"Informative without being scary"

I bought three books and this was by far the best. It gives information in a non-scary way. Comparing it to the other books: The What to Expect Book is great as a reference but not good as a weekly read because it is way too alarmist. What to Expect covers about everything as does the Mayo book. The organization is different but I like Mayo's organization a little better. There really isn't anything I could think of to make the Mayo Guide book better. It gives the facts and is worded delicately. The other book we have is the Week By Week book, again alarmist. When you are pregnant you don't want to read...."if you have a miscarriage this week you can tell the sex of the baby" and from another book a friend bought me ..."if the baby dies during childbirth take time to hold your dead baby". I wonder what the heck these authors/editors were thinking when they wrote and ok'ed this stuff. Mayo is the only guide I have found so far that doesn't have any negatively worded information. I recommend to anyone pregnant or trying to get pregnant.
I'm 7 months into my first time of pregnancy now. I bought several books and borrowed more from the library. I had this book before I got pregnant. At the time, it looked sort of boring. But as things go further, it turns to be the most useful one for me. Maybe it should not be the only book you get for pregnancy, but I'd highly recommend it to anyone.
I particularly like that it has a doctor-like matter-of-fact tone. After reading too many girlish-toned pregnancy books, this book is refreshing and relieving. It is very informative, yet very concise and gives answers quickly. The format is also very easy to use. One major part is pregnancy week by week; another major part is symptoms. (Not like "what to expect", symptoms and questions are mixed with the chapters of "week by week." Then this month you remember you read something somewhere, but couldn't find it. Next month you read something that you already experienced last month.)
I eventually kept this book with "what to expect when you are expecting". I think these two books together basically meets my need.

Although we lost our 1st baby, I've found this book has answered almost every question or doubt that has crossed my mind. It's not really a book I can sit down and read in it's entirety (I only read up to where we were in our pregnancy as it progressed and looked up specific topics), but it is a wonderful reference to all pregnacy related questions! All information is indexes and easy to find. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is expecting or trying to conceive!

My husband and I are thinking about starting family in the coming months and I wanted to know as much as possible before we even delve into this new adventure. I've read to other books that were informative, but this is the one I will go back to and read again when I actually am pregnant, I'd say it is good just if you want good information even if you are just thinking about getting pregnant.

With so many books on the market, I was SO pleased to find an easy-to-read, non-alarmist pregnancy book. It's the only one I recommend.

This is an excellent book that covers so much information. It is almost like an encyclopedia of pregnancy. Definitely worth purchasing.
