Here is what people are saying about the Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child
5 Star Rating  "Sleeping baby!"2009-11-08
- Reviewed By User: A34KQSTCMBO293
Great book, offers many different helpful hints to get your baby to sleep. Our daughter was rather fussy and fighting sleep, however after following a few simple steps she is sleeping soundly for 5-6 hours a night at 5 weeks old, thanks!

2 Star Rating  "This book had some useful info but made me a bit mad"2009-11-03
- Reviewed By User: A1TOCIY88WI8DF
First, I would like to say this book did have a lot of useful information and I would actually recommend that everyone read it for that. It does go into a good example of a schedule for a baby and why a baby needs that schedule to great detail. It also has good information on signs your baby is tired or ready for sleep.

What I severly dislike about the book:

1. It bashes other books and sleep methods. This is completely unnecessary.

2. Not all babies are the same and this book advocates the cry-it-out method for all babies, including stating that if you don't do this your child will have sleep difficulties for the rest of their lives. There is obviously much proof otherwise and there are quite a few other ways to teach your child to self-soothe.

3. It states reasons parents wouldn't want to let there child cry it out which are mostly not true, mainly that a parent wouldn't want to do this because they feel "guilty" for being away from the baby during the day. This is complete crap. Maybe that's true for some parents but not for a majority.

4. The book is very long and not put together in a logical, easy to read way. You have to continuously turn to other sections of the book to try to make sense of it.

5 Star Rating  "Read and reread this book for three children"2009-10-21
- Reviewed By User: A2Q87JTFQCLYKO
I was having trouble figuring out the sleep thing with my first child, 10 years ago. I checked out six books from the library and read them all when he was 3 months old. I liked this one best and (mostly) stuck with it. I reread it when my second child came along and then re-reread it with the latest addition who is 7 months old and I think I'm getting better and better at implementing the measures that Dr. Weissbluth recommends. The material is as relevant now as it was 10 years ago and I LOVE this book. I read it cover to cover in the first two weeks after the last one was born and every few weeks I find myself referring to different sections and reviewing them as things change. Other reviewers thought the material was a bit dry but I appreciated the scientific approach that Dr. Weissbluth has taken and found it gave me the best understanding of what was possible. You DO NOT have to be sleep deprived for the first year of life with a new baby.

I recommend this book to everyone I know that is having a baby and hope that it will help them to get a great night's sleep and raise a child that is also a great sleeper.

5 Star Rating  "No More Tears"2009-10-15
- Reviewed By User: A3LNA7WQ8RJUY6
I've used Dr. Weissbluth's book for my first two children, and with the advice I got from it, I feel like a saner person and a better mother. When my oldest son was two, he couldn't fall asleep on his own, and as a result didn't fall asleep until close to 11pm every night. Every day he threw tantrums and was inconsolable. A friend told me about Dr. Weissbluth's book, so I bought it and learned that I should put my son to bed by 6pm. Yes, the philosophy is counter-intiutive, but it is based on decades of research--and it works! The difference was night and day. My son not only fell asleep quickly--and on his own--but slept later in the morning (he had been getting up around 5am, but now slept until 6:15). From then on, he was a happier child, rarely threw tantrums, and excelled at school. With my daughter, I put her to bed early and had no sleep problems with her until she was about two. When she stopped napping, the chapter on re-establishing the nap really helped. I learned I was putting her down for a nap too early, so started a later nap. She not only started napping again, but slept now for two hours every afternoon instead of 30, 45, or 60 minutes. Without Dr. Weissbluth's book, I would be overwhelmed, overtired, and overextended. Now that I have a third child, I put him down before he becomes overtired. I am confident that if he ever needs to re-establish his naps, I can turn to Dr. Weissbluth's book and get him back on track. I've bought this book half a dozen times: twice for myself (the first copy was passed down to my brother when his daughter was born), for my sister-in-law, and for a few friends. It's not only a perfect gift for first-time parents, but also for seasoned moms and dads who face challenging sleep issues.

4 Star Rating  "Good book but organization of the book hard to follow"2009-08-12
- Reviewed By User: A3KDX1RJONCARW
Of all the baby parenting books I've read so far, I liked this one the best. And let's face it, for a really young child, instilling good sleep habits is the most you can do to be a "good" parent. Dr. Weissbluth knows what he's talking about and his descriptions of the baby's sleep patterns and habits is very spot on. I really benefited from recognizing the signs of tiredness and realizing that I was confusing tiredness with hunger. The only drawback to this book is that the organization of the book is confusing. It's somewhat organized by age range, but there are chapters that apply to all babies. I also think the book could be edited down to be a lot shorter and more concise, with more charts to summarize information. But all in all a very good book.

5 Star Rating  "LOVE LOVE LOVE this book"2009-08-11
- Reviewed By User: AXBRHS252D3AM
I have read a couple of different sleep/baby books and this one is the best. A friend recommended this to me and I have since recommended it to others. It is the perfect book for those taking a middle of the road approach. Not too rigid, but not too loosey goosey. I was able to get my daughter to lay down and go to sleep on her own pretty early with this book. (not quite there with my second baby - he's only 4 months old). This book gives many case studies, so you are most likely going to find a story similar to yours. It starts with infants and goes through toddlers, including many challenges such as colic and headstrong toddlers. This book gives you realistic expectations and sound advice. Also has chapter at end on how to get through changes in routine and bumps in the road such as vacations.
