The game is fantastic, and a lot of fun, but it is pretty short. The story mode can be finished in under 5 hours. There will be a ton of DLC, but each DLC album is going to be $13-$16, so that will add up fast.

Like everything released under the Beatles brand, this special edition of Rock band leads the rest of the pack.

The whole package feels like they took their time and got it right.

I played the game first all the way through solo on lead guitar, then played it through with friends who basically stuck to one member of the band, occasionally swapping instruments for fun. Both times, I enjoyed it immensely.

I can't honestly think of any other band that could keep me interested the whole way through the game - the music is just that diverse and consistently excellent. At times, you are reminded of just how mind blowing some of this material can be.

As with every Beatles branded product, the attention to mixing and sound quality is outright superb. Many of the 'clanger' noises to indicate that the player has faulted have been softened or omitted in this version, out of respect to not distracting too much from the music. It's a lesson to other editions of Rock Band and Guitar Hero - you don't need to overdo the extraneous sounds to convey the game play. The 'No Fail' mode is great too, as in many groups of four players, there is usually a weak one who doesn't want to feel that they are screwing everyone else's good time.

Having said that, the game has been made much easier than other editions of Rock band and I assume the intention was i) to appeal to a more general audience than hard core gamers, ii) to let kids play and iii) to act as an introductory experience to Rock band games.

As for the song selection, I don't envy the job of whoever had to whittle the Beatles' career down to 45 songs. The game is maybe a little short, but there will be lots of downloadable content so it's not really a drama. It took our little 'group' around 5-6 hours to play the game right through in story mode, which was heaps of fun.

Obviously masses of great tracks are missing but the 45 chosen are a really fine selection of mostly hits, some dark favourites and some nice surprises. You really don't feel like you've missed out on anything at the end, rather, that a world of possibilities just opened.

For purists, the game is interesting because it pretty much sticks to the 'early days' Beatles setup of George on lead, Paul on bass, John on Rhythm and Ringo on drums/percussion, even as you progress into the more experimental period of their late 60's material. Beatles fans of course know that after the first 3 albums the band setup involved a lot of swapping instruments between band members and complex setups etc. The game, for simplicity's sake wisely ignores this. For example, Ringo is pictured drumming 'Back in the USSR' but Beatles nuts know that he had walked out on the band before the recording of that song and that Paul played drums on that tune. Similarly, you will find yourself playing 'I Want You (She's so heavy)' on the rooftop of abbey road studios during the famous 'Let it Be' gig - this, of course never happened. The version of 'Tommorow Never Knows/Within you Without you' is the mash-up from the remix LOVE album and you'll find yourself sometimes playing keyboard lines on your guitar in songs like 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds'. But every decision that was made here 'feels' right and creatively sound. In fact, I honestly believe that they are superior creative decisions than if the game had tied itself too inflexibly to history. Thankfully, the ill-advised Beatles reunion records of the mid-nineties were ignored also, not because they were terrible, but they were simply mediocre, something the Beatles as produced by George Martin were NEVER guilty of.

Harmonies are new and probably, from a gameplay point of view, the freshest and most challenging aspect of this edition. And they suit the Beatles music to a tee. And each song begins with some superb, crisp, rare studio chat mostly from the recording of that actual song. It really puts you in that time and place.

A special note to McCartney fans (and critics). He is the hardest group member to play here and you'll learn through playing his parts why he is regarded by musicians as one of the greatest and most innovative of bass players.

This game really does add beautifully to the legacy of the world's most celebrated band. For lifelong fans, they may even find themselves marveling at how they are now actually listening intently to individual instrument parts and discovering a new love of this music from over 40 years ago. If you'd heard about this Beatles thing, but wonder what all the fuss is about, or if you've poured over every note for your whole life, I envy you. You're about to experience something new and wonderful.

Love it. Love it. Love it. My 6 year old and all her friends love it, too. Too bad Rock band 2 doesn't have the great video that Rock Band Beatles does. Why the hell am I typing this when I could be playing Rock Band Beatles? Must be the Rahr & Sons beer.

As a video gamer and a fan of The Beatles, this Rock Band title is one I was eagerly awaiting. After playing it and completing it, it is clear that the game is aimed at fans of The Beatles and potential newcomer Beatle fans that have never played a Rock Band/Guitar Hero game. Important to note, I used a Playstation 3 Rock Band 2 Special Edition guitar and the Guitar Hero World Tour Band Bundle for PlayStation 3 band kit to play this game and all of them worked ok with no compatibility issues at all.

The cinemas, from the very opening sequence that was published in the web before release date to the final one at 'The End' are just incredible. Well designed, with easter eggs like those in the 'Free as a bird' video, they retell the story of the band, the story mode is divided in levels to play, each accompanied by its respective and nostalgic cinema display, the Cavern, the Ed Sullivan show, the Shea Stadium, the Budokan, all the famous places are here. The final levels in studio are accompanied by psychedelic landscapes each fit to the song being played . Visually the game is stunning, it is so well designed and it has so many details that I found it distracting sometimes, you wish you could stop playing just to be able to watch the band perform in the game.

The track selection is pretty good too, while there are many hits missing in the 45 song track list, the ones that made it into the game are classics and represent a challenge when playing the, for instance, I've heard people complain about 'I me mine' being included, truth is, when playing in hard, it is a real challenge playing the song with the guitar controller (it is so satisfying when you finally master it) The track selection should not be a problem at all for fans of the group. On a side note, the mastered audio for the game sounds way better than the remastered CD versions in my opinion, the quality and clarity is impeccable, it reminded me of the 5.1 mix released with Love (CD + Audio DVD), with the difference that the game does include original versions unlike the mixes created for the Cirque Du Soleil show. Additionally, the game includes studio recordings of the band chatting before and after a song is completed, some of those recordings unavailable until today.

The game supports trophies, for those of us gamers who like the challenge of collecting and unlocking items in the games. You also collect photos that you accumulate to obtain hidden tracks or additional videos. The fist downloadable content was released on 10/22, the remaining songs to complete the Abbey Road album, while I found it to be a little pricey for the amount of songs offered (more expensive than buying the actual remastered Abbey road remastered CD), I can't deny it was a pleasure to be able to play the famous Abbey Road medley. Future releases have been announced for the rest of the year, the remaining songs for 'Rubber Soul' and 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'

The downsides: the difficulty level and the calibration tool included. The difficulty level is incredibly low, the medium difficulty for instance feels like playing in easy using four buttons in other similar games; the only real challenge for me, as a player familiar with this kind of games, was in hard difficulty . I can understand this may have been done as an attention to the newcomers that will play a Rock Band game for the first time, I just thought I'd mention it.
The calibration tool included was a nightmare! I calibrated the game to earn the calibration trophy and ended up messing the game, I tried to recalibrate and every single time I tried the problem was worse, I researched on the web and found a lot of users in the same situation so I don't think it was a user problem, I ended up finding a video wit instruction on how to manually calibrate the game, it was more difficult but the end results paid off. I am giving you a heads up in case you do want that trophy, well, be prepared for the consequences.

All in all, a great game and without a doubt, a must for Beatle fans .

We have all the Rock Bands and this one is the hottest. It hits all the levels of fun with my kids ages 7 to 16. It has a great range of easy to hard. The graphics are the best yet and we love this one for sure.
