![]() | "Generosity depicted in the reflections of others, Will Smith is phenomenal." | 2009-10-06 |
| Rich with nuance and supporting cast, nothing is predictable and a story told in retrospect and will deplete every Kleenex. A film you want to see again and again and spot the clues. The script devotes its majority to the less senior members such as Dawson and lends intermittent scenes for Barry Pepper to post powerful touches. It is hard to imagine a cast this perfect for a better story.

| A crime saga on the same level as Michael Mann's HEAT, superbly told and rich in scenery and authenticity.
A well told and gritty story without gratuitous violence, the transparency of 1970's New York City and the burgeoning Heroine culture is told through the perspective of a Police Chief and his two sons, the prodigal son and police officer played by Wahlberg is a strong character who concedes nothing to his bar manager brother played by Joaquin Phoenix. The cinematography does for the story the way Friedkens To Live & Die In LA told details unseen in American cinema, We Own The Night accomplishes the same with everything from a nail biting car chase shot in the rain to the finale which deserves viewing instead of spoiling. We own the night is a long movie which doesn't feel long, the sub plots and seemingly unrelated characters are given just enough play to make their significance pertinent, Dennis Hopper's performance is the courageous lead with human flaws and likeable characteristics that he uniquely delivers. The story is rich in detail and tempts the viewer to watch it repeatedly and focus on their attention on a dimensional level for the goal of digesting the film in layers.
![]() | Luigi Bormioli Esperienze 88-ounce Decanter
![]() | "Turn a $10 bottle into a $30 / The best decanter and the least expensive in my collection" | 2009-05-04 |
| The least appreciated part of enjoying reds is proper aeration. Even a $10 bottle can rival a $30 if the cheap bottle is allowed to air, the escalating price points between a Caymus and Kendall Jackson is almost justified when you consider the complexity of a Caymus is forgiving enough for the well heeled neophyte to serve it right after corking as it it was beer. But for the majority of us, an undeveloped palette can't fully appreciate the intricacies of a $120+, neither can most human ears fully appreciate a Mackintosh as well as an oscilloscope while both still taste and sound better than what we're accustomed to. So in the meantime, decant for a few minutes, by the fourth bottle you might be unable to differentiate from the Bordeaux or the shampoo. | ||

| Another masterpiece of music as great as the film, the Moby cuts from the film aren't here but can be had as part of his "I Like To Score Album" Most notably, the rifts of Moby's New Dawn Fades and the rapid piano of God Moving Over The Face Of The Water aren't on this version but can be found on Moby's own release of I Like To Score and that has numerous other songs that Melville has composed for the film industry. The songs are also downloadable from Amazon's MP3 store. I Like to Score | ||

![]() | "An experiment that somehow made it to film and now relegated to Cinemax at 5:00 on a Monday and this DVD." | 2008-12-13 |
| Watch it on Cinemax at 5:00 AM on a Monday morning or buy this DVD if you want to watch this strange digest of other film concepts. The cast seems like the A-List of 1999 who happened to be in between other studio projects and dropped in on this film to just hang out and do a movie. First year acting school students are given improvisational assignments to convince the audience an inert object like a coffee mug or the recalcitrant professors ball point pen are a meaningful object and have to interact and portray that object as a significant story element. Jude Law and JJLeigh seem to replicate a better acting school exercise as they carefully cultivate and protect the "Game Pods" which are organic looking cybernetic storage devices which are just latex movie props from John Carpenter and Alien movies the studio didn't want to throw away just yet. So, they built a film around the characters who use the GamePods as a portal to a Matrix like reality where they jump in and out of multiple sub realties in a life like game without a real or even stated goal just like EverQuest that encases other mini-realities like Virtuosity until the viewer becomes more annoyed than intrigued. Later, there are the revealing true realities like the end scene of Jacobs Ladder until you realize it is another double cross. You likely won't notice this because you'll either stop watching this film or your TV will be broken by whatever heavy object you've flung at it in an attempt to abruptly relieve yourself from this waste of time impersonating a movie. The special effects are nonexistent beyond blood squibs under the actors shirts to simulate gun shot and there is a semi-steamy love scene with Jude Law and JJL that includes some chest fondling but none of her trademark nudity that makes her films bearable sometimes. | ||

