Here is what people are saying about the Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation - PlayStation (PSX/PSOne)
5 Star Rating  "Really pushed the limits of the PS1"2009-10-20

This just came out for the Playstation Network and I purchased it and played it for the first time. I'm really blown away at just how beautiful it is. The scale of these levels is massive. This is much different from the current Tomb Raider games. There are tons of places to explore. You can almost get almost get lost. But it's also easier than the Tomb Raider games that came before it. There is less switch pulling or block pushing which is fine by me. This is probably my second or third favorite Tomb Raider game for the Playstation 1.

5 Star Rating  "TR: The Last Revelation: An underrated gem."2009-03-05

The bottom Line: No matter what your opinions were on TR:III, Tomb Raider the Last Revelation is a game that every Tomb Raider fan should check out. It's one of the best in the series.

After the travesty of Tomb Raider III, I stayed away from this new TR for quite a while. To put it simply, my faith in Eidos was completely shot. I was afraid, to be honest, that the Tomb Raider series would be crap now. Luckily, what we have here is not only a vast improvement over TR:III. The fourth game in the series is on par with the original in my books. That, I should say, is not an easy feat. If you love Tomb Raider, you will love this game.

Unfortunately, many people seem to overlook TR: The Last Revelation amongst all the other Tomb Raiders. This is a shame given that it goes back to the original Tomb Raider feeling. The puzzles, the ingenuity, the atmosphere, the replay value - it's all there. Much like the original, I never tire of playing it.

The story this time centers around Egypt. While on one of her Tomb Raiding expeditions there, Lara takes an amulet from a tomb. The amulet, unfortunately for her, was more than just an artifact, it was an imprisonment key. By removing the Amulet, Lara released the evil Egyptian god Set/Seth, who is bent on - well, what do all evil villains want? - yep, world domination. Fun...so Lara of course has to travel across Egypt in an effort to lock the evil immortal away again.

Given my love for Egyptian history, let's just say that I found this story very interesting. It was a new spin on the series - as opposed to Lara being commisioned to find artifacts and encountering trouble along the way. This one was different: it proved that that our heroine can make mistakes; but is willing to correct them. That being said, we even get little tid-bits about Lara herself when she was younger, including the "origin of the backpack" she carries.

Level Design and puzzles: We have expansive levels in TR:LR, there are multiple areas to visit and backtrack to and it gives off true a feeling of adventure. It's much like the first game where you'd wander around for a while trying to piece together what you were supposed to do or where you should go. It gives off a true Tomb Raiding experience, as it's a lot of fun. The puzzles just add to it. They make you think about how you are supposed to progress in the game and are constantly keeping you on your toes with the old and new traps that abound. Closing spike rings, timed runs through trap areas, chopping floor blades, and more will appear as obstacles to traverse. When it comes to items, a welcome addition to puzzle solving is that Lara now has the ability to combine what she finds. Two pieces of an artifact may make a key, for example. It's a fun element to the game, as it makes you constantly think outside the box. Speaking of outside the box, there's one solution that involves playing a game of Senet, which hones your strategy skills! Yes, the Last Revelation gives us our much-loved puzzles in spades. They present a welcome challenge and give the player a feeling of accomplishment when they are solved.

When it comes to new things to do, there's plenty. Lara can now swing and climb on ropes to reach new areas. She also has a pair of binoculars to look around the area, as well as a crowbar to get into locked doors. Speaking of doors, Lara can now (finally) kick them in. And, of course, she can now shoot crates, even from a crouch position, to get items. Lara can also use new weapons, like a crossbow. There are also different types of ammo that can be loaded into certain weapons, adding some strategy to killing your enemies.

In the graphics there are slight improvements, but nothing monumental. In some in-game cutscenes (this is not counting the in-game movie/cinematic sequences) characters mouths move for the first time when they're talking. Character designs are rounded out and not as blocky as before. When it comes to the environment, a nice shift is that they do not all look the same for being in Egypt. There's enough variety to look at: but one significant improvement are the water and fire animations. They are rather impressive this time around and actually look more real than before.

Control-wise, the game handles pretty much the same as it always has. The controls for both exploration and combat both work well. Of course, our standard negative, the combat-situation/shaky wall effect is still there if Lara gets backed into a corner. But, once again this is minor and doesn't take away from the game.

The music, as always is stunning. Most notable among the score is the title track that plays on the game menu screen.

In the end, this game will impress from beginning to end. It will also please those who were upset by the lack of tombs Lara was raiding in previous games, by going back to the original TR puzzles. If you're a TR fan and haven't bought this game, I strongly advise you to pick it up somewhere.

Happy Tomb Raiding, everyone.

I think that this is te best game of the series. The graphics are improved from the previous games, and definately more complicated. The egyptian adventure features intertwined levels, a storyplot that goes back to the origins of Lara Croft, better control methods than the earlier games, and even better cheatcodes :P. I do not recomend this game for beginner players. If, however, you have played the other tombraider games, or are up to a challenge, this is definately the game for you.

I been playing this game since 1999. I just recently hooked up my playstation and loaded it with where i ended off back in like 99 or 00. I can't figure out this level with like these wheels in the ground (like ships wheels) in a dark area with torches on the wall, that you have to turn, there are like 3, don't know what direction to put them in to open something, any help? would like to beat this game before 2010, other than that its a sweet game
