When the Apple earbuds that came with my iPod Touch shorted out I went looking for some new ones and settled on a pair of Sennheiser CX 400 In-Ear Headphones and because they were so inexpensive, I guess I fooled myself and didn't notice they weren't as good. For months I thought I was getting good sound when I went running in the morning or when I wanted to blank out the world.

Then I bought a pair of Skull Candy INK'D Earbuds at a garage sale for a quarter. They were missing one of the earbud covers, but a friend had extras so I was in business and was I ever amazed at how much better these were than the Sennheiser guys.

So the budget earbuds were better than the very expensive ones. Now I knew I was missing something, no more fooling myself. I took a trip to my local stereo store and did some listening and at lot less money than the Sennhiesers I found the Sony MDR-EX51LP Fontopia In-The-Ear Headphones. These were plenty, plenty good, great even and I was in earbud heaven, great sound.

Then a year later, about a month ago, I got a chance to review the Ultimate Ears MetroFi 220 Noise Isolating Earphones, made by Logitech and was I ever blown out of the water. They are better than I ever could have imagined. Better than what I'd thought was the best of the best.

So below I've written a bit about each of these earbuds. I know I'm only an amateur listener, I've proved that by been fooled by the high price of the Sennheiser earbuds. But I think my opinion might help someone make a purchase. I tested all of these earbuds with Bob Dylan's song "Tangled Up in Blue" from his excellent Blood on the Tracks album.

Ultimate Ears MetroFi 220 Noise Isolating Earphones, by Logitech, ASTONISHING, simply astonishing. The guitar work is front and center, seems to be floating right below Dylan's voice, which is crisp as early morning frost. The bass bounces through your ears with a booming clarity like I've never heard in a headset. Logitech have done an amazing job with these, just amazing.

Sony MDR-EX51LP Fontopia In-The-Ear Headphones. BRILLIANT. Bright treble, booming base, midrange wonderful. Snares are sharp, guitar work comes right on through. At half the price of the Ultimate Ears above these are a good buy, as they are almost as good. Sony have done a brill job with these.

Skull Candy INK'D Earbuds. PRETTY GOOD and They're Pink. Plenty of treble with these guys, the bass on the low end seems just fine, but midrange seems a bit weak when played loud. Played with normal (not loud volume) these are wonderful headphone, but when played loud you can tell these are budget earbuds, still they are a good deal for the money and way, way better then the expensive Sennheiser guys below and they come in at a fraction of the price.

Sennheiser CX 400 In-Ear Headphones. LOUSY. Muddy Base, where's the treble, it's muddy too. These were the most expensive of the four. That excellent guitar work on this song is almost absent, it's eerie. Again, muddy bass, fuzzy too. Extremely disappointed with these and they cost so much money. Sennheiser is a good brand, but they for sure missed the boat with these. They don't even come close to the inexpensive Skull Candy guys.

There you have it, my little review of four different earbuds. I know there are a lot of others out there, but hopefully I've helped someone in making a choice as some of these cost a lot of money.

The Xbox 360 Halo Edition is perfect for any Halo loving game girl like me. Ain't nothing like it. Green and everything. Works great, better than any other Xbox on the plant I like to think, but maybe that's just me. This is way better than a normal black one. It's kinda special in a way. I really like it and I think you will to so I definitely recommend it. Very high quality definition and 20 gb hard drive, all nice to me.

This is my favorite little system ever. It's light weight and so entertaining. I can take it anywhere, on the plane, in school, wherever boredom arrives, I've got it covered. This is a great gift especially for teens and kids who have a lot of free time. It comes in a lot of different colors and is overall a pretty cool thing. The quality is great and the graphics are amazing. It's definitely worth the money.

I've always loved Apple for its great inventions like this. I can't believe how much music I can get on this iPod. I literally have more music than I ever thought possible on it and It's hardly half full, crazy stuff. I even have music videos, full length movies, and a grip of photos, but I still have so much space. I honestly love this thing, I carry it with me everywhere and I can't imagine life without it.

Rated 5 Stars"I've Always Loved Sketchbook Pro, Now I Love it More" 2009-06-10
I've always thought Sketchbook kicked you know what as far as other drawing programs were concerned. Even if you've never used a drawing program before, you'll be up and running with Sketchbook in minutes. I love Painter, but you've got to work at learning that program. Sketchbook is the most intuitive drawing program on the market, bar none.

Sketchbook's pencil tool is the closest thing to the real deal out there, you'd swear you're drawing with lead incased in wood and not a stylus on a tablet. This version has some good improvements, like the ability to change the Lagoon preferences, the elliptical tool, the symmetry tool (way cool and time saving), the new rulers, the ability to make your own brushes.

