"Detective Novel Reading at its Best."

I have found only two detective story writers that I know in advance will provide reading pleasure for me from front to back cover. This is especially true of this trifecta of Harry Bosh stories, Echo, Ice, and Blonde . Michael Connelly consistently draws a written picture that I feel as if I am there in the place and action. Accurate research is also a must for my reading pleasure. Connelly is one of the top of the line at this necessity.

Hi, The Book was in the condition described by the seller. Good bargain.
This compilation is of the first three stories that Michael Connelly wrote with the fantastic Los Angeles Police Department detective Hieronymous [Harry]Bosch. Mr. Connelly is always contemporary, right on target with what is going on in the world at that time and brings you into the story fast and holds you there to the finish. Each of the three stories builds on the last one. I particularly like that Mr. Connelly brings events and characters from one novel to the next. By reading these novels late in his writings I have had the benefit of not having to wait months for the next book, so they flow with a very smooth line from what we already know about Harry Bosch to fleshing him out more fully as he does his best kind of detail detective work for a department that considers him something of a rogue maverick that won't always play "their" games. Each story is a fantastic read as it was as a stand alone novel. To have them together is like having a delicious decadent banana split to devour one flavor after another with lots of nuts cherries and whipped cream to top it off.
I started reading Michael Connelly with The Lincoln Lawyer which was not a Harry Bosch novel and then the Brass Verdict which did have the Harry Bosch character in it along with all the characters of The Lincoln Lawyer. Harry explains something to the main character that bonds them in a very unique way. It was after reading those books that I decided it would be more fun to read from the first of Mr. Connelly's writings and gain the richness of his characters as they grow in experiences and age. I have not been disappointed. I am looking forward to working through all his writings. I like very much that he winds up loose ends before stopping each novel.
"great price"

Great price for 3 books in one. If you like the author you'll like these stories. Only drawback is that the book is enormous and not as easy to hold while reading or take places.
This is a splendid collection of the first three Harry Bosch novels of Michael Connelly, a popular fiction writer who is one of my very favorites. Connelly excells at characterization, especially with Bosch, and his plotting can be expected to have some unusual, yet believable twists that set his books apart from other writers in the genre.
In Black Echo, the first Harry Bosch novel, we meet a dedicated LAPD detective trying to track down the killer of a Vietnam vet while struggling to manage his own demons from that war. Key to this novel is an interesting and little-known back story about the so-called "tunnel rats" who were charged with pursuing the enemy down through the labyrinth of underground tunnels that riddled the jungles of Vietnam. This particular piece of plotting adds depth to the story and helps this novel stand out as a classic.
In Black Ice, Connelly further develops Bosch's personality to a point where the cynical detective's darkly comic character quirks made me laugh out loud. This time Bosch is trying to track down the reasons behind a fellow cop's apparent suicide, with links to a Mexican drug ring that sells the "black ice" of the title -- a potent combination of cocaine, heroin and PCP. This is the novel in which Bosch meets Sylvia, the dead cop's widow and the woman with whom he will fall in love by the time of his next case, detailed in The Concrete Blonde.
The Concrete Blonde is the last novel in this triloogy and it may be the best (although I am kind of partial to the Vietnam story for personal resons.) One of the reasons I really enjoy reading Connelly is that he gives both Bosch and his books a macabre humor that makes me chuckle while at the same time scolding myself for laughing at things that are really tragic. I find the ironic title of this novel quite funny, for example, even though the book has Bosch tracking down the killer of a woman who is, literally, encased in concrete.
Harry Bosch's exceedingly irreverent attitude toward the LAPD command structure and its accompanying bureaucracy is hilarious and its juxtaposition with the deadly serious nature of Bosch's work makes for crime novels that are highly entertaining and several cuts above the usual mass market fare. I highly recommend this collection, as well as all of Connelly's other novels, including those that do not feature Harry Bosch.