![]() | " WoW ! Perfect except for the MicroSD slot / Still better than the Verizon Storm for those who prefer a true keyboard." | 2008-11-01 |
| I "smuggled" this phone from Canada a few months back since Rogers and Rim have made it available for about six months now and I unlocked it then slipped the Cingular SIM card w/o any hassles. ( You have to use a "3G" SIM card from Cingular or AT&T to reliably use the data features / TMobile SIM's typically meet this requirement and have been for years ) Whether or not you're an existing Blackberry user, you'll be impressed by the Bold. ------------ Short Review ------------ + The best keyboard we've ever used on a Blackberry or any other smart phone from Motorola Q or Nokia E71 and anything from HTC. + A screen that compares to HDTV and the brightest Blackberry screen ever made. + Streaming video support is first class, you can watch youtube videos and other streaming content without hiccup when in a 3G area and the audio is as loud as many external iPod speakers. + Lighter than an 8800, easy to remove battery cover and pleather case back helps to prevent the phone from dropping to the floor. + Built in eOffice to edit PowerPoints, Word docs and Excel files, this is normally a $45 add on package that is built in. + Most of your existing accessories work with the Bold, including the leather case from the Curve, the 8800's and the chargers, headsets plus the same Mini-B USB cable to dongle power from your laptop. -- But there are a few imperfections: -- - The MicroSD slot is hard to remove memory cards from, the phones built in 1GB of RAM is enough to store MP3's but you can load 8GB Micro SDHC cards but ejection is difficult and you can risk damaging the card if you use tools. - The camera sucks as any other cell phone camera, the flash is inadequate for low light or indoor conditions and the camera is best for outdoor photos in bright light. The video camera is better than nothing and Rim includes Geotagging as a standard feature. - The battery drains faster than a fresh keg of Duff's at Moe's tavern, we're forced to recharge it every 16 hours or risk the phone disabling the radio before entering suspend mode. Plan on keeping a car charger and extra wall chargers in your attache case, office and your mistresses bedroom. ========================================================= Detailed Narrative Detailed Narrative Detailed Narrative ========================================================= The screen is just stunning, wider and taller than the Curve and even prettier than the 8800. Technically, the screen resolution is twice the resolution of the Curve and it is obvious when you see it and apparent when compared side by side. The speaker phone and stereo speakers are actually too loud and the speaker rivals Logitech MM22 Portable Speakers for iPod my external iPod speakers. The speaker phone (often cited as a Blackberry weakness) is fixed, we were in a conference room and experimented by using the BB 9000 speaker phone instead of our US Robotics tripod phone and the Bold worked just as well. The Operating System interface is familiar to existing BB users and photos attached inside emails can be viewed as appendments or inline items instead of being opened in the pic viewer. The OS and applications are blatantly faster than the Curve or 8800's, the improved CPU is especially apparent when using the spell checker. The gapless keyboard is real Blackberry perfection, myself and other BB complain about the 8800 keyboard and how easy it is to double hit letters or fat finger the adjacent keys. Curves and most other BB's have spaced keyboards and are excellent for fast typing and the 8800 and earlier Pearl gapless keyboards resulted in howls of pain from the user community. Rim improved on the Bold my elevating the pitch of the scalloped keys on the Bold, in short it means they've made it harder to fat finger and double hit keys and the keys are the best feeling Blackberry keystrokes I've used. The camera doesn't seem much better than the camera in the Curve, and the brighter screen drinks the battery while supporting up to 1600 x 1200 pixels. The flash and video functions are rudimentary and shouldn't be used for indoor or cozy light settings. The camera does include geotagging capabilities to imprint the location coordinates into the photo data, and it works fairly well indoors. Geostamping is an expensive feature found on newer Nikon cameras and very few cell phones. Earlier Pearl models with cameras didn't include Geotagging as standard but after market add ons and Rim's adoption of the functionality remains in the Bold 9000. The browser is excellent and has native support for Adobe Flash so you can watch YouTube videos when you have nothing else better to do, the pocket versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint are surprisingly decent for a mobile device and even better than the versions included with Windows Mobile / Pocket PC. NOTE: The MicroSD slot can be sticky and almost impossible to remove the card after the spring eject. Sometimes we have to use tweezers to remove the MicroSD and this is hazardous since the top portion of the SD card is where the flash data chip resides and can be destroyed if handled poorly. We are able to use 8GB cards from different manufacturers w/o any compatibility issues. The WiFi LAN speed is comparable to any other PC but it didn't seem faster than using AT&T's 3G over the air network. Be prepared to be interrupted by strangers and BB lovers who want to know more about it, I've been approached by more strangers than the tour guide at the Heffner mansion. | ||
| Fujitsu Scansnap S300 Color Mobile Scanner | ||
![]() | "This is the best and most reliable scanner we've ever used, and it is tiny !!!!" | 2008-09-26 |
| We have been testing replacement devices for traditional MFD devices since many of our field reps and franchisees don't really need printing or flat bed capabilities, and this Fuji is just absolutely superb. It takes paper of all thicknesses, it has taken wrinkled, folded and other less than perfect documents that would normally jam up an HP 7000 series ADF, this thing automatically adjusts faded text to make it readable before it OCR's it. The USB power option is compelling for us and the device scans about 2/3 normal speed when on USB power versus AC in our tests of B&W documents. We'd rather use this Fuji with an inexpensive HP DeskJet or Lexmark and a $49 CanoScan in case you just absolutely have to have flatbed scanning. We're sold on Fuji ! | ||

