This machine is great for the most part. But, if you have technical problems don't count on customer service helping you.
I had this product for seven months before it began cutting in the wrong position (jumping an inch low on the start mark) and wouldn't turn on or off at times.
I called customer service and was told to turn the machine off when changing cartridges, that is not written anywhere on the information given. The machine had a one year warranty so they sent me a replacement machine. My first problem was that this machine was refurbished. I had used my cricut very little in the time I had it and with a refurbished machine I had no idea how many hours were logged on it or what the previous problem had been. Also its appearance was that of a well used machine, dirty on the inside, scuff marks, etc. I refused this machine and asked for my old one to be refurbished. This was not possible and of course requesting a new machine was out of the question. A "new" refurbished machine was sent. Meanwhile, time was ticking on my one year warranty and I asked customer service to extend that warranty, I was after all out several weeks with problems out of my control. I was repeatedly told that the one year warranty would stand no matter what. So, the "new" refurbished machine was out of warranty a few weeks after I received it. And guess what.......it is doing the same thing my original machine did and only works a quarter of the time. The company will not stand behind their product, and customer service is not helpful in any way!
I love the idea of what the machine can do, but I am on my third poorly functioning machine; it is out of warranty and I am out of luck.

| I was so anxious to get my cricut personal cutting machine, but after having it for a month, I am shipping it back..Why can't they have 1 cartridge that you can do everything with? I found that I didn't have the right cartridges to do anything with. And they are pretty pricey. So, after working all afternoon yesterday trying to make my granddaughter a birthday day card and halloween card together and then having it look horrible. I just decided that it wasn't worth it. It's suppose to be fun and relaxing, but it wasn't that for me.. |

Let me first say that this is a really great tool and it cuts well once you get the hang of which thickness settings to use. It is amazing the way it can cut letters and sayings. This you can do in no time. If you are a scrapbooker, you have a great supply of fonts and shapes, but as others have said it is pricey as you have to purchase cartridges to get all this. I am a stamper/card maker so use stamped images rather than die cut images as my focus. So what I was looking for was the shapes like squares, rectangles, ovals, scalloped ovals, etc to layer under my stamped image.
But the size of these shapes are determined by the machine and I don't get as much flexibility as I would like. For example, if I want a rectangle, I can set the width using machine pre-set options, but not the length (or vice versa whichever direction I plan to use the piece). I can't really tell what length it will be until the machine cuts it and if it is too long, I have to manually cut it to size. There a size dial that has limited inches options of 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5,5 (maybe 5.5 can't remember). So if I want a 3.25 square, I have to make a 3.5 and manually cut it down. I spent last night printing out various shapes in various sizes to use as templates when I design a card so I hope this helps. I will have to design to what the machine can do rather than get the machine to do what I want. I make cards to donate so I wanted a faster way to make many cards. This machine will save me some work but I still will have to do a lot of manual cuts. I don't think I want to return it, but this is most disappointing.
Also, on most cartridges there are very few images like those that I want to use. A lot of fonts and cute focus shapes, but not a lot of the type of thing I use. I guess that means I won't spend a lot on cartridges!
Go to You Tube and see what others are saying about how to re-sticky the mat or ways to use your computer fonts instead of the cartridges. I haven't tried these yet, but they may be a way to save on money.
Maybe the more expensive models give you more flexibility or if there are tips I just don't know yet. I just bought the Cricut Personal so I didn't research that much and didn't want to spend more for a bigger model. |

I was looking for a basic cutting machine that wouldn't cost a few hundred dollars. I also wanted it to be Cricut brand. This was a reasonable price and is perfect for cutting titles, shapes, etc. It also came with a basic font cartridge which suits my needs fine for now.
Amazon had the best price I could find online.

It's a great product and very simple to use. All you have to do is follow the instructions in the manual that comes with the machine. Once you get past the initial set-up which is not that complicated (all you have to do is insert the cartridge and the razor) and that takes about 5 minutes, you're good to go.
The only problem is the cutting pad; on your first few cuts, the pad sticks to the paper (especially if you use a regular paper, cardstock is the best choice for this machine). Place the cardstock on the pad and gently press it with your fingers so it stays put. You don't have to press hard. Also, the pad lasts longer than what the manual says, just make sure you place the protecting sheet back on it when you're done.
The other problem, well... it's the price of new cartridges. The machine comes only with one basic cartridge and manual for alphabets and some basic tags and shapes. For anything fancy, you will need to purchase a new cartridge for each font. Check the price of cartridges for different fonts online before you purchase this product (if pricing is one of your concerns), otherwise, you're stuck with one font (and not a fancy one).
