Rated 2 Stars"Every DVD coding error you can make and still make it run" 2009-09-28
The first episode was in color. The next episodes were in black and white. The sound went up and down throughout each episode. I think it was episode 21 or 22 which was repeated and the ensuing episode wasn't on the disc. I wrote the BBC to ask about getting a replacement disc with the missing episode and never got a response.

Whoever did the quality control for this DVD set should be required to give us all refunds or at the very least prevented from ever producing DVDs again.

I bought this series as a gift and it made it look like I bought some slightly irregular box set on clearance, instead of getting a quality set like I assumed I was gifting, which was highly embarassing. So if you're buying it for someone else, keep it in mind that they're going to be disappointed.

You'll still get to see most of the episodes, but expect that you'll be adjusting the volume throughout your viewing and don't count on watching the episodes in color, as they originally aired. At least it's a period piece, so you can tell yourself that's why it's in black and white.

If I could give no stars, I would. I'm putting this review on each of Louise Hay's titles to warn people who fall into believing that this is a caring, compassionate person. I met her recently at an event and was about to compliment her on one of the books her company publishes that Dr. Dyer wrote for children. Louise Hay was so incredibly rude to me before I even got to open my mouth that I was shocked. The woman seemed to be only about capitalism, power and ego and, though I had been a previous customer of her publishing company, I will NEVER purchase anything by them again nor will I recommend them. I will not give money to someone so ill-behaved, let alone someone who's telling others to be nice when they haven't learned that lesson themselves. Louise Hay, I hope someone on your team shares this with you. You should be ashamed of yourself for being so nasty!

By contrast, I have dealt with the people at Sound's True a zillion times and all of them are as nice as can be and behave in accordance with their products. I spoke with their people at the same event (and others before it) and they were all lovely.

And, no, I do not work for or am in any way compensated by Sound's True. I simply people should know the truth about who practices what they preach and who doesn't. In my opinion, Hay's behavior was one step down from Cruella De Ville. If you're shocked reading that, imagine how shocked I was experiencing it from her.

Rated 5 Stars"Surprisingly gorgeous and high quality" 2006-11-19
I got this DVD on a sale where it was marked down to about $5.00. I didn't expect it to be high quality. I was pleasantly surprised. I've watched wildlife films and read wildlife pubs for nearly 40 years and rarely have I seen such beautiful cinematography. One reviewer panned this film and it was an unwarranted critique in my view. There was plenty of information, eye-popping photography, and no preachy tone. If I'd have paid $30, I would have felt it was well-spent.

Whenever I hear someone complain about a nature/wildlife film being too preachy, it makes me wonder if they're not fans of nature to begin with or if they're hunters. One cannot praise or preach enough about the beauty of nature and the need to preserve it. This film merely informs and captures the majestic beauty of a species and its territory.

Rated 1 Stars"Appealing for the amoral-doesn't deserve even one star" 2002-02-26
I purchased this book, assuming I would find it uplifting and enlightening. What a mistake that was! I actually took it back to the store because I refused to let the author have one cent of my money.

Dreamer's writing would appeal to anyone looking for rationalization of bad behavior. When I read the chapter with regard to commitment, I could not believe that she actually condoned a husband dumping his wife after her stroke.

What was worse was that that Dreamer seemed to find a correlation between her own abusive first marriage and this man's situation in his second marriage. Since when does falling ill constitute constitute the same reason to dissolve a marriage as abuse? What kind of person comes with that? Perhaps her first husband hit her on the head and damaged her sense of decency.

When the only person with sense and a conscience mentioned in the book noted that he felt the man dumping his wife due to her illness (and his also having found another woman) was wrong, Dreamer rationalizes the behavior by putting the blame on the man criticizing the act, noting that she wondered how he'd "betrayed his own soul in his life" for worry of what others would think. Nice cop out.

Well, Oriah (and what were you smoking when you made your name up?), here's what I think: You have found a way to make money by appealing to those who are seeking excuses for their amoral behavior. Ironically, these are usually the people with the most money, so one would assume you'll be well set for life. An author you a not. More like a snake oil saleswoman for snakes.