![]() | "A tremendous but greatly overpriced external FAT32 hard drive masquerading as an MP3 player." | 2008-09-16 |
| Since this is a self powered USB drive, it is a superb but expensive choice to store important data if it becomes abruptly disconnected from a MAC or PC while reading, writing or transferring data the chances of mechanical failure are significantly less than if you were performing the same operation with an IDE disk in an unpowered USB adapter. Of course the abrupt disconnection doesn't eliminate the possible logical corruption or data loss. The FAT32 file system is a drawback since it chokes on 4GB+ file sizes and larger files are more common since the FAT32 file system was invented by the "geniuses" at Microsoft (1996) when large media files and the applications capable of creating them were rare. Repartioning the FAT32 file system into a smaller section and trying to create an extended or new NTFS partition is a great way to waste a weekend and should only be attempted after you've backed up or verified a replica of your song files since they'll be lost. We wasted a weekend trying Partition Magic, GPart'd, Ghost disk utility trying to resize, or recreate the file system to accomodate an extra NTFS partition on this thing and we became highly skilled in restoring the OS repeatedly. There is an older posting from a MAC guru on how to accomplish this using pdisk and MAC OS version of dd but this process seemed to require a MAC since pdisk isn't easily obtainable from the web. ------------------------------ There are 800+ reviews at the time of this writing and my two cents are this is an annoying MP3 / M4P music player because the iTunes software rewrites the titles to your MP3 and even the native iTunes MP4 files to a random four letter .mp3 or .mp4 filename buried inside a \iPod_Control\Music\F?? directory name. This is annoying if you want to transfer your authorized or non-commercial MP3 files to another system from your iPod using traditional file explorer methods. iTunes itself has an "export" feature that is unreliable and will sporadically error and do so inconsistently to make it difficult to troubleshoot. OR, you can just waste 50% of your iPod disk space by using the normal iTunes song import method to load the iPod, then copy the files directly to the removable USB mounted file system in their native file name format. Since song data is really stored in ID3 tags, you'll keep your song data whether or not you just bite the bullet and copy over all those nasty renamed four letter mp3 files. GREAT TIP:: Copy the F?? directories to your Windows Media Player 10 or later version equipped PC, and use wmplayer.exe library rename features to rename the actual file names based on the ID3 tags and the RIP music settings and you can transfer / import your song files from your iPod w/o having to jack with iTunes. DISCLAIMER: I dislike Microsoft even more than Apple and for different reasons, just because Microsoft is junk doesn't make Apple quality. I don't advocate or discourage Zunes since I don't own one or have used one. If given a chance to do either with a Zune, I'm sure I can find plenty of reasons to dislike it. | ||

