"SD780IS--best compact camera for the money."

As an experienced and picky photographer, I'll try to be fair, objective, and to the point.
The bottom line is this is a great compact digital camera for the price. It takes great photos when set up right--auto-mode produces less-than-desired results (typical for "auto" set ups") as they tend to be overexposed and lacking in color. Perfectly normal for auto. Use "P" mode and tune as desired. The lens isn't that wide--I believe it's a 28mm on 35mm equivalent, but it's certainly wide enough for most uses. The lens is sharp but does have distortion at its widest end. Avoid taking photos of really defined horizons such as the ocean/sky.
One issue I have with this camera is the durability. After light-to-moderate use, the paint is either thinning, or rubbing and chipping off. I only had it a few months and it already looks beat and battered, especially when next to my friend's 3-year old panasonic point and shoot which he uses a lot more than I use my camera and it looks almost new. Another friend has this exact same camera for about the same time ( a few months ) and it too is chipping, peeling, etc.

Its a great camera in every level.. I gave it a 4 only because the shooting time is still slow.. by the time camera takes the pic, the event you are taking is over... but the delay is better than the camera I used have..

Great camera for what it is... small, inexpensive and stylish. I carry it when going out at night with friends, and anytime I even think I might want a picture... It is so small that I forget it is there! Night shots, image stability are not the best, but Im still learning how to use it to get the best pics in those conditions. For the $200 it is a really small, fast, well built camera. I was particularly excited about the rounded corners... after having a SD1200 (ex took it), my thigh was bruised from the sharp corners.

Its a very slim camera. Picture quality is good. Since it is very small one, hard to press the buttons. Overall its a very good camera.
