This item is exactly what I hoped it would be! Very comfortable on bone in the heel of my hand and works well with infra-red mouse.( I had previously returned a mouse pad to the local office supply store because it would not track with my Mac mouse). This item is available in stores, but Amazon makes shopping so easy! I always make sure I have a min $25 order to get the free shipping and my order always arrives on time.
"Not as good as I had hoped"

I have used mouse pads with built in gel pads before and found them to be very comfortable.
So I was surprised that after some light use I was already feeling discomfort in my wrist, which was a surprise as the whole point of the gel pad is to support the wrist and reduce wrist strain. I decided that well maybe it was just me and went about my business not wanting to admit to my wife that I bought a boat anchor. To my surprise several days later she also complained of the same issue, so we turned it sideways and now use it without the gel support. I went back and checked my son's mouse pad with gel support and found his to be slightly softer and allow more compliance, and made this one seem very stiff in comparison.
In summary the mouse pad itself has a good surface and works very well with a Logitech High Performance Optical mouse, just didn't like the gel wrist support, so probably not worth the cost.

The size is perfect, the fabric is soft, the wrist-support is firm but comfortable and the mouse works perfectly on it. No complaints.
"Changed slightly, but still the best mouse pad that I've found"

I've had several of these, which I bought over 5 years ago that I use at both work and home. Being a software developer, I use it 8 hours a day at work. They are worn out and I needed replacements. I was a bit hesitant to buy one after reading some of the reviews that described the subtle changes to the material and problems with optical mice.
I will report that yes, the surface material has changed slightly. I can also report that I've had NO problems with either of my optical mice. One is a Logitech MX400 Laser Mouse and the other one is a standard Dell optical mouse (red LED under it).
The good:
- Soft, smooth fabric on top, nicely sticky rubber underneath.
- Adequately firm gel wrist rest.
The not-so-good:
- The gel wrist rest could be just a hair taller. Probably just my big hands, though, so may not apply to you.
- It's not a rigid base, so as it drapes over the seam in my workspace there's a little ridge. You probably have a flat desk, so this probably doesn't apply to you either.
Overall, I'm well-pleased with this. Those of you with average-sized hands and with an ordinarily flat workspace will be very happy indeed.
Mouse pad is very nice, looks new after 1 year,
but the pad is much too hard - and too narrow.
It is indented in the middle, across the pad.
I don't know if it is better than a plain pad.