![]() | "I should've bought this one instead of the more expensive D80" | 2008-09-02 |
| There are too many great and detailed reviews of this camera for me to describe the technical advantages. We own a D80 and I just finished borrowing a D60 for two weeks and can't tell the difference. All Nikon SLR's have the same body style, rubberized exterior for grip and the same aperture and shutter speed controls thumbwheels in front and behind the shutter button. This camera is just as good as the $200 more expensive D80 and differs only in the smallest ways. The D60 and D80 have the same set of controls and LCD readout on the body inside the viewfinder, they have the same shutter speed and ISO range. They both have the same megapixel resolution and quality CCD sensor. It seems the only features the D80 have is the preview mode button which is a feature well used from the film days and would let you see the shot at the set aperture. This was helpful to keep you from wasting film but this isn't a concern in the age of digital and a 2GB SD card can hold over 2,000 exposures in basic exposure mode so waste away ! The D80 seems to have 3 exposure burst modes and a decent bracketing mode, but those are more often used features for NASCAR fans and lunging volleball spikes at the net. If you want a Nikon SLR and don't plan on photographing flying bullets, then take this D60 instead of a D80 and save some dollars. | ||

| This thing has a horizontal line on the screen which never goes away and Steve Jobs and Apple refuses to address. Mine and other people I know and read their posts experience a mysterious horizontal line of uniform width and height, just a solid horizontal bar of what may be dead pixels. It happens if the Nano is left on a charger for a while, or taken in a backpack during winter and other things the owners describe. The comments on the discussion forums at Apples web site are numerous but are unanswered by Apple support techs (worthless as they are anyway) and the Apple web site even has the audacity to archive the postings so you can't even respond to them if you had a solution !!! I'm sure the Steve Jobisciples will flame this review with unhelpful votes and flaming comments and you should as long as Apple is providing you with whatever narcotic to keep you spending on these substandard products. Microshaft isn't any better but at least they post fixes and address issues while Apple just ignores what is obviously a wide spread problem. | ||

| Shark Intelligent Electronic Iron - GI490 | ||
![]() | "Almost perfect except it doesn't work well with spray starch / buy an iron with a Teflon surface instead." | 2008-08-25 |
| It heats fast, it generates alot of steam we use ours weekly and have been for about a year but the chrome surface isn't really non stick and we have to stop ironing after a few garments for the iron to cool off so we can use a sponge or other kind of light scouring pad to clean off the scorched starch. Failure to clean the starch off and our garments start to turn brown since the iron begins to bake the dried starch from the heating plate into the fabric, this is most obvious with white shirts and we have to wash them again. Our search at Amazon for Shark irons with Teflon plates only returned Sharks with chrome / stainless steel heating surfaces. For just steam ironing this thing is top notch. | ||

![]() | "21 reasons TO SKIP THIS FILM !" | 2008-08-19 |
| 21. The soundtrack is a cacophony of bad music including rap, some folk and modern rock. Soundtrack diversity in film is great when it some thought and flow is considered such as the album to Pulp Fiction or Smokin Aces, but this is more like a random pick of blare. 20. Not enough Kevin Spacey, he's on the front of the poster and the DVD cover but he's hardly anywhere in the film, the few appearances he makes could've been shot in a single day. 19. Laurence Fishburne is so chubby he's unrecognizable he could audition for Chef I don't know if he pounded up for this film but this isn't the Morpheus you're used to. 18. Cute Kate Bosworth, but not enough of her and NO I DON'T MEAN NUDITY, I mean just not enough of her in the film. 17. Skip the main character Ashton Kutcher look alike and just get the real Ashton instead, this guy tries too hard to be Ashton and the only thing more annoying than Ashton Kutcher is an actor imitating Ashton Kutcher !!! 16. There isn't even a decent montage, "...we're gonna need a montage, even Rocky had a montage.." whelp, not this film. 15. Not enough technical details for the audience nerds, no emphasis on the real technique of the card counting or the surveillance of the casinos. 14. The characters have about as much depth as pee on a flat rock, there is more time spent developing the strippers than the main cast. 13. Not enough emphasis on Cole Williams (Laurence Fishburne), we can tell he's a struggling business and expert at spotting cheats but the audience thirsts for more backstory -does he have a prison record, ex cop, who knows? 12. The shots of Boston and Harvard are better than any of the film of Vegas, there was no effort to show anything about the luster of Las Vegas or even the airport. 11. You gotta have night-vision goggles to watch this film, the whole thing is shot in strip bars, dark dorms and fading escalators. 10. There isn't any morale lesson or struggle in this film despite the fact the poster lures the viewer into believing there is one. 9. The rise and fall of the character is pitiful when you watch the devoted nerd main character dump his loyal friends for the new popular card counting kids then comes crawling back when he's dumped by them and their unwinding scheme. Reasons #8 - 1, If you still need a reason to skip this film then take a deck of cards with you whether it is in from of the DVD or DVR and play a card game with this junk film as background noise ! | ||

