Sleeper Cars and Flannel Uniforms: A Lifetime of Memories from Striking Out the Babe to Teeing It Up With the PresidentSleeper Cars and Flannel Uniforms: A Lifetime of Memories from Striking Out the Babe to Teeing It Up With the President
Rated 5 Stars"One of the Best" 2005-04-14
This is a great baseball book. Elden Auker is honest to a fault in his opinions and his rememberances are a treasure. You just don't expect a retired athlete to have such skill as an author. Auker is a gem. I wish he wrote more books. Elden Auker was not a hall of famer on the field but he was a hall of famer in life.

The Last Good Season: Brooklyn, the Dodgers, and Their Final Pennant Race TogetherThe Last Good Season: Brooklyn, the Dodgers, and Their Final Pennant Race Together
Rated 4 Stars" A Great History Lesson" 2005-04-14
This book goes beyond just a detailed view of the Dodgers' last great year in Brooklyn, it also provides a nice historical snapshot of the legendary borough and the changes that were taking place. This is a well researched book with a lot of great information on Dodger greats such as Reese, Snider, Newcombe, Robinson, etc. I definitely enjoyed it.

Rated 5 Stars"A Forgotten Piece of History" 2005-04-14
This book fills in many previously unanswered questions about a man who today would be considered disturbed, but during the 1911 baseball season he became a sensation in New York. It is an amazing tale of how a man with very limited skills acheived his delusional goal of pitching for the New York Giants. Victory Faust came to a sad end, but after reading this book you will never forget his brief career. A must read for the baseball researcher.

Myron Cope: Double Yoi!Myron Cope: Double Yoi!
Rated 5 Stars"A Touchdown!" 2005-04-14
To grow up in Pittsburgh during the 1970s a Steeler fan is to grow up loving Myron Cope and this book is a great example of why we love Myron. It is Cope at his most honest and revealing. He does not portray himself as something he is not, but as a flawed man who has worked hard and lived a great life. Of course there are the terrific tales of the Steelers' teams that Cope has covered from the broadcast booth and the characters that have populated them. Any Steelers fan will enjoy this book.

Veeck--As In Wreck : The Autobiography of Bill VeeckVeeck--As In Wreck : The Autobiography of Bill Veeck
Rated 4 Stars"A Baseball Classic" 2004-01-18
This book is considered a classic because of the great inside information and the "smack 'em in the face" comments from Bill Veeck, the one-time owner of the Cleveland Indians and St. Louis Browns and the two-time owner of the Chicago White Sox. Veeck pulles no punches in discussing his views on the powers in baseball, including his favorite punching bag, the New York Yankees. Veeck is also very entertaining in describing his relationships with some great characters of the game. I really enjoyed this book.

The Stone Cold TruthThe Stone Cold Truth
Rated 3 Stars"Light On Details, What?, Want More, What?" 2004-01-18
This was a pretty good read, but some more indepth tales from the road would have been nice. It falls short of Mick Foley's first book and Hogan's book, but tops the Rock's. It seemed as if Austin was really reaching to remember things to say about many of the matches he has had and the people he has run across during his long career. I guess it is probably hard to remember many of the details. That should be where the writer comes to the rescue, but the book is what it is...Because Stone Cold Said So.
