Twilight (The Twilight Saga, Book 1)Twilight (The Twilight Saga, Book 1)
Rated 1 Stars"Twilight falls flat" 2009-10-11
Twilight is bad. I mean, really bad. A true teen read to say the least. I mean, there are teen books I enjoy because they manage to blur the line well enough that I don't feel like I'm too old to be reading it. This is not the case with Twilight. It is so high school at times that it made me crazy. Those kids, Edward and Bella, literally hung out for 2 days and were professing their undying love for one another! Bella could not go a full night without spazzing about the separation. I mean, yes, in high school some kids do take their infatuations a bit far... but really??? It was disgusting! I would have been able to tolerate the book, had it not been for how overdone the emotions of the characters were. And only the main ones too... everyone else in the book seems normal. And don't try the, "It's an unexplained attraction, they're unique" bit on me. They're wack, end of discussion.

I had seen the movie. I knew what I was in for. Thankfully, the movie didn't overdo the emotional ish like the book did. I was going into this willing to overlook the violations to the norm (Seriously- vampires sparkle in the sun, not burst into flames?!) And I'm all for the vamp/non-vamp thing. I have seen every episode of Buffy and Angel. I love Buffy with Angel and Spike. Hated the other normal guys! But this book was so bad that even overlooking those details didn't save it! Hell, even Sookie has relationships with Bill and Eric in the Southern Vampire Mysteries. Those books were AMAZING. I thought they were good before, but after reading Twilight, I hold a new appreciation for them!

I will admit, I'm determined to see it through to the end now. If not for the love of the series, at least because I'm determined it has to get better. Steven King was right, this woman cannot write. At all. At least they're a fast read. I made it halfway through book 2, New Moon, in all of a few hours.

Dead and Gone (Sookie Stackhouse, Book 9)Dead and Gone (Sookie Stackhouse, Book 9)
Rated 4 Stars"Dead and Gone is a winner!" 2009-10-11
This book was awesome, and totally action packed. Charlaine Harris does a great job in all of her books of having something always going on, and keeping the readers on their toes. She's one of the few authors who manages to surprise me! I definitely enjoyed the book.

I will say I was surprised by the number of deaths in this book. I mean, there's a lot in every book, but typically obscure characters, and not ones who are very close to Sookie (the main character). Charlaine Harris makes her readers crazy by leaving a million and one loose ends at the end of her books. Most from the previous book are answered in the next one, so I'm sure all will be answered in book 10... however it'll be a while until it comes out. I hate waiting! I have a million and one unanswered questions, and that seems to be the general vibe from all the fans I've talked with in discussion boards.

I do recommend these books though... there's a lot of mystery in them, and they're fun in the sense that they deviate from the norm (Well, my norm at least). The series is all about vampires, wereanimals, witches, etc. Very interesting stuff. If you haven't read this series, and happen to go to the library or bookstore, pick up the first book, Dead Until Dark (It's only like, $6 in paperback). If you're anything like me, you'll be unable to put it down and be back looking for book 2 with a day or two!

Rated 5 Stars"They just keep getting better!" 2009-10-11
This book actually made me cry at parts! Fantastic writing. Each book in the Inheritance Cycle is better than the last! When I read Chris Paolini's books, I can't put them down! The depth of detail and his writing style provide a vivid mental image. I can read his books and it's like a watching a movie in my head. I love Eragon, and I get choked up every time Brom is mentioned. I hope he finishes that fourth book soon. It's as bad as it used to be to wait for the next Harry Potter book. And when will they make the next movie?!?

North & SouthNorth & South
Rated 5 Stars"Another great romance from BBC!" 2009-10-11
If you're a fan of Pride and Prejudice, I highly recommend you check out North & South!!! Netflix kept recommending it to me because of my tendencies towards BBC romances. I've always been a die hard Jane Austen fan.

Originally I was a bit confused, because I'm familiar with North and South, the American Civil War miniseries. I couldn't figure out why Netflix kept saying I should try North & South because of my previous interest in movies like Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice. I never read the synopsis for movies, because I hate ruining the plot. I added it to my watch instantly queue and gave it a go.

Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised! North & South consists of 4 "episodes" which tell the tale of Margaret Hale (played by Daniela Denby-Ashe) and John Thornton (played by the spectacular and oh-so-gorgeous Richard Armitage). After being uprooted from her home, Margaret and her family settle down up north in Milton, an industrial city known for its production of cotton. Margaret meets Mr. Thornton, a tough cotton mill owner, under less that desirable circumstances and takes an immediate dislike to the man.

The story from there follows Margaret's efforts to feel at home in a foreign and unhappy place. She misses her life in the south, her home which she often called 'paradise' and London, where she spent so much time with her beloved cousin and friends. You watch as she gains new friends, learns about herself and the realities of life, and undergoes great joys and tragedies.

If you love romantic movies and BBC, you have to check out North & South! Not to sound obsessive, but I bought the movie the same day I saw it on Netflix watch instantly, and have watched it at least a hundred times since! I know the movie by heart, and even made an epic search of tracking down the soundtrack (which was never released). I can watch it again and again! I've even bought the book the movie is based on, which I plan to read very soon!!!

Eragon (Inheritance, Book 1)Eragon (Inheritance, Book 1)
Rated 5 Stars"Escape to a world of magic and dragons!" 2009-10-11
This book didn't disappoint! I saw the movie, and had been wanting to read the book for quite some time. I'm glad I finally found the time to read it, because it's probably one of the best books I've read in a very long time. It does a great job of filling that gap where Harry Potter used to sit :o) I love the characters, and the creativity of the story. It's got all of the classic elements: farm boy turned hero, romance, adventure, villains, and sidekicks... Chris Paolini is an imaginative writer with impressive skills, considering he started writing this when he was 15. I will definitely read the rest of the series.
