A good story that teaches children responsibility, a belief in God, that joy and sorrow go hand in hand, and that not everything turns out like one would like it to.

Yep...this book has already been reviewed by multitudes of people, so I will only say that this is a very well-written book that you will probably enjoy reading. It is one of those books that you just want to keep reading until you are done and then you are sad you are done reading.

The subject is very interesting, because it is something not normally thought about or written about. Informative book, but somewhat "dry" reading.

Rated 4 Stars"My 5-year-old loves it" 2009-09-27
A simple color matching game that has the players making long and short snakes. Enough luck that you can play with your kids and you both have a chance at winning. There are a couple of special snake parts that my kid really wants to get for herself that adds to the interest. It only takes about 30 seconds to explain the rules. The game pieces are printed on heavy card stock and are very durable. However, about half of my cards had a shift in color shade. This didn't affect the game in any way, but just didn't look good. Anyway, my 5-year-old loves this game. I recommend the game to those in that general age category.

My children really enjoyed this game for quite some time. My five-year-old now has it and plays it a great deal. This one I got my money's worth for the amount of time the kids used it.

Well, since about a zillion other people already reviewed this book, I will just say I enjoyed reading it; so if you like reading about pirate stuff, then you will probably enjoy reading it also.

Rated 4 Stars"Very good" 2009-09-27
Well-written book about how the "Americans" were able to defeat the British. Plenty of reviews have already been written, so I will just say that I enjoyed reading this book and that if you enjoy books concerning the American Revolution, you will probably enjoy reading it also. The book most definitely will leave you with an understanding of what happened and why it happened at The Bottle of Cowpens.

This is enjoyable to read, but some of the facts just aren't right. I would tell you more but another reviewer already covered the subject. So, it left me with a negative feeling concerning the book.

AutoCAD 2002 InstructorAutoCAD 2002 Instructor
Rated 4 Stars"I am an instructor; this is an excellent book" 2006-12-27
I am the head engineer at the company I work for (actually, I am the only engineer, so that makes it easy to be the "head engineer", but I digress). I have taught AutoCAD for several years in a continuing education department at a local college. I now teach the same course in a local high school's adult education program (the college courses were 6x the cost for the same course!). Anyway, this is probably the best AutoCAD book I have ever seen. It explains nearly everything in detail and offers examples on items other books do not. For example, using the "parallel" object snap is mystifing to most people, and most books do not show how to use it. They might tell you how to use it, but they do not show you. This book does. This book just offers more information
This is an excellent reference book also for those who are not beginners. However, sometimes the book presents too much information at once and overwhelms the person new to AutoCAD.
I do not actually use this book in my classes, however, because it is just too expensive. Of course, it is produced as a textbook and like all textbooks it is overpriced because students are typically stuck with whatever textbook they have to use and must pay the price. Textbook prices are a scam in general, and this is no exception. $95 is a ridiculous price for a book. Anyway, I produce all the materials for my AutoCAD program myself, and recommend the students just buy any book they like to use as a reference.
So if your company is buying you a book, I would buy this one. The only fault is the price. Also, it is handy for a book to have a disk with it so you can have ready-made problem examples (very handy for the beginner). This one does not. Maybe the newer versions do, but the 2002 I have did not. I was recently looking to get a AutoCAD 2007 book since the new classes I am going to teach have updated to AutoCAD 2007.
I wanted the AutoCAD Instructor by Leach, but even I will not pay that price. I bought a lesser book for under $30.00.
In conclusion, this is the best book on AutoCAD I have ever used for the beginner, and a great book of reference for anyone. It just costs too much. Therefore, the 5 star rating is only a 4 because of cost.

An Imperfect God: George Washington, His Slaves, and the Creation of AmericaAn Imperfect God: George Washington, His Slaves, and the Creation of America
Rated 4 Stars"Informative and entertaining" 2005-10-28
What changed George Washington from a man willingly breaking up families by participating in the auction of slave children to a man who planned to emancipate his slaves while he was still president? Why would a man using slave labor decide later in life that if the Union split apart into North and South, he would "remove and be of the Northern."?
The book does not sugar coat Washington's involvement in slave holding, but tries to solve the question of what transformed Washington from a slave owner to a man claiming holding slaves was his "only unavoidable subject of regret." We find out why George Washington did not set his slaves free earlier in his life even through he set plans in motion several times to do so.
This is a very informative book, not only concerning Washington, but also the slavery question in general during the colonial period. Enjoyable to read for anyone interested in slavery or Washington.
There are several interesting discussions concerning the author's interviews with descendant's of slaves, along with a short study of how the subject of slavery has been portrayed in Colonial Williamsburg over the years.
The only fault I find with the book is the lengthy discussion of whether or not George Washington fathered a child with a slave woman. The conclusion is that he probably did not, but this part of the book becomes rather slow reading.
