| I've had this TV for about 5 weeks. I love the picture, but I'm at my breaking point with the subtle but persistent buzzing tone it emits. My wife tells me she can tune it out, but I cannot. It's an underlying buzzing drone...like the hum of a bug zapper. It's a week past its return limit, so I guess I will have to learn to live with it. What a shame. |

This is a great TV. Had it installed on the wall in the bedroom with the Peerless slim mount. Picture is fantastic, using Direct TV. Added a Vizio soundbar and Oppo Blue Ray player. I am very sensitive to ambient noise and there is absolutely
no buzz with this TV. Very satisfied and I used South Florida installers Miami Wired who are first rate. Could not be happier with the purchase. |

This television is quite simply at the head of the class for 2009. The design is phenomenal, the aesthetics are stunning, and the performance (picture quality, black level, colors, video processing, etc.) has only ever been matched by two televisions in history. Those televisions are the Panasonic V10 and the Pioneer Elite. The Pioneer Elite 60 inch was triple the price of this television, and the V10 is at least $500 more.
This television easily defeats (by a wide margin) the V10 in terms of color saturation, colar accuracy, bright room performance, design, and features. The V10 claims a narrow victory in black level. (Although this television handily defeats the V10 in black level while viewing in bright room, and practically matches the black levels in a completely darkened room. The black level on this television is phenomenal. Blacks are inky deep black, realistic, and endless, while shadow delineation and detail is vastly superb when compared to the V10) This television claims wide victories over the Pioneer in terms of design, features, and aesthetics, while matching the Pioneer in terms of color saturation, color accuracy, and bright room performance. The Pioneer only claims any kind of noticeable victory in terms of black level in a completely darkened room. The bottom line: This is simply the very best television in the 60 in. class when you factor in all aspects. When the V10 can only claim a narrow victory in terms of black level in a completely darkened room, and the Pioneer only owns a decent edge in terms of black level in a completely darkened room, it's pretty obvious that overall, this is the best television to buy out of the 3. If you don't care about color saturation and accuracy, and you never ever watch blu-ray's or high def sports in bright lighting, and you care about black level only, buy the V10 and you will still only have a miniscule advantage. If money is no object, you don't care that Pioneer no longer manufactures televisions, and you can find one, buy the Pioneer. Otherwise, there is simply no better television available today, period!
Even Samsung's acclaimed B8500 LED backlit LCD television has terrible off angle viewing and blooming issues. So, if you live alone, and you are definitely only going to ever be watching television from dead center right in the sweet spot, buy the new B8500. (Just try to pretend you don't see the blooming in dark scenes) If you live with family and often have people over to watch sports and blu-ray's, you aren't always going to be sitting dead center in the sweet spot, don't get the B8500. Buy this, as it is definitely your best bet. |

Update - 11/13/2009: You can't change the star rating on Amazon. However, if you could, I would lower the star rating on this television to either 1 star or 2 stars. This television began experiencing a multitude of problems as the first 10 days passed. My initial review was based on my first impression of the television. However, the television is now experiencing a terrible LCD like flashlighting problem. Plasma's don't have a back light, so I don't even know how this could be possible, but in completely darkened scenes while viewing a film, or when their is no input signal, there is a lot of light being emitted from the sides of the screen as well as two prominent vertical bars just to the right of center. This is extremely upsetting and distracting. How can a plasma have light leaking in through the panel when their is no backlight? The television is also humming, buzzing, or whirring depending on the content and input being displayed. I am an owner of a 50 inch Panasonic V10 and it does not make a sound. I have owned it for about 4 months and it is completely silent. I know that some plasma's hum a little bit, but this is quite loud and disturbing. It is not a pleasant noise at all. This television is clearly defective. I am going to have it replaced with a new 860 and hopefully none of these problems will exist. If they do, I will replace it with a completely different television or get a full refund and return it. I will post an update. |

Save yourself the hassle of buying and returning this product if you care at all about a very annoying buzz that is very noticeable from a distance of even 10-12 feet. I could hear the buzz during low volume TV dialogue and it is very disruptive. In addition, if anyone in your household has sensitive hearing, the buzz will aggravate the problem. My ears would literally be hurting after being in the same room as this TV after a few hours.
I could not take it anymore and returned the set. The technician that Samsung sent out kind of chuckled and said that he could not do anything about the problem. |

After years of enjoying my Mitsubushi WS55819 RPT I decided it was time to part. All my other equipment was paired with HDMI 1.3 and I could not take advantage of what HDMI offers (let alone the amazing advances in picture quality and energy savings) I spent a great deal of time researching and viewing several plasma and LCD televisions (I loath viewing televisions at big box stores. all the sets need to be calibrated to make viewing an objective observation). After research and observations I chose the Samsung PN58B860. By purchasing the HDTV thru Amazon I saved enough money to pay for it to be calibrated. I decided I had paid to have the best, it seemed silly not to spend a little more money to provide the best video output the television can offer. I had David Abrams from AVICAL calibrate my plasma tv. He has a long and impressive referance list. David charged $300 to calibrate and $60 for travel (I live 120 miles away from LA and it was on his tour schedule). To be sure it did need calibrating and I can tell you my magnificent picture became even clearer, the colors more outstanding, and the darks as dark as midnight on a moonless night. The telvision is paired with an ONKYO TX-SR876 Receiver (purchased thru Amazon), OPPO Blue-Ray Disc Player Model No. BPD-83 and an Oppo DVD Player Model No. DV-983 (purchased thru Amazon), Bright House HD Cable DVR, Paradigm Monitor 9 front speakers, CC-370 Center cahnnel, ADP-370 surrounds (side and back). I have no regrets about my purchase of the set and I know it will deliver years of entertainmnet to my family and friends...oh, and of course me!
