Started reading "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and could not put it down. The clock kept ticking and I kept reading. I am not alone in this page-turning frenzy. People like author Mario Vargas Llosa acted the same way and did not want the triolgy to end. I can't wait to read the next two. NOW, I need them NOW!
Mr. Larsson's taut story with its twists and turns is delicious. Other reviewers have already dissected the plot, so I am just adding a comment from someone who reads a couple of books a week. LOVED IT!!!!!!
Well, I finally finished the book. I almost gave up on this expansive story several times and then WHAMMO-something intriguing would happen. The story centers around the influential Vanger family in Sweden, specifically Henrik Vanger. He has been obsessed with the disappearance of his grand niece decades ago. Henrik finally hires a down-on his luck journalist by the name of Mikael Bloomkvist to pick up on the investigation where Henrik himself gave up. The cororate and financial aspects of this novel were a bore for me. It was also hard for me to feel totally immersed in this story because the names and locations of the towns in Sweden got in the way. I liked the charachters, though and their relationships to each other. The characters were all very fleshed out at the beginning of the book, but they continued to grow as the story progressed. I loved Lisbeth Salander. Despite her apparent Autism spectrum disorder, she let nothing and no one stand in her way. I will read the two subsequent novels simply to find out what happens with her.

We read this book in our book club this past month. My husband read it first and said if you can get
past the first 40 pages of alot of names, details, etc. then it is a fantastic book. I however found
the print to be very small and hard on the eyes. It didn't grip me however I am not a history buff
and this was just too long of a book for me. Everyone else I know really liked it.
"The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson"
Mikael Blomkvist is going through a tough time. He has recently been sentenced to gaol (prison) for libel, he has a difficult relationship with his ex-wife and daughter, and the magazine he currently works at is going through tough times. Enter Dirch Frode with an offer that he can't refuse. Though a bit tough to wade through in its beginning chapters, this book, the first of a trilogy, soon becomes a shamelessly fun murder mystery that is as entertaining as anything you're ever likely to read. Like any skillful thriller, it is populated with an earnest protagonist, a few brilliant suspects, and a decently sized cast of dramatic Swedish characters that are always interesting and serve a distinct purpose to the crime in question. Not a lot of U.S. bestsellers take place in Stockholm, but it gives this story a certain edge and serves as a proper backdrop for the Vanger family's history of tradition (and duplicity). Also of note are the author's many different clues and layers, and their relationship to the crime as a whole; the action is always maintained and keeps the story lean and fast-moving. The book as a whole keeps your interest, goes down easy, and ends on a note just subdued enough to make you want to keep reading the rest of the trilogy. Enjoy!

After struggling through the first couple of chapters I gave up trying to read this book. I just couldn't get interested in what I was reading and found it really boring.