| This 14 year old film can still inspire and remind you that your problems are trivial compared to the Lacy family. How a group of roving and impoverished mother of six with as much gusto and as little money as possible leaves L.A in post war 1950's in a beat up car and settles in a remote Idaho community. Frances Lacey (Kathy Bates) leads her "Lacey Clan" from a cannery job in L.A. with more hope than prospects but with the help of her oldest son Shayne (Edward Furlong) they overcome un-imaginable odds on an odyssey to find the write house when they see it. Stopping on a 1 1/2 lane road in remote Idaho, they stumble across a half constructed shack which inspires something only in Frances, she asks the neighbor across the street from the dilapidated dream to discover a Japanese florist who admits it is his land and confronts Frances with vigorous curiosity why she is interested. The rest of the film reflects the traditional rites of passage of adolescence for Shayne and his siblings but for a family of working poor who struggle to attend school and work traditional jobs or devote all of their time maintaining their home or installing the basic necessities you and I take for granted. A Home Of Our Own is a masterpiece because despite the fact it is set in post war 1950's Idaho, the lessons and struggles are relevant to any era past and present. You can't help but feel inspired by this story and it diminishes any challenges you may have at the moment or at least force you to rebalance your perspective. The lessons of indomitable optimism and sacrifice are the core characteristics of success and positively depicted in this film while balanced with a gritty realism. This isn't a film for the young kids, it contains profanity but isn't gratuitous and is well used to emphasize the most trying struggles. This movie is introduced as a true story but our extensive searches were unable to find any references and epilogues to the author or narrator of the story. If there is anyone who can verify if this is a true story and the name of the book it is based on, the Amazon community would owe you a meaningful amount of gratitude. Whether you watch it during the holidays or Cinemax at 4:00 AM Sunday morning, it is time well spent. | ||

