this book was supposed to be used but in very good condition. It was in pretty good conditiona except for a number of sections which had been carefully removed.

I am 36 years old and was a Summer with a lovely red colored hair that did not match with my skin tone nor with my clothes and even less with my makeup. This book changed my life. Despite other comments, the "color theory" presented by Ms. Jackson is timeless because people still have Blue or Yellow untertones. Now I have my hair with my real color and I love the way I look. You can always learn valuable lessons from people with more explerience than you, and even if the book was written with the 80's fashion in mind, if you are smart enough, you can find your 2010 style.

This book is fairly old and does need revision as far as styles etc. BUT the basic concept still holds true--the right colors can make you more beautiful. I started using this concept for selecting clothes and makeup years ago. While the book may need updating because styles do change-the ideas of how to select colors by season is a good one. You just need to pick your season based on your skin, hair and eye color. Then once you have your season there is a color pallette included that you can tear out and take with you when you go shopping. This helps in color selection and in experimenting with you own color preferences. I have seen profound differences in people who know how to wear the right colors. This extends to makeup, eye glasses, etc. This book is definitely worth the time and money to get a copy.

I love this book by Carole Jackson. Yes, it "seems" outdated and a little zany but if you give it a shot, I PROMISE this book will work for you!

I'm 20 years old and I first encountered this book when I was in the eigth grade. I am a brown skinned black female and I used to think what looked amazing was golds, browns, generally warm-tones, like the Autumn of the seasons. And, you know what, I used to have issues with my cosmetics, eyeshadow in particular. There would be days when the golds or browns I wore looked TERRIBLE!

Long story short, I discovered I was a winter. She is usually the black woman anyway, except my mother who is a pale-skinned Autumn (she looks ghastly in cool tones). A winter wears jewel tones (think of precious stones such as emeralds, sapphires, diamonds, rubies), pure whites and jet blacks, beautiful pastels, "shocking" and icy pinks, magentas, plums, bright burgundies, mauves... Can you tell I'm excited? :)

Also, many makeup artists out there like to put golds, coppers, browns, etc. on black women like me when, according to Ms. Jackson, MOST black women are cool-toned winters. Note: we shine in purples, pinks, berries, etc., people! :)

If you don't trust the accuracy of this book, then think of "Designing Women": Julia and Suzanne were winters, Charlene was a Summer, and Mary-Jo was an Autumn. They all were dressed BEAUTIFULLY on the show because the colors they wore flattered their natural coloring!

Ms. Jackson's book is neatly put together, although you might want to use a little caution with the color swatches in the book; sometimes publishing can alter the pages. There are absolutely beautiful illustrations throughtout (maybe I'm just a geek :P) and pictures of real women in correct palettes and WRONG palettes--the difference is astounding!

Bottomline: IF you ever sat in the mirror and wondered why, like me, that gold eye shadow never seems to look "quite right", you should really grab this book and figure out your season! (You're probably a winter or summer!)

The book talks about 4 different color types: Summer, Spring, Winter and Fall and which shades and colors should be worn by women, depending on which color type they belong to. This book can be used to help you determine which shades and colors make you look better, teach you wearing "your" colors. As a friend of mine once said that even if you are depressed, single, lonely and sick, if you are wearing a sweater of "your" color you will look decent. Perhaps not excellent but not bad either. "Your" colors will bring out the best in you.

I found this book to be very helpful in determining the colors that are right for me, but one thing in the book I didn't like - there are a number of clothing personalities listed but it's not really easy to determine which one you belong to. I mean, there is no way to double check if you have selected your clothing personality correctly.