I know there are people out there who wanted more with this upgrade, but I'd be afraid if they added too much they'd clunk it up, slow it down and make it cost as much as Painter or Photoshop. I love this program.

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese DreamSmashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
Rated 5 Stars"Simply a Great Album" 2008-04-27
While the release of the band's E.P. Gish in 1991 got people talking about the Smashing Pumpkins and their contribution to the Singles soundtrack furthered the band's success. It was this release that got them on the music map. So when Siamese Dream came out the band had a strong paved road.

The grungy chords of the song "Cherub Rock" start the album off and is a typical rocker that's a mad putdown of the indie community who had given them flack for not paying their dues. It also features epic arena rocker songs like "Hummer" and "Rocket" as well as the hit (and one of my favorite songs) "Today", which all showcase singer Corgan's sweet vocals over the top of melodic atmospheric guitars and rhythmic steady drums. "Mayonnaise" has a great guitar solo starting off the track and "Spaceboy" has lyrics about Corgan's handicapped brother Jesse. If you love Velvet Underground, My Bloody Valentine and Nirvana than you'll love "Siamese Dream" from the Smashing Pumpkins.

Weezer - WeezerWeezer - Weezer
Rated 5 Stars"Poppy & Universal with Dorky Charm" 2008-04-27
Weezer released this debut album (later referred to as the Blue Album) and indie/alternative rock fans fell in love. The songs were ever-so catchy, but had hooky riffs and a simplicity, along with goofy lyrics molded into each song, making them clever and moving. Lyrics like -- I want a girl who will laugh for no one else, when I'm away she puts her makeup on the shelf, when I'm away she never leaves the house -- show how geeky love inspired singer River Cuomo feels in his insecure self-doubted way through-out the whole album.

The dorky charm is what makes this album great. It's poppy and universal, but in it's own un-hip cool alternative way. They became one of the biggest alternative bands of the '90's. The song "Buddy Holly" is not only catchy but interesting and entertaining. You can't help but sing along to the chorus. The video even makes a rendition of a Happy Days set-black & white and forever geeky.

Temple of the Dog - Temple of the DogTemple of the Dog - Temple of the Dog
Rated 5 Stars"An Extremely Intense Album" 2008-04-27
Temple of the Dog was a one-off project put together with members of Soundgarden (Chris Cornell, Matt Cameron) and a group of of musicians who soon became known as Pearl Jam (Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, Mike McCready and singer Eddie Vedder). Singer Chris Cornell wrote much of the lyrics and music, making him a dominant force on this release.

The album and this project came about because it was inspired by friend/ex-Mother Love Bone singer Andrew Wood (who was a former friend/roommate and band mate to these musicians, but died of an overdose). So the album contains very insightful, powerful and emotional ballads like "Say Hello 2 Heaven" and "Hunger Strike", which show the mourning over their friend. The sizzling guitar solos and tracks along with Cornell's powerful slightly off-pitched vocals make this an extremely intense album.

The Strokes - Room on FireThe Strokes - Room on Fire
Rated 5 Stars"Great Rock" 2008-04-27
When this album came out it got great critical reviews, but they ended up hurting it in the long run because of the over hype. Some critics claimed the band to be "the saviors of rock n' roll" in the fury of their first release of Is This It. While both of their releases contain some great rock n roll tunes that are incredibly catchy and memorable, there just isn't anything original. But then again it's kinda hard to come up with something ground breaking and original when just about everything has already been done.

Singer Julian Casablancas sings with a straightforward style a-la Lou Reed, yet lets it rip from time to time, kinda breaking away from his style on the first album. Oddly enough the guitars at times sound like synthesizers, making it a slight different from than their first album into a more new wave '80's vibe. The album is only a mere 33 minutes but it it sorta nice because it's not weighed down by boring "filler" tracks/songs.

Soundgarden - SuperunknownSoundgarden - Superunknown
Rated 5 Stars"Superunknown is a Great Rock Album" 2008-04-27
Although they didn't achieve the success of their friends' Alice In Chains, Nirvana and Pearl Jam the music on this album is more impressive than ever. The songs display the explosive low-tuned guitar notes of Kim Thayil along with bassist Ben Shepard and Drummer Matt Cameron, proving to be one of rocks most potent rhythm sections. And of course you have the ultimate Soundgarden signature of singer Chris Cornell's wailing, powerful vocals.

The album shows it's maturity with songs like "Kickstand", "Like Suicide" and "Mailman". The best part of album are the singles "Spoonman" (which features a slight cheesy but interesting megaphone spoken word type vocals) and "Black Hole Sun" a dark psychedelic moody power ballad that broke Soundgarden into the Top 40. This is a great rock album.

