activation code will stop working, the OEM pack is for IT's and system builders after all not ordinary users. other than that both verions are basicly the same. |

| The 64 bit windows works fine the problem with it is the key code will not be accepted for the $9.99 upgrade for windows 7 which defeats the reason i got it in the first place. If u just want the windows 64bit upgrade it's fine but if u want it so u can also upgrade to windows 7 for $9.99 then forget it. |

I did not know that a SECOND disk is required-a pre-installation disk. So, I formatted the hard drive forst, then, i LOADED the Windows 7 beta trial cd that I downloaded for free from Microsoft, which PRELOADED the necessary files, as if it were a pre installation cd, or dvd, whichever-it does not matter, it worked, as the files LOADED, then, I shut down the computer, NOY installing Windows 7, but INSTALLING the Vista Premium. It installed perfectly, and registered perfectly, with Microsoft. Activation was immediately sucessful. I am very happy with the LOW price, of 99. and this NEW INSTALLATION as it was eaqsy. I had to figure out tho0ugh, HOW to get it to install without a preinstallation cd, but I found out the preinstallation cd CAN BE ORDERED for free from Microsoft. I did not want to WAIT though.
I am NOT a COMPANY, or SMA:: BUSINESS. I rebuilt this computer, and put a new system into it. (I had lost the original cd, of xp )so I needed a new one, vista media center is PERFECT for this computer, as the upgrade advisor said. As always, I am happy with this purchase from amazon, as well as all my other purchasses. Amazon is so fast to fomd what your looking for, and so convenient. trustworthy also. |
