The Kindle is a good device for reading, but at least in France, it is unable to connect to any wireless provider?
You have to download the books first to your computer, and then by USB to the Kindle.

While I miss the tactile feel of a worn paperback, this product is too efficient, too slick and too affordable to pass up, especially if you are a frequent flyer.
"Love the new Kindle!"

I'm a Kindle 1 owner (a birthday gift from my boyfriend). I really liked the Kindle, the convenience of changing pages while lying down by only the press of my thumb. Holding it, however, was awkward and inadvertantly pushing the "next page" or "previous page" buttons were common. Still, the size and convenience of buying books was a plus.
I recently bought my boyfriend the latest Kindle because he was borrowing mine all of the time. He really loves the new Kindle. I think the button locations are better placed. I like that the scroll function is replaced by the joystick. I like the slimmer and symmetrical design, which makes it easier to hold. I also like the new way the on and off function is made.
The new Kindle has every upgrade they didn't put on the first Kindle. I would definitely recommend the new Kindle.
"Excellent product for what it is: A reader"

I got the Kindle 2 a few weeks ago and it has revolutionized my reading! I find myself reading a lot more than I used to, and my reading has become more varied. I find it is very easy to read on the Kindle, which has played a large role in the increased reading. The unit is MUCH easier to hold than a book; you don't have to continually pry the pages apart. It is lightweight and can easily be held with one hand or rested on a pillow while reading. I have not had any eye-strain like I do when staring a computer. Another thing I really like is that there is only a small amount of text on the page and it does not spread over a large horizontal distance. What this means is that reading text is easier and they eye does not get lost so easily trying to scan a long distance across a wide page--and in general the page is much less cluttered than a book. I feel much less distracted reading on the Kindle.
Another pro is being able to sample general portions of a book before buying, and once you get sucked in on a sample it is easy to buy and just keep reading. It is very empowering to be able to buy a book from bed at 11p.m.!
The cons (as noted elsewhere--but deserve to be mentioned):
No way to share/sell your books.
No way to organize books into folders
The technology will soon become outdated--I would say it is like having a palm pilot a few years ago. I think E-readers will continue and grow in popularity, but they will become more slick with time. Now that the price is down it is not so bad getting slapped as a new user.
One last hint: I ordered the Kindle 2 as a refurb for a substantial savings and it came packaged as new, looked new, smelled new, etc. I'm very glad I went this route. Also ordered the leather case as a refurb and it was also "as new".
"Great Product"

I love books and I hate clutter. I've had my Kindle for 6 months now and can say that it is easily the best present I have been given. My observations:
Pros:
- I have read significantly more books in the last 6 months than previously as I can effectively carry around as many books as I like or download a new book once I am finished with the old one.
- Not having to hold a book open and the ability to click a button to turn the page means that you can hold the 'book' easily in one hand or lay it on a table (great, for example, for recipe books).
- I have not noticed a significant problem with books not being available on Kindle (I generally read popular fiction)
- The screen is matt and does not hurt my eyes in any way. The ability to increase or decrease the size of the text also helps with this.
- I now own dozens more books than I did when I purchased the Kindle but they take up no space.
Cons:
- The Kindle is fragile and, as far as I can tell, the extended 2 year warranty only covers one time accidental damage. I used up my chance by buying a cover with hinges (my tip: until amazon resolve this design flaw there are good quality covers without hinges that give your Kindle a chance of survival).
- It is impossible to sort your books into folders for different types or even read/unread which is just a pain.
- There is no backlight. You can buy a clip on light as an accessory but as it is a little bulky and I don't want to carry this with me all the time it is not ideal.
I used to think there was something special about paper books and I still buy paper books for my children as the graphics are important, but this product has made me realize just how much of my collection was kept simply to have the ability to reread the story if I wish and the Kindle does this admirably and uses up a lot less space.

I USE A BOOK HOLDER UNTIL I PURCHASED MY STAND UP COVER. GLARE IS MINIMAL EVEN IN THE DARK WITH BOOK LITE..THE ONE THING I WOULD IMPROVE ON IS BEING ABLE IT PUT MY OWN PICS FOR THE SCREEN SAVER. IN FACT I FIND MYSELF DEMOSTRATING ITS FEATURES JUST ABOUT EVERWHERE I GO. I HAVE HELPED TO SALE TO SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO LOVE THEIR KINDLES ALSO......
