I LOVED this book and am astonished at how many bad reviews this book seems to be getting. Jemima J is one of the best chick lit books I have ever read. Jemima is fun, looking for love, overweight and a bit depressed. She is every women who needs to lose some weight to feel better about themselves, she overeats to make herself feel better and lacks confidence.
This books shows us how she loses weight, gains confidence, gets love and realizes what is important in life all while making us laugh out loud.
Excellent book! |

| I liked this book. So what if it wasn't so realistic as others have said, it's FICTION! that being said, i don't think it was ridiculously unrealistic, although it wasn't the most incredible read, i did enjoy reading this book. Although I'm not 100+ pounds overweight I can still relate to Jemima's insecurities; I suspect everyone has some Jemima in them. I thought the characters were well developed, I felt like I knew Jemima, Ben, and Geraldine. This was my first Jane Green novel and I will be checking out her other books. Although it was a tad predictable and a little cliche, overall i thought it was a good, light read! |

"Great chick lit" | 2009-06-07 |

| I read mystery novels for a few weeks and decided that I wanted to read a chick lit book - in steps Jane Green. I had heard many good things about her as an author, and have been following her on Twitter, so I looked around for a book recommended by many people - I found that Jemima J seemed to be mentioned most. It took me a chapter or two to get into Jane Green's style of writing (she uses commas a lot more than I'm used to, interestingly enough), but after that I got interested in the story. After the basic plot was revealed, I had a hard time believing it, but I was far enough in that I had some attachment to Jemima, the main character. The end events turned my thoughts more positive about the entire book, because everything didn't end up exactly like I expected it to. I liked it enough to pick up another Jane Green book at the library, and am glad I have several more Green books available to read. |

| Reading other people's reviews on here, I don't think we read the same book! I thought it was a fun, fast read. I also thought Jane Green did a great job of Jemima's mental state before and after she lost weight. I think it's interesting that some reviewers compared THEIR experiences to a fictional character. Read a biography if you are interested in a real life story. Or pick up a classic novel if you want a more serious tale. Obviously when you read any book by Jane Green it's not going to be Charles Dickens, and that's okay! I loved it and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good beach read. |

| I agree with fellow reviewers who describe this book as incredibly unrealistic, but nonetheless I found it a very fun and easy read. I would put this book in the "guilty pleasure" sub-category of "chick lit" ... escapist and entertaining. |

"Jemima J by Jane Green" | 2009-04-13 |

| Jemima J starts with the line "God, I wish I were thin." Well, that grabbed me. Hmmm, don't most women mutter this exact statement multiple times over the course of their lives? But sadly, Jemima spends too much time in a pity party. I found myself wanting slap her into realizing her beauty and talent and get over her weight issues. Now, it sounds like I didn't like the book. I did like it. It was an easy read, I liked the way the author jumped between first and third person narration, and I had fun with the time period of the first foray into the internet. But read this book with the expectation of a fun, beach read and not with the intent to take away ongoing life lessons. |
