"Best of the Halo Games"

You are not playing as Master Chief in this one but as "The Rookie" in a group of elite Orbital Drop Shock Troopers. Game Play is completely different with the VISR mode, no radar, and no energy shield to protect you. Great story line that plays out in the middle of Halo 3 and lots of things to do besides shooting covenant foes (which never gets old). Only complaint is the story seems to be over too quickly, but you can take care of that by playing a higher difficulty level.
This is my favorite of the HALO series, but we'll see if that changes when Reach gets here.

I'm just going to cover the campaign.
The campaign for ODST really disappointed me. This is the first Halo game that felt like a chore to get through, which is funny since it's fairly short.
Problems:
-The lighting is terrible. A lot of it takes place at night, and you're supposed to use your visor, which highlights edges of objects or something. Either way, it's either too dark or too bright. And the brightness settings in the menu don't help that.
-The health system. I'm actually fine with the way they did the stamina/health pack thing, but whenever you lose even just a tiny bit of health, it beeps until you get a health pack. Probably the most obnoxious thing I've ever encountered in a video game. Totally unnecessary.
-The levels where you are walking around the empty, dark, repetitive city drain all sense of excitement and curiosity. I don't know how they thought this was a good idea.
-The story, characters, and dialogue are all bland as could be. I did not care about a single element of what was happening, which made playing through it a thankless experience.
-They introduced a new weapon to Halo games: the silenced SMG. And you get to use it for about two minutes total, since it runs out of ammo and there is no extra ammo anywhere for it. What's the point?

I have enjoyed this game immensely. The replayability is incredible & the graphics are awesome.
I have to say that being someone other than the Master Chief was cool also. The only thing I dislike about the game is how an ordinary human can go toe-to-toe w/ a brute & win. In the videos it clearly shows that it takes a whole squad to take down a brute chieftain in close combat so why can one ODST do so in game play?
Other than that I absolutely love the focus on stealth & the more tactical thinking required. It's not so easy to wade into the middle of a covenant war host & walk away w/o a scratch when you're not a cyborg.
