I bought this book after seeing all the lovely food in the J & J movie. At first I was apprehensive about attempting anything, having never cooked before, ever(heating up pasta sauce in the micro-wave doesn't really count). So I tried the very first recipe, potato and leek soup(which sounded yuck), but was actually delicious and not really difficult at all. The directions were precise, which is great. I managed to cut the leeks in the wrong direction(but I would not have known unless mum told me so). I can't wait until I get to the poultry and dessert sections.

I love the book - I have already made several of the dishes. The were all wonderful. They take time - but are worth the effort. The instructions are extremely easy to follow - even for the difficult dishes.

This is an amazing cookbook, have cooked the Boeuf Bourguignon, roast chicken like I've never tasted before, made a gluten free stuffing as well, vegetables, sauces and am looking forward to many more wonderful meals, the Boef was just wonderful, there are only two of us here and we had it for around 4 meals over time, so delicious.

I have really enjoyed just reading the book and dreaming of the wonderful meals to come, Julia Childs was an amazing cook.

For Brits and other English speakers who love to cook and are either living in or have holidays homes in the US, Julia Child's masterpiece transposes the ingredients, measurements and techniques of classic French cuisine into practical recipes, well within the capabilities of the enthusiastic home chef. So if you're an expat crashed out on fast food, pacific rim and fusion fare, treat yourself to one of Julia's classics and remember invite a local, they need to know what they're missing. If you have any doubts watch the movie first and if you love good food, you'll buy the book. An indispensible part of the "batterie de cuisine".
