"Samsung PN50B860 ...no buzzing noise ... Fantastic !!!" | 2009-11-16 |

Have watched this one for over 3 weeks no. So far so good. No buzzing noise. If I put my ear 2-4 inches from the screen, there is a humming sound, which I think is normal for all plasma TV. I am not using it in a media room so not an issue.
My set is in a bright south-facing family room. It sits next to a 12 ft wide window. The reflection is tolerable during the day. The screen coating must have done a good job.
I have considered other flat panel sets, plasma, LCD (LED back lighting/local dimming included), this set is just far superior in the key performance areas that I put most weights on:
- Image quality at high/low light (color accuracy and deep black with some minor adjustment)
- Minimal degradation at wide viewing angle (more than 50 degree)
- Good representation of fast moving objects
- Ability to play mpeg-4/H.264 avi video clips. It works great with my Sanyo camcorder's 1920x1080 60p fps clips.
Set up Burn Protection right away out of the box. After 150 - 200 hrs use, it should be taken care of. It runs a little hotter than LED LCD TV but not a huge issue in a large family room. The style looks elegant while not bold.
In my opinion, it is simply the best looking and performing flat panel set at 3K and below. Amazon's price makes it an even sweeter. just in time for holidays.

"What's the buzz, tell me what's a happening?" | 2009-10-29 |

ok, enough with the Jesus Christ Superstar references.
I am the proud new owner of the 860. I still got my sony 55 inch LCD projection, which i love, upstairs. It was time to go Blu Ray though and that set is only 1080i, so, i fell for it and upgraded. Must add though that i paid less than half...half of what i paid for the sony nearly 5 years ago...crazy.
on to my review.
first off its awesome. just got done watching the new Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, and want to stay up up night watching blu ray movies.
i am not a videofile, so let me just speak as the father of two, slightly above average tech guy that i am.
easy setup, great picture, got sound connected to surround sound system, so no complaints.
regarding the BUZZ, i got a long yawner of a story, with heroes and villians, about how i had to return the first tv. in the end all i can say is piss off retailer, thanks for all the help Samsung, they were good.
from the previous drama mentioned, i had a samusung service rep out yesterday (on the old tv) and spoke about the BUZZ (of which there was none on the old set) and he mentioned that you can place felt tape along the bottom (inside) to help with the sound. he told me that if i got a new tv and there was a buzz to contact samsung and they would be out soon. guess what i am doing tomorrow?
that being said, i only notice the buzz when there is no sound whatsoever. so unless i am wathcing a charile chaplin movie, or a documetary on mimes, i am sure i'll be just fine. i feel bad that others have had trouble, but i currently have the tv on volume number 0 and am sitting 10 feet away with no buzz. what else can i say?
hope this helps, i also wrote a review on the Samsung mount (good by the way), so if you are in need, check it out.
one complaint i do have though. you spend all this money on a new tv, and you have to drop another $75 to make it wireless.
that's weak. seriously.

"Amazing video quality, but buzzing was too much to bear" | 2009-10-28 |

I have had Samsung monitors and other devices in the past and trust the quality of their products. I checked this monitor out at three local electronics stores and found the video quality to be amazing and heard no buzzing, as has been reported in many of the reviews. I ordered the product from Amazon as they had the best price I could find at the time. Unfortunately, after setting it up and turning it on, I heard the buzz mentioned by other reviewers. It is not a hum, but a loud buzz, which is audible even when turning the audio of the TV above 50 (out of 100). With normal levels of listening (for me, it is from 10 to 15 out of 100), the buzzing drowns out anything else I am listening too. It was too much for me, so I called Samsung to get it fixed. The service rep called me to discuss the issue and said that what I was hearing was normal for plasma TVs. This simply isn't the case, as I have several friends and family with plasma TVs and have never heard this buzzing before. Also, none of the store models had the buzzing (I went back for a second listen). I spoke with another rep from Samsung and he said that the Samsung models all have the same buzzing. They said that they could come out and replace parts to see if it would fix the issue, but guaranteed me it would be the same. I decided against it and returned the TV to Amazon. If you order this TV be warned that you may get an annoying buzzer instead of an incredible TV, which this would be if it weren't for the buzz.
Aside from that, setup was easy and the menu system is great and logical. It was easy to connect to the internet and games and movies look amazing on it. Too bad all the great features are drowned out by one issue! |

"Great Picture, super slim......BUZZZZ and poor quality control." | 2009-10-26 |

| I had three of these from Amazon with varying degrees of Buzzing and with various inputs not working. Samsung may have pushed the limits getting this TV so slim. I really like the TV (hence the three trys) it looks much better on the wall as it is so thin. The buzzing on this set is variable so there may be some sets out there that are OK, but only one of mine was close to acceptable and that had broken inputs. I went with the PN50B650, still quite slim at 3.5 inches and still the same great picture. As with all plasmas there is still some Buzz, but not loud enough to spoil your viewing enjoyment. I am much happier with the 650 and have had no problems so far. I saved $500 into the bargain. |

"What's all the Buzz?" | 2009-10-25 |

I recently bought this TV from BB after doing research that drove me nuts. CNET is a good site. Let me start buy saying that I own 4 LCD Tvs(3-sony,1-samsung)so this is my first plasma. After settling on a Plasma, I narrowed it down to three. One Panasonic, Sony and Samsung. This wasn't the TV I went there for but after seeing the picture I was in shock. I really don't know if a TV picture could be any clearer. The look of the TV is also awsome as are the features, such as the Widgets.
Now all the fuse. This TV does buzz but its so low that I have to walk up to the set and put my ear next to it. The room its in is 12 x 12 so I sit about 7 feet away and can hear nothing at all. Even when I muted the sound I could barley hear the buzz. All I can say is go look at the other TVs and this set will stand out. The only con I have is with BB and Samsung. For the price of this set they could have included the Wireless USB adapter. Its only $79 but did get it for 60 at an online site. The salesman at BB swore that it was included. When I realized it wasnt several days later I didn't feel like going back and arguing for the part. That's my fault. If you by the set and have a wireless router you'll need the adapter to use the internet options(widgets) which are pretty cool. Oh and the set was on for 4 hours in my room and the heat was minimal. People act like you'll get burned by the screen. |
