 | Alesis M1Active 320 USB Studio Monitor Pair |
 | "Impressive for the $$$" | 2009-07-04 |
I was using an Altec Lansing computer speaker setup (subwoofer + 2 satellites) as my studio monitor. They sounded good with plenty of volume, but I feared my mixes were being "colored" by speakers with bass & treble controls designed to make "already processed" music sound good. I wanted something with a "flat" response, but didn't have a lot of money to spend. So, I bought the Alesis M1 Active 320 USB to see how "studio monitor" sound would differ from "computer speaker" sound. Since the Alesis had no subwoofer & puny woofers, I didn't expect much bass. I was wrong. The M1 doesn't have as much bass as the Altecs with subwoofer, but what bass they do have is plenty adequate & much tighter. The whole sound is less muddy and more well defined from top to bottom, and I think that's the whole point. I know one could spend hundreds more for better monitors, but I'm no pro. For the price & for my needs, these work very well.

 | Belkin F5X007 XM Boombox |
 | "Thoroughly Impressed" | 2009-06-20 |
I wasn't expecting much, but I figured the Belkin F5X007 would give me another way to maximize the monthly XM payment for using my Audiovox Xpress other than just listening in the car. First, it's bigger than I thought it would be - but more importantly, sounds much, much better than expected. This thing gets fairly loud with decent bass (bass & treble adjustments are made on the Audiovox Xpress unit using the included remote control). I can't address any battery life issue since I've only had it 2 days, but I don't plan to use batteries that much anyway. It'll mainly be used on the patio while BBQing & partying or hauled around inside the house - both times plugged into a wall AC. For other outdoor occasions, there's always the car's cigarette ligher socket to plug into. As expected, for indoor reception, it must be placed near a window; or place the unit wherever you want, plug in an external XM antenna that's run to a window, & you're in business. At any rate, it's well worth the money & highly recommended.

 | "An O.K. movie - A horrible DVD transfer" | 2009-03-25 |
The movie itself is decent enough - but the picture quality is awful. It's washed-out & slightly blurry. Looks like something I recorded on VHS tape at slow speed off a late night local TV station. If you can get past the picture & sound quality, it's not a bad way to waste a rainy day in the recliner.

 | The Ghost And Mr. Chicken |
 | "'atta boy Luther" | 2003-12-21 |
This is a sentimental movie for me. I remember well going to see this as a 10-yr-old boy with my mom & late dad. For weeks after seeing it, my dad would say "Atta boy, Luther" any time any of us kids did anything right. My mom would say "...and they used Bon Ami" whenever appropriate. I thought it was one of the funniest movies I'd ever seen as a kid. On the other hand, I was scared to death when the organ started playing by itself (pretty tame by today's standards). As it's said, "They don't make 'em like this anymore". Any fan of Don Knotts should see this light-hearted film. It's not CITIZEN KANE, but it's enjoyable as a look at the mid-sixties pop-comedy genre.

 | "Finally, a widescreen version" | 2003-12-21 |
I bet I've watched this movie 20 times over the last 10 years between my old VHS copy and later Diamond Entertainment DVD version. I can't explain why, but I love this movie. It's the perfect lay in bed and doze-off-to movie. My recommendation: skip the Diamond fullscreen DVD version (which doesn't have any better quality than VHS tape) and go for the Image version. The only advantage the Diamond DVD has is that it's a double feature with "Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet", an almost decent dozer. I won't go into the plot or details since other reviews have. I can only say that this is an entirely enjoyable movie for classic sci-fi fans.

 | "I can't believe I like it" | 2003-06-18 |
Don't expect a Wes Craven-written, Steven Spielberg-produced cinematography-rich motion picture, and you'll have a blast. It's like a movie made for a college class assignment. Terrible acting, cheesy effects, horrible dialogue, home-made sets, all shot with home video camera splendor ... I LOVE IT!!! Just the no-stress-on-the-brain recreation one occasionally needs. Very original.

Some movies are so bad that they're entertaining, but Tycus doesn't merit that distinction. Tycus is simply bad. Stupid plot, amateur dialogue, poor acting, unimaginative sets & a "made-for-TV" feel all contribute to an exceptionally boring (the worst thing a movie can be) 94 minutes -- that is if one can hold on for that long. Dennis Hopper is a great actor, but he should do some jail time for appearing in this stinker.
