Overall, the product lived up to it's expectation. The controls take a little getting used to but once you familiar, it's easy to use.
The light turns on 30 minutes before the alarm is to sound. If set to the maximum setting, the light will easily light up the room. I find that I sleep better at night knowing that the alarm is not just about to sound any second. As a result, I look at the time less. With the bright light in the room, I wake much easier.
After 20 days of use, the light on my initial model quit working. Thankfully, I am still in my return period to Amazon and received my replacement last night. Hopefully, the second one will fair much better. |

"Not a goLITE" | 2009-11-19 |

I am a very happy owner and a regular user of Philips goLITE. I thought that the Wake-up Light would be a perfect supplement of light therapy in the morning.
I am disappointed. The highest brightness level of the Wake-up Light is nowhere near comparable with the goLITE. I am a heavy sleeper and the Wake-up Light does not manage to wake me and the light does not make feel any more awake than usual, when I do. Which I understand perfectly, as how could I benefit from its light with my eyes closed.
All in all I think it is a very expensive alarm clock. Those looking for a cure of winter blues should definitely consider a goLITE instead. |

"Poorly manufactured product" | 2009-11-11 |

| Be warned. I have gone through two of these in so many months and am now waiting to receive my third (under warranty for replacement but beyond the point for a cash refund). Both times the light has failed. I believe this product is inherently poorly designed and problem prone and would reinforce other reviews that say that controls are unnecessarily complicated. I enjoyed the wake up light function...while it worked (sarcasm). All I can do now is hope the third one works without problem. This product could be improved with the inclusion of a back-up battery in case of power outages, and of course correcting the electrical problem that causes the light to die prematurely. |

"This Little Light Of Mine... A Great Way To Wake Up In The AM or Go To Sleep In The PM!" | 2009-11-09 |

I have been using the Philips Wake-Up Light for a little over a month now and can honestly give this product a 5 out of 5 stars. The Philips Wake-Up Light is much more than a combination alarm clock and light. It TRULY is a DAWN and DUSK simulator. The Philips Wake-Up Light wakes you up in a natural way, by a light that increases gradually for 30 minutes that simulates the sun rising. I have REALLY found it extra beneficial since the "falling back" of Daylight Savings Time here in Ohio and on any gray or rainy day. This product is not to be confused with "light therapy" products for seasonal affective disorder. Check out Philips Go-Lite Blu for SAD.
The product has a built-in digital FM radio that lets you wake up to your favourite songs or news station every day. Just select your favourite radio station, and at your set wake-up time it will start to play, at first gently, gradually increasing over ninety seconds to the volume level you selected.
You can also drift to sleep with gradually dimming light and sound to mimic sundown or dusk. The gradual decreasing light and sound help you to drift to sleep. You can set your preferred time for the duration of the dusk simulation.
Lights up to 300 Lux for natural awakening because the senitivity to light differs a lot per person. In general, when using a higher light intensity a person needs less time to become fully awake. The light intensity of the Wake-up Light can be set up to 300 Lux or 20. This makes sure you can wake up to the light intensity that suits your personal preference best. I like mine set at a 12 or 13.
Features
Light wakes you gently
Great sound quality
Energy saving lamp
4 natural wake-up sounds or radio - birds, chimes, the most pleasant beep I have ever heard, or drums
Anti-slip rubber feet
Alarm test function
Snooze button for sound and light 9 minute(s)
Compact size Limited bedside table space required (14x19.5cm)
Electricity back-up function 5 minute(s)
User interface 3 wheels (push & turn), 1 switch

The only thing, and I MEAN the only thing I would have added would have been a white noise option or crashing waves/rainfall for the dusk sounds so that using the falling asleep option would be easier.
All in all A GREAT PRODUCT that works great for me...
Pleasant dreams... |

"Great product.... when it works." | 2009-11-07 |

I purchased the Philips HF3480 Wake-up Light after reading through the company posted information and I decided that it might make my early mornings a little easier. The initial setup of the lamp is easy enough, you plug it in and use the three dials on the side of the lamp to set the time, alarm time, alarm sound...etc. There is a metal lever which is how the alarm is turned on (when activated it gives you a brief opportunity to set/reset the alarm time if desired) to snooze for 10 minutes, you press the lever and the noise shuts off for a bit (lamp stays on).
I felt the difference the next day and have greatly enjoyed the product, until just this past week. -_-'
A couple of nights ago I set the alarm as normal and went to sleep. The next day however, the lamp went on but there was no sound to help actually wake me up. Consequently I ended up two hours late for work. I checked the settings and when I tried to change the alarm time the clock timer acted like the dial responsible was stuck in the "down" position and would count down from 12 to 1 and circle through those numbers over-and-over.
I assumed that (hopefully) this was a case of user error and that I had merely set something incorrectly. Even after unplugging the unit for over 15 minutes (which online support said would reset to factory default settings) the lamp still didn't function properly.
I tried contacting support via the phone number from the phillips website and it sent me to the wrong support center. The representative I spoke with transfered me to a different support group which was also not responsible for supporting this product. So far I have had no success talking to a live person who is responsible for supporting this product so, hopefully this is just a case of bad luck with customer service ( I will update when I am able to talk to someone).
After several hours of searching on their website, I was unable to find ANY documentation that is posted online which details their warranty terms and managed to find the correct contact phone number only after using google to search the Philips site. To assist anyone else that may be having problems, I have copied the phone number and their hours below

I've owned this product for +/- 75 days and I hope Philips will stand by their product. The lamp does everything it promises, but with the utterly dismal customer service and the inexplicable unit failure, I can't give it the 5 stars I would have if the lamp had continued to function normally. |

As I'm sure many of you are thinking, "isn't this just a really expensive clock/lamp?" Maybe, but it was worth every penny.
I don't know if I would say that I wake up "with more energy" (like their site says) but I can definitely appreciate not being jolted awake. If the wake-up light is set bright enough (13-20 setting for me) it might not totally wake me up but it brings me out of a much deeper sleep so when the ACTUAL alarm goes off I can get up right away!
I feel less groggy in the morning and I've been able to wake up earlier with no problems!
Bottom line: Is it for everyone? Probably not. But for most people, this is an amazing clock/lamp that once you try, you'll love. |
