Here is what people are saying about the Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard (Update from 10.5)
5 Star Rating  "Mac OS X Snow Leopard Better Than Ever"2009-11-20
- Reviewed By User: A1654KXZ9CWKKI
I love this new os from mac, installed it on my macbook and liked the fact that it takes far less time to get it to work on my computer, it took about 40 minutes and also i got back aound 11 GB of hard drive. plus the sistem runs a whole lot smoother and you can not argue about the price.

4 Star Rating  "Worth It-- Generally"2009-11-19

I waited about a month to upgrade to Snow Leopard at since we had run into a host of problems at work with it. I've been running it on my person MacBook Pro for about two months now and I'm pretty satisfied. Things do seem to be a bit more seamless than in Leopard, the utilities work a bit better, cosmetically it's a bit smoother... generally it feels a bit more fine-tuned. However I have not noticed any change in speed or responsiveness. It did free up several gigs of hard drive space (8 gigs if I remember right?) however Finder soon fills that up with archival data to make the Spotlight and Finder functions run smoother/quicker.

The biggest drawback is still, several months later, is compatibility with some things. Many add-ons and fun things may not work with Snow Leopard (i.e. some of my favorite screen savers). Also, for those in a corporate or business environment, there are many compatibility issues with network servers, especially Exchange servers (I don't believe Snow Leopard and the previous version of Exchange play very nicely). I reverted back to and still use Leopard at work due to these issues.

For home use and small businesses, I highly recommend this update. It's cheap, it's easy, and it has enough little polishes that it's worth the $20 or $40. If you're in a corporate environment or are on any type of business network, check with your IT folks first. It will save you a lot of headaches in the end.

5 Star Rating  "A Much Better Leopard"2009-11-18
- Reviewed By User: A35NYQAQPFT23W
I have a MacBook that is a few years old and, just as with every major release of Mac OS X, my computer has seen a significant performance boost from the upgrade. The speed increases and improved UI in the Finder alone are well worth the cost of the upgrade alone: I used to have Finder tell me I couldn't eject a disk or network share because some application was using it, but I would have to figure out what. With Snow Leopard the Finder now tells me what is in use and give me the option to force eject a disk or network share.

I use Safari 4 as my primary browser, and on Snow Leopard you get crash resistance for plugins. Adobe has a well documented history of just not giving a damn about Flash performance on the Mac, and as such the plugin tends to crash often. Previously I would have several windows full of tabs open and a single flash ad would crash my entire session, but now bad plugins just crash themselves - you just need to reload the page for the plugin to reload and you don't have your entire browser crash!

Apple didn't do a very good job of trying to sell Snow Leopard but, to their credit, it is extremely difficult to sell upgrades where the changes are not immediately visible. I promise you that the enhancements in Snow Leopard are very noticeable when you sit down and use it for a few minutes.

4 Star Rating  "Still missing a few features"2009-11-17

They were supposed to fix the Mail app subscription issues. Still not working. Also, upgrading one of the machines didn't upgrade the libraries the correct way do Disk Utility and a few other Apple software are crashing on launch. Besides that, it is a lot smaller than 10.5 Not a necessary upgrade but a nice one if you are running out of space on your HD.

2 Star Rating  "Time Machine has flaws"2009-11-16
- Reviewed By User: A2FJZJA57315JN

I used Leopard for the longest time and was satisfied. Now I upgraded to Snow Leopard and my time machine no longer works and I can't get it to work either. I have a macbook pro and I used to have backups constantly through the network with an airport extreme with a hard drive connected to the extreme. Now my system can do an initial backup but then after that it can't mount the time machine, it gets Error 109. Lately I have been loving my apple products but this stings me the wrong way since I paid to go backwards. I have found no evidence either that it's being fixed.

3 Star Rating  "OK but has quirks"2009-11-12
- Reviewed By User: A26K4NJEC4OFZ2
I upgraded to Snow Leopard but wasn't all that impressed. There were not any noticeably fantastic changes in the system. The one huge negative I found was my macbook immediately started locking up if I tried to view videos or do more than one thing on the internet at a time. I would have to hard shut down to fix this problem.
After a call to tech support and walking through every known fix to them, (which I had already done) they informed me that they have had several calls about these things happen when networking with older computer systems because Snow Leopards improvements are ahead of all other equipment.
I don't know if that is true or if the tech support people just couldn't find a fix and gave up but I went back to my previous 10.5.8 and have had no problems since doing so.