Rated 5 Stars"This is a Great Album" 2008-04-27
After a mere decade and the Smashing Pumpkins calling it quits in 2001, Singer Billy Corgan remerges with a great new band and release of the album "Mary Star of the Sea". The other members that he got together with also have had their own successes, like guitarist David Pajo (ex-Slint, Tortoise), guitarist/vocalist Matt Sweeney (Chavez) and bassist/vocalist Paz Lenchantin ( A Perfect Circle). It features the fourteen minute epic (in the typical Smashing Pumpkins vein) titled "Jesus,I/Mary Star Of The Sea" a somewhat overblown epic.

With their three guitar line-up it's not surprising that the songs on Mary Star of the Sea have a Big guitar sound, but unlike Corgan's previous releases he sounds more a peace with himself. Songs like "Honesty", "Settle Down", "El Sol" get better and better the more you listen to them. The song "Come With Me" ends the album in an anti-climatic manner but the overall vibe of the album is that it is a great album.

Rated 5 Stars"A Breath of Fresh Air" 2008-04-22
The Ramones -- just like the Sex Pistols and the Clash -- have made a huge impact on the punk rock scene, being a major influence on tons of bands since they began. They stripped typical rock n roll to the bare basics, focusing on three power chords and powerful guitar notes with catchy poppy vocals. Joey Ramone made a name for himself with his simple, yet mindlessly funny vocals about beating on brats with baseball bats, sniffing glue and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. They were nothing the rock music world had seen in 1976.

Although being a punk rock band these New York outcasts were influenced by all types of music, not just punk. They took the influences of surf music, '60's girl groups and pop, blended it together, speeding it up, creating something new and refreshing. They start with a simple "hey ho, let's go" chant and blast right on through the album. They were a breath of fresh air and added a new life to the music scene.

This album was another great release in the same style as Murmur. R.E.M. at this point had established themselves in the music circuit with their jangly Rickenbacher guitars along with singer Michael Stipes' sweet, yet slightly muffled vocals. Not to forget the other members who make R.E.M.-Billy Berry with his hard hitting sturdy drumming amd the melodic bass of Mike Mills.

This release is a bit tighter and stronger than their first as heard on "Harbercoat" and "7 Chinese Bros.", because of it's overall meatier rhythm. Then it has "So. Central Rain", a mournful moody ballad about a love lost. which we all have experienced. The song "Pretty Persuasion" delivers in a big, hard hitting way as a perfect rock song. Overall the band still doesn't disappoint, with each song on this album proving their great chemistry and excellent songwriting abilities.

Rated 5 Stars"Love 'em or Hate 'em. I Love 'em." 2008-04-22
With the release of this album Soundgarden established their place on the music world map. Sure Chris Cornell's screeching wails -- which are a Soundgarden trademark -- haven't changed, but on this album the band's growth was apparent. The production and the songs are much more polished and tight, unlike on their previous releases Louder than Love or Screaming Life" & "Fopp.

The Black Sabbath influence is still well heard here but the Soundgarden members step up the pace a bit with multi-colored metal melodies in the songs. Songs like "Outshined" and "Rusty Cage" are highlights on the album with their iron hitting guitar riffs by Kim Thayil and catchy choruses that mend perfectly together. Drummer Matt Cameron is a powerful contribution to the band as well as new addition bassist Ben Shepard. "Jesus Christ Pose" is a highlight on the album with it's intense fierce vocals and lyrics over razor sharp guitars.

This album would appeal to any hard rock fan but Singer Chris Cornell does have that voice that you either love or hate (high-pitched and screeching). I just fell in love with him and his music.

Rem - MurmurRem - Murmur
Rated 5 Stars"Good Chemistry, Catchy Songs, Great Music" 2008-04-22
Murmur was the R.E.M.'s first full-length debut (Chronic Town was their first -- an EP, after many years of performing in small clubs) and the timing was perfect. This Athens, Georgia band was what music fans needed as far as something different in the pop/music culture was concerned.

Michael Stipe's vocals are superb. He also writes most of the lyrics, though Peter Buck does contribute a lot and their chemistry together is one that doesn't come around too often. Their music was refreshing because it dangled somewhere between pop rock/mainstream music and the underground alternative rock, which later paved the way for many up and coming underground alternative rock bands.

They had amazing song writing skills, which can be heard on songs like "Pilgrimage" with bassist Mike Mills' interesting atmospheric beats and "Laughing" and "Talk About Passion", because they display Michael Stipes' sweet and appealing vocals. He has a voice you can't hate even though at times it can be a little mumbled. They soon became a favorite of the college radio circuit with this release. This album is definitely recommended because of the band's chemistry and ability to write emotional, catch,y yet on the "alternative" side, perfect rock gems.

