Product Description
With the advent of the latest 15X zoom lens from Tamron, the pioneer of high power zoom lenses, the high power zoom lens has steadily evolved from a 7.1X to a 10.7X to a 13.9X and now to the worlds largest zoom ratio of 15X by combining advanced high power zoom design technologies accumulated by Tamron since 1992. The lens covers an angle of view equivalent to that of a 28mm wideangle to a 419mm ultra telephoto with just one lens, letting the user capture once-in-the-lifetime images of panoramic landscape images or close-up pictures of children smiling, without having to get too close to the subject and without having to change lenses.

Editorial Review
Camera shake can ruin your photos, particularly when taking telephoto shots or shooting in low light conditions. The Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 macro zoom lens, however, fights camera shake with its state-of-the-art vibration compensation (VC) mechanism, which delivers blur-free handheld images for incredible results. The proprietary VC mechanism employs a three-coil system that moves the VC lens electromagnetically based on signals originating from the movement of three steel balls. The lens element that compensates for vibration is held in place by the balls, so there is little friction and the movement is quite smooth. The end result is a technology that makes it possible to create exceptional images at slower shutter speeds under conditions where a tripod used to be necessary. You can also use subject movement to good effect with the lens, bringing out the contrast between motion and stillness, or shoot without a flash to evoke the genuine atmosphere of the scene. The lens covers an extremely broad range of focal lengths, from an extra-wide 18mm length to a telephoto 270mm length (the 35mm equivalent of 28mm to 419mm). The resulting 15x zoom ratio is the world's largest, representing a wide cross section of Tamron high-power zoom design technologies. Plus, the vibration compensation works throughout the entire zoom range, giving you the freedom to create a wide variety of images. The lens lets users capture once-in-a-lifetime panoramic landscape images or close-up pictures of children smiling, all without getting too close to the subject or changing lenses. Other details include a macro magnification range of 1:3.5, a minimum focusing distance of 19.3 inches, and a 72mm filter diameter. The lens, which measures 3.1 inches in diameter and 3.9 inches long, carries a six-year warranty.

Here is what people are saying about the Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical IF Macro Zoom Lens for Canon DSLR Cameras
5 Star Rating  "First non-kit lens delivers"2009-11-17
- Reviewed By User: A13AXJCPHZAEG7
I took the non-kit route and bought a house and this lens separately. After weeks of searching the web and reading far too many reviews for the perfect all-purpose lens, I couldn't resist the range and price of this lens. An 18-270mm at this price and with such good reviews was hard to pass up. The photos have been phenomenal and the VC (vibration compensation) works better than expected. Aside from a stiff zoom range that has subsided with usage and the occasional lens creep that can be prevented with a lens lock, this lens has been the jewel I'd hoped for and has delivered.

5 Star Rating  "Tamron AF 18-270mm"2009-11-05
- Reviewed By User: A31E07F8WBO5PU
I recently bought this lens to use on my Rebel XSi after weeks of searching and reviewing various other lenses. The lenses I was originally considering were both Canon, 24-105 f4 IS and 24-70 f2.8. Both over $1000 and undeniably excellent lenses.
However, I'm not a pro photographer, nor do I have (or plan to get) a full-frame camera in the near future. So after much deliberation I went for the Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC, to use on an everyday basis for all eventualities. So far I have been extremely happy with the lens. Yes there is the zoom creep when the lens is pointing down, but there is a lock! I've not experienced slow focus in low light, in fact I've been pretty impressed with its speed.
Image quality, for me, is excellent. The zoom range is fantastic and the VC works extremely well (I've taken some sharp pictures at shutter speeds as low as 1/15 sec!).
This lens also comes with a $[...] rebate, and much to Tamron's credit, I received a check within a couple of weeks (un-like some other rebate offers where I have waited months and had to chase companies constantly. Thanks Adobe!)
So for a keen amateur this lens has proved to be excellent. And for a price of $[...] after rebate I'm pleased I made this choice.

3 Star Rating  "Big, hard to zoom. bad lens creep"2009-10-30
- Reviewed By User: AZQX9OYDQW06U
This zoom was too big, in my opinion, for a Canon Rebel XT. Zooming was hard about mid-way...drove me nuts. Lens creep was very bad, when I went to review pictures out the lens went. Decided to return the lens and ended up buying a Canon 55-250.

5 Star Rating  "Great lens"2009-10-17
- Reviewed By User: AI3FPKX8E6A3D
I bought this lens for my Canon 50D and I truly do love it. I am using the Canon 28-135 for other things, but I really do like this lens as a great casual lens. I do use this for sports and vacations and even used it on a model photoshoot and got great results. I would definitely recommend this lens. For the price and quality, it's a great buy.

5 Star Rating  "Does exactly what it says on the packet."2009-10-14
- Reviewed By User: A1WDOH0VP5CW5X
If you like the idea of only needing one lens, plan to take plenty of high zoom images where stability is important and are happy to accept a few modest quality trade-offs, this really is the terrific buy.

I bought this lens as an upgrade to the Tamron 18-200 which has been my walkabout lens for the past year. I'm only a hobby photographer but had become aware of how many wasted shots I had due to camera shake, plus I found I was very often "reaching" for as much zoom as possible (when photographing wildlife etc) but I really liked the 18mm starting point for landscapes. I wasn't wedded to buying another Tamron but after doing quite a bit of Googling, Binging & forum trawling I kept coming back to the 18-270, so I sold off my old one on Kijjiji, and went back to the well.

The key points you might like to know are:
Great flexibility of zoom makes it ideal for holiday travel, walkabout stuff and people like me who are just a wee bit lazy.
Overall, very nice quality shots, although if you look at some of the quality achieved by the more "professional" lens ranges, such as Canon's L series, I think you can see a difference, but unless you are getting really serious (and like me perhaps a bit nerdy) I doubt you'll be aware of it 95% of the time.
The "VC" really is a marvel, when at full zoom, I've gone from say 50%+ of shots being ruined by "the shakes" to hardly any. I sometimes feel like I am in one of those US Air strike videos when they "lock on" to the target before obliteration. Just think of it, all the fun of being George Bush without any of the collateral damage.
For the price of around $650, it sits really well in that "middle ground" before things start to get wincingly expensive and hard to justify if you aren't doing this for a living.

It has a few quirks that I have noticed so far; one is that under certain light/subject conditions it really "hunts" and fails to auto-focus. when this happens try aiming elsewhere, and it might well settle down when you go back to your subject! A shade annoying but it won't ruin your day. The other thing is it does have a certain stiffness as you rotate the barrel to zoom, a little bit like you are pushing an orange through your granny's stockings, which can feel a little odd (in both cases, especially if she is still in them)

I never normally write reviews but given that thus far its done everything it said on the packet I felt Tamron deserved the pat on the back for making a reasonably priced, good quality lens that 90% of hobby photographers would really enjoy owning.

Happy snapping.

LOVE this lens! I wanted to replace the 18-55 with a walk-around lens with a wider range. This one is perfect! It took a bit to get used to the extra weight, but now I have no problems. I am getting much better quality photos than with the kit lens and I love that it came with a hood.
