"Great content! User un-friendly format..." | 2009-10-08 |

The book itself is great. The pages could be a little stronger. It's easy for them to become worn and tear away from the spiral binding after doing a set of bicep curls, for example, marking down your work, and tossing the book down to the gym floor to move back to the weights. I don't really want to focus on not tearing my book in the gym.
The content is great. A little on the feminine side, but I can't complain.
The format is rigid and restricting. The weeks start with Monday and end with Sunday and the page after that is the weekly wrap-up. That wold be great if that was how I worked out. I start on Sunday and have a six day rotation. I don't think it should have days listed. Or maybe a spot where you could just write them in yourself.
Overall, this is a great book, but it isn't a perfect fit for how I work out. |

"Great Log!" | 2009-05-26 |

| This log came oh-so close to getting a 5-star rating! UP SIDE: From the introduction "Why Keep a Log?" to the very end of the book where there are all sorts of charts to record your own personal records, this log has all the information I'm looking for in one place. How many calories did I burn in that aerobics class? Turn to page 153. What should I do if I get injured? Turn to page 45! It's all right there! DOWN SIDE: I agree with other reviewers... first, there's just not enough room to write everything down. Personally, I'd like more room for strength training, nutrition notes, and perhaps a small section where I can jot down how my day went overall. A combination fitness log/mental health jornal! A page a day would be able to accommodate all that. Second, the log itself needs to buff up! I take this book with me everywhere...after only a month and a half, it's falling apart! I would definitely be willing to spend more money for this book if it had a more durable cover and back and a stronger wire spiral binding. Other than that...I love it! |

| I did some homework on what type of journal to buy and have really liked this one -- I've even purchased it for a few friends. It certainly isn't meant to be a food diary, if you are looking for that, but it does have a space for everything. I record my weight under morning info, what I ate (just a list) under nutrition, weight-lifting, cardio, and even digestive and soreness issues under mind-body notes. The best part for me is the weekly wrap, where I can add up total calories burned from excercise and make a note about any nutrition trends over the week. I only wish it went an entire year....I'll be ordering another one soon. |

"Great log for keeping track" | 2009-02-21 |

I just bought my second Ultimate Workout Log as I filled the first one. I first bought the book because I am middle aged with two teenagers and I want to continue to stay in shape to do things with them. I realized that due to work, travel and other commitments, I was probably not working out at the frequency that I "thought" I was. This book helps keep me honest and I can see if I slip.
What I like most about the Ultimate Workout log is the flexibility and space for writing. There are space reminders to note nutrition or overall feelings. Sometimes I use the book to track cups of coffee consumed (too many!) or hours of sleep (not enough!). Other times I simply track that I ran five miles or rode thirty.
There is a daily & weekly rating system that helps you keep track workout progress (frequency, consistency, effort, etc) over the six month span of the book. As I switch to a new book, I realize I never really utilized that. Now it is harder to look back and see fitness progress. With this next one, I'll take notes on how the weeks progressed. Along with this log, I use an electronic log to automatically track miles biked or run (it downloads directly off the GPS feature in my phone from www.bimactive.com). The two systems work well together and I still like the idea of a paper log to flip through the week and check that I am sticking to my plan.
I looked at other logs before I bought this one. I like the spiral binding to open flat to the relevant page; I like the prompts to fill in specific aerobic & strength workout information as well as nutrition and overall well being. I like the large amounts of white space for writing. I am on to my second book and look forward to using more in the future.

| I just purchased my 7th Ultimate Workout Log. I've found it to be a reliable tool to track and plan my workouts on a weekly basis. My practice is to write my workouts out before the week begins. I track my goals, personal best, records, heart rate, etc., and I always know where I left off with my weights and reps when I go to lift. I can go back and pull workouts from previous sessions. I work out at least six days a week so having an occasional blank page doesn't bother me. I would say if you work out perhaps three or four times a week you might be bothered by the fact that you are not utilizing every page. |