Rated 5 Stars"I Went Looking for New Music and Found Soundgarden" 2008-04-22
While just graduating from high school I was looking for something different musically and Soundgarden was what I found and they turned me on to tons of other bands. The Seattle big "grunge" movement was happening with bands like Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, and the Meat Puppets, changing the course of music for good, away from the typical and boring metal bands.

This album is in the same vein as their previous release of two E.P.'s combined: Screaming Life" & "Fopp. It had a raw, garage sound that I loved. They got compared to the great Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, which I can hear the influence of, but Soundgarden make a more modern version adding their own "grunge" style.

My favorite songs on this album are "Hands All Over", "Loud Love" and "Ugly Truth" which all display Chris Cornell's screeching and intense vocals over Kim Thayil's experimental, yet bold guitar riffs. I also liked the funny, yet in a more punk-ish style of "Full On Kevin's Mom" showing humor and irony.

I am a coffee drinker of the first order. I used to drink a couple pots a day, but now I've cut way, way back, so now that I'm not into quantity, I'm into quality. I really enjoy, really savior a good cuppa joe. I've given up my Mr. Coffee and now have a Keurig Home Brewing System and I make my coffee a cup at a time and I really love it. It only takes a minute to make a cup and each cup is different, depending on my mood.

I've been drinking K-cup coffee for a couple years now and have more of these little cups in my house than you can shake a stick at. For awhile I used a Chrome Carosel, made by Keurig, but I had to keep filling it and also it was kind of clumsy for me. Besides, my coffee affliction is way to huge to be held down to a little spinning coffee merry-go-round.

For the first few months my coffee problem went spinning out of control. I had boxes and boxes of coffee in my pantry, refrigerator, cupboards, garage, even in the trunk of my car, but now I've sort of got my gourmet coffee disorder in hand and down to twenty-eight flavors.

For Breakfast I have my favorite seven and they are:

Timothy's World Coffee, Extra Bold Fair Trade Nicaraguan
Timothy's World Coffee, Midnight Magic, Bold
Timothy's World Coffee, Kona Blend
Tully's French Roast Coffee
Coffee People Bold Black Tiger Dark Roast
Timothy's World Coffee, Morning Blend
Coffee People Coffee, Wake Up Call Bold

For Lunch I have my favorite seven and they are:

Gloria Jean's Coffees Hazelnut Coffee
Emeril's Big Easy Bold
Gloria Jean's Coffees Black Gold Extra Bold
Timothy's World Coffee, Private Blend
Timothy's World Coffee, Extra Bold Parisian Nights
Timothy's World Coffee, Colombian La Vereda
Gloria Jean's Coffees GJ Special Blend

And for dinner, yes I drink coffee in the evening as well, but that's not so bad, considering I don't drink, don't smoke, don't eat sweets and eat very little meat. Sometimes I'll eat meat, but not often, so a cup of coffee with dinner doesn't seem so bad, considering. If it kept me up at night, well then that would be different, but it doesn't. Anyway for dinner I'll drink one of these seven:

Tully's Full City Roast Coffee
Gloria Jean's Coffee, Mudslide
Timothy's World Coffee, Italian Blend
Green Mountain Coffee Dark Magic Extra Bold
Green Mountain Coffee Nantucket Blend
Timothy's World Coffee, San Lorenzo Dark
Gloria Jean's Coffee, Classic Reserve

And then there is my absolute favorite, number twenty-two and that is Extra Bold Rainforest Espresso, a Timothy's World Coffee.

I keep my k-cups in three large assorted tupperware tubs, marked in Sharpie, of course, "Breakfast", "Lunch" and "Dinner". So when I reach into the breakfast tub for example, I never know which of the seven flavors I'm going to wind up with.

I don't drink coffee during my meal, but afterwards, instead of desert. It's a quiet time for me. I think and reflect over my coffee as I delight in each and every sip.

I know for some, having twenty-two different flavors of coffee in my kitchen might seem a bit much, maybe even a bit quirky, well everyone's gotta have their quirks, besides, I've cut way down.

Now, about that twenty-second flavor. When I absolutely have to have an extra cup during that quiet, coffee drinking them, then that's the flavor I go for. How often does that happen, when one cup isn't enough? Only about once a day. Still, from two pots a java a day, down to four cups, is a pretty good thing, I'm not as wired as I used to be, but let's face it, I'm still running on caffeine. That's not so bad though, better a coffee crutch than something else.

In my opinion these are the twenty-two best cups of joy in the whole wide world. At least the best twenty-two flavors I've come across in the hundreds I've tried. But please don't take my word as gospel, everybody's different. You have to dive right right in, take a chance, try several flavors till you find the one or the twenty-two that you like best.
