This is where Keith Tanner really shines! He has a way of explaining very simple to very complex projects that almost any Miata owner can benefit from. Some may find a few of the projects too simple (like explaining to the nube how to do their first oil change) but the book has plenty of more complex projects for those willing to take them on. When my wife accidentally "recycled" my old copy of this book, I promptly ordered a new one to help me through removing and replacing the head (for a valve job).

Don't expect to find many actual performance projects in this book. For instance, there is nothing on fuel or intake systems. The performance projects it does have are very limited in detail. The wheel alignment chapter basically tells you how awesome it is to have a performance wheel alignment, "here are the specs you want, take them to your alignment shop". The majority of the book is basic repairs that are covered better in other books such as my favorite "MX-5 Miata Enthusiast's Workshop Manual". But if you want to pretty up your car, the author goes into detail about how to install custom dash faces and how to put stripes on your car. Give me a break. This book is a disappointment.

I got this book at the recommendation of other Miata enthusiasts. IT has been incredibly helpful. I did a complete brake job with the instructions in the book. It was really easy to follow. I refer to it often when working on the car. It is a good resource to have.

This book is just what the advertising says it is - project howto for your Miata. I'm going to replace the differential on mine, and this book will be my guide. Good pictures, interesting, accurate text. Some overlap between this book and his other book.

I bought this book expecting great things from Keith Tanner, after reading many of his insights on Miata.net. This book might be a good introduction to a new Miata owner, but it leaves a lot out that is covered in the Miata Performance Handbook by Norm Garrett.
