The book is about a group of people with paranormal abilities who all work for a secret "agency". In this story, the heroine has an affinity to metal (which is not very seriously exploited) and meets a shape shifter who has lost the ability to shape-shift along with some other issues which have been explained in detail by other reviewers. As a start to the series the book is good since it introduces a range of characters who will presumably be recurring. This slows down the story somewhat but dialogue is fairly rapid and holds attention.
The downside is the rather dramatic descriptive style when dealing with the hero. And did anyone find the oral sex between the heroine and the tiger (the hero's alter ego) disturbing? I'm all for steamy sex scenes but with an animal? It seemed rather perverted to me. Thankfully he turns back into a human at the point of consummation or it would have been just too weird.
I may try the next book but if the animal/human motif continues thats it for me.

The product is very useful as long as it works. Less than one year after I got it, it stopped charging. Its become very loose, and unless i keep it pushed in by hand (impractical while driving) it doesnt charge.

This is one of the best books I have read in recent weeks. The story is unusual and the characters well developed. In particular the personality of the lead characters is very appealing and increases the enjoyment of the book. I thought at first that the book was a fantasy but the strong vein of common sense running through it made it seem so much more realistic. I would highly recommend the book to all. Do read the other book by this author "The Sherwood Ring'. Has she written any more? Oh i do hope so.

Rated 2 Stars"a good concept badly written" 2001-10-03
The idea is so good, if only the author could have made it interesting. It is about a world inhabited by people with superpowers. The heroine has to take some tests in order to become a full blown superheroine, while trying not to fall in love with a mere mortal. It reminded me of the old Supergirl comics, except that the heroine was a very silly woman, the hero was uninspiring, and the only interesting person was the villainous cousin. The ending was a cop-out.... Now if this concept had been expanded upon by Nora Roberts or Jayne Ann Krentz, they'd have done a much better job.

This is the last time I am going to spend time and money on a book by Jennifer Crusie. The reason I have lasted so long is that I really enjoyed the books she wrote for Silhouette/Harlequin. However all three of her novels to date (crazy for you, tell me lies and this one) have proved to be totally non-gripping. I kept buying each new one in the hope that it would be better. Her characters are quirky, her situations are innovative, her plots are strange and wonderful - but her books are boring. This is partly because her characters are so very unlikeable, in spite of their many eccentricities. Her inevitable murder mystery builds up to a climax and then collapses like a pricked balloon. Its just difficult to get interested. I kept turning the page hoping something better would come up but it never did. So, Ms. Crusie, I'm sorry but I'm giving up on you. having said that, if you get the book for free, and have nothing else to read, its better than reading a dictionary.

I find Ellery Queen far too self involved and his solutions are so far fetched that no mortal being could attain them. Give me Agatha Christie any day. She plays fair with the reader. However, his characters are more interesting than Christie's.

Rated 3 Stars"Well structured but dull" 1999-11-04
The text is structured well for teaching purposes but the cases and
vignettes all relate to one ongoing example which gets quite
complex. Also, it means you have to take the chapters in the order
given and none other, otherwise the cases don't make much sense....
