I am happy with my Acer AS 1410. The only things I wished for would be that it would run a little faster (better chip) and that Amazon would offer clients to choose XP. I don't like Vista and Windows 7 would mean trouble with periferals such as printers, scanners etc.
The pros are a strong wireless atenna, great in-built camera, small practical size and great battery life (trade off for 6 cell batteries is that it's a little more heavy). The larger screen and keyboard make it easy to use for someone my age (over 50). Also, the AC adapter is very small and light weight.
I recommend this nifty little computer for anyone who looks for something in between tiny netbooks and larger laptops. |

Pros: lightning fast, good battery life, great screen res, great size, very lightweight. Great all purpose netbook that has some power to it.
Cons: the the cover (outside of screen) smudges and scratches very easily. Also, they take FOREVER to ship windows 7 (i bought it pre release).
I would easily recommend it. |

| I purchased this laptop after a fair amount of research. I know that I wanted a smaller, portable laptop that we would use for general activities like web surfing, e-mail and the basics. This laptop is packed with an impressive set of specs. The screen was bright and sharp, it loaded up quickly and was quiet a cool running. However, I ended up returning it for a refund because after about a week of use, the touchpad started to become next to impossible to use. It was twitchy from the beginning. When I viewed web sites, it would occasional cause the brower's back button to activate, font sizes to increase or decrease and it almost acted like it had a mind of its own. Despite that we were planning to live with it but when it because next to impossible to use the touch pad, we returned it and will look for a slightly larger screen size. The cover was nice but showed finger prints immediately. Still a great machine for the price and wonderful features but not the right one for me. |

I bought this model because I wanted the portability and battery life of a netbook but also wanted the power to do a little more. It has exceeded my expectations. I have not run a continuous test to determine battery life but in real world use it seems to last at least 6 hours. My wife and I share it, she uses it during the day to check email and web surf mostly. I do the same at night. I think in the 2 weeks I've owned it I've only charged it 4 times.
The screen is awesome, the speed is great, and the performance beats my needs. I watched Hulu in HD (full screen) last night with no glitches. I'm convinced my WiFi connection is the bottleneck not the computer.
The fan is quiet and I have not noticed it getting hot at all. I generally use the balanced or power saver mode.
The flat keys on the keyboard take a few minutes to get comfortable with but I have had no trouble since the first day or so. I have run Excel and Word and they seem much faster to open than on my work laptop which is a newer Dell Latitude.
If you are only surfin the web, you probably can use the Intel Atom version of this ACER, but if you want to watch online video, or do some more intense apps the extra $$ are worth it. Watch out though, there is now a version with a Celeron M processor. It likely will have shorter battery life and less power. Mine uses the Core 2 Solo Processor (ULV SU3500). The Celeron version is cheaper but you give up something for that extra $$.
I have not yet loaded the free Windows 7 upgrade or uninstalled all the freebies it comes with. Both of these should improve the performance further although I don't think I'll notice since it seems fast enough already.
Before buying this unit I also considered the Lenovo Ideapad S12 and others in the 11-12 inch range.

I have owned this computer for the past month. Its a great little laptop that can do almost anything. I got it for $399 through J&R when it was on sale.
Pros - Screen Size - 11.6 Inch screen is so much better than the other ones out there. Its sharp and great
for watching movies. The screen is very glossy which can be a bad thing and the viewing angle is not
as good as it can be.
Battery Life - I'm not getting the 6 hours plus that other people are reporting but I don't bother to lower the
screen brightness or anything like that. It's long enough that I don't have to lug around the power
cord everywhere.
1080p Video Playback - Now this is awesome. The machine couldn't play HD content when running Vista but once I
upgraded to Windows 7 it plays back HD content. Its not going to be the best picture that you are going to get
but it is totally viewable with very little stutter.
HDMI Output - You won't get a HDMI output on other netbooks. This output is a nice feature as it reduces the
clutter when you are viewing online content on your TV Screen.
Windows 7 - Free Upgrade! Enough said. I love windows 7. I have two Macs and Windows 7 has features that
surpasses Mac OS X. Besure to download the latest driver from Synaptic. It allows you to do multitouch
gestures as in Mac. Not quite as smooth and seamless as in the Mac but it it 90% there. Besides with
driver updates i'm sure it will get really close.
Processor - Much faster than other Netbooks out there. 1.4gig Solo processor will not win any speed awards
but with Windows 7 it is very liveable. I don't do any heavy processing besides watching HD movies so it
works for me. All the features of Windows 7 including transparencies, windows flip can be used on this
machine.
Size - This platform is a perfect balance between portability and usability. My dad has a Lenovo S10 and
I can't use it cause it is too small. Keyboard Screen all too small. This laptop can be used all day
and you won't get tired from it.
Easy Upgradeability - Memory compartment and the HardDrive compartment are very easily accessible.
I upgradeded to 4gigbytes and the performance is much better.
Cons - Keyboard - Its easy to type on but they have semi large spaces between the keys that allows debris to get
underneath and get stuck underneath the keys. So if you eat around your computer be very careful.
Touch Pad - A little bit too small and you can't really see where it starts and ends cause its the same color.
Slight texture difference but thats it.
Graphics Card - You won't be playing any heavy duty games on this machine. A good thing since I don't play
any games.
All in all. Its an awesome value. Especially since I got a free upgrade to Windows 7. This OS really makes this machine
so much better. I recommend this machine over the netbook competition.