| We fixed that insidious "Clear Paper Jam" error from the rear duplex loader / read for solution. This device consistently stretches the text on every duplexed scanned side. In other words, if you set the scanner to scan both sides of the page, the underside / 2nd part always stretches the text at the top of the 2nd page. (SEE SUBMITTED PHOTO) Sometimes, it has just been a single sentence, other times an entire paragraph. Contacting HP TechSupport is as painful as it is useless. Search their tech support and find out everything else about this thing except what you need to fix. Searched Google to no avail either. BUT - the scanning performance speed is superb for an MFD in this price range,,,, too bad it just skews the tops of the even numbered pages. ------ SOLVING THAT "PAPER JAM" ERROR ------ REFER TO THE USER SUBMITTED PHOTO FOR GRAPHICAL NOTES AT THE other HP Officejet Pro L7780 Color All-in-One Printer/Fax/Scanner/Copier (C8192A#ABA)Amazon 7780 Product Page here: Required Tools: (2) Medium sized paper clips Preferable Tools: (1) Pair of pliers with rubber grips (1) Edged tool such as wall paper knife, metal pick or toothpick to clean out gear teeth. After removing the duplexer, grip any of the four rubber rollers and attempt to rotate in either direction, if they don't move freely with little effort, then continue with these instructions. Take the first paper clip and contact the lower two brass rectangles, this fools the device into believing the duplexer is installed, keep the contacts bridged (don't remove your hand or the paper clip until Step 4.) THERE IS NO ELECTROCUTION RISK. 2. Press the "OK" button on the control panel to pretend the paper jam is cleared. 3. CAREFULLY OBSERVE THE pair of white gears on the left, if they seem to clutch, stall, skip or freeze then you have paper shards which are causing the jam. 4. Using a firmer grip or pliers, grip the furthest left rubber roller and rotate in either direction , the gears should rotate with your efforts and look for shards of paper in the gear teeth. 5. | I have medium sized client and the majority of their offices are 3-11 person offices all over North America and every office has at least one of these Office Jet 7000 (7300, 7500, 7600 or 7700) series MFD's, some have one for each field associate. The problems have been extensive and common, FAX's that fail to transmit, or received faxes that seem to slice the page longitudinally as if someone sliced the page long ways. Scanners that smear the back side when in duplex mode, device lockups requiring resets that are inconsistent and hard to duplicate. The WiFi issues are the least of our problems and the best way to enable WiFi is create a static IP, if you try to use DHCP it locks up more than 80% of the time with all kinds of access points from Linksys, NetGear, D-Link and even the Cisco Aironet. | Too many others did a better job listing ALL THE FLAWS of this piece of junk, let me contribute my part: Inconsistent quality, our company installs these in our field offices and everyone one has a unique set of frustrating idiosyncrasies. This thing is really ready for business use, it isn't really ready for amateur use either. ALWAYS fails when you need it the most ! When one of our reps is prepping for their overnight presentation and has to print copies before leaving for the airport..... it always jams, or has ink errors despite the fact the cartridges are new and less than a day old. NEVER, NEVER, GET A PAPER JAM, because even if you clear it, the HP still reports a Jam error, we had to ship one back for this reason and often have to flush all the factory settings to clear the jam ! Keep a flashlight near it, because the card slots are impossible to discern and it is easy to break an SD card being plugged into an XD Micro slot. | This book does a tremendous job of de-mystifying firearms and muzzle blast. It is interesting to read and should never be called "amusing" or fun to read since the author diligently researched the topic. The book describes how to use 12 ounce soda cans, plumbing tools such as clog busters and how to thread them to common weapons such as a Ruger Mk 22, Colt .45 and Norinco SKS including how to fit attachments to the barrels using simple plumbing fittings. The author apologizes immediately in the forward section with the disclaimer he never made any of the devices depicted in the book since doing so is a major crime and the man can't admit to that in writing !!! Regardless of whether or not it is illegal or what makes it illegal in different jurisdictions, this is an interesting book. | ||

| First things first, HP Tech Support USA PH# 1-800-474-6836 Second, this device can be flushed back to factory default settings: -REMOVE THE POWER CORD or flip the switch on A POWER STRIP OR UPS while holding # and 3 simultaneously. JUST CYCLING THE POWER BUTTON ON THE HP ISN'T SUFFICIENT TO RESET THE DEVICE. -LCD awakens, roving square on LCD then device powers off -Device powers back up... and you're back to factory default, all preferences and hopefully all errors are gone. You chat online with HP Tech Support and all they do is paste the same instruction from the user manual we've already read and searched online and they tell you reset the device and flush all the settings. Call HP Tech Support at 1-800-474-6836 and you have to scream at a voice recognition system that asks questions in English but only responds to your profanity in multiple languages before you're finally transferred to an operator that puts you hold for over 45 minutes in the middle of a business day just to get to the tech who is supposed to assist and they just read the the manual to you. Aside from the obvious solutions to poor tech support such as fixing the issues that created our experience, HP has to begin improving their response rates and ditch the IVR or just improve it since by the time they answer the call the end user is irate from having to practically spell their responses to the Interactive Voice Response system. | ||

We planed the walls down 1/32 of an inch and had less dust to deal with because of the vacuum bag, the bag has an external zipper and is easy to empty and doesn't even require removal from the planer ! The closets wreak of cedar again, even the rest of the house smells of cedar just like it was brand new wood and we were able to easily collect the shavings and keep them in a bucket for other aromatic purposes.
